Make Sure You’re Completely Covered on the Water Spending time on the water is a major part of summer fun for many families in our area. Not all boat owners stop to consider the risk they are taking on when operating a boat or other recreational watercraft, such as a jet ski.

What type of insurance do you need? Your homeowner’s policy may provide some coverage, but for only the smallest watercraft, such as a canoe, small sailboat or a motorboat with less than 25 mph horsepower.

Larger boats and watercraft including jet skis require a recreational marine insurance policy. Even if you have a vessel of minimal value, liability coverage should be considered. Policies will vary depending on your vessel and risk. Losses can happen from many unforeseen circumstances. Storms, fire, grounding, theft, vandalism and non-emergency towing are all factors to consider when shopping for a marine insurance policy.

Amanda, an administrative assistant, and Rosie, an account manager, spent six hours each

“Our busiest time of year is definitely hunting season,” says Steph. “We often get to the shop at 5 a.m. and don’t get out of there until 10 p.m.”

D&R also takes boat orders for commercial fishermen on their way to Alaska and caters local business and social events. Regular customers appreciate the shop’s popular rib-eye, T-bone and in-house ground hamburger. The shop recently

added venison hamburger and local grass-fed organic beef to its line-up.

“We have a very cool community,” Steph says of Toledo and the surrounding area. “People are very supportive of local businesses here.” D&R gives back to the community in many ways, including supporting local schools and youth sports.

Steph says their insurance agent, Kimberly Scott, is a big reason for the couple’s loyalty to PayneWest. “Kimberly is always on top of everything,” Steph comments. “And she gets back to me immediately whenever I have a question.”

“We dressed for the weather, but we still were completely soaked to the bone by the time we were done,” recalls Amanda. She says that she and Rosie were on clean-up duty for a newly-built duplex that was ready for electrical installation.

“We had to pick up all the debris, including bricks and drywall and sweep everything else,” she says. “It definitely was a lot of in and out, and you can’t believe how heavy wet drywall is.”

Amanda says she enjoyed working with the other volunteers, which included the two new
