Activity 3:

Classroom/Home Olympics!

To get you in the mood for fun and fast rides, read the instructions then watch the video:

Read through the slides below before completing the Estimated Running Costs sheet (at end of

slides).

Mild Spicy Hot

With support

• Look at your park plan and input details on

Estimated Running Costs sheet

• Using column addition and subtraction, calculate overall running costs.

• As Mild +

• What is your biggest expense?

• What type of rides would you need to install to lower the running costs?

As Spicy +

• Calculate how much of your original business loan will be needed for first two weeks of operation

• How could you reduce running costs without reducing the integrity of the park?

• Calculate potential revenue from predicted visitors

• Subtract running costs

As Mild +

As Spicy + (calculate x 2 ticket prices)

• Include costings for possible family ticket price

Activity 5: (After English)

Annual Profit: Your theme park has now been open for 12 whole months! Wow! That time just flew

by! Now it is time to work out your annual profit, see how effective your marketing was and

compare your profits with other theme parks in the class (or with friends!).

Read through the slides, while keeping the Annual Profit activity sheet and your proposed figures for

the park to hand. REMEMBER RUNNING COSTS!!!

Complete the sheet for each month’s profit before totalling for your total profit.

Finally, share your profit with the class/friends/family. How could you have improved your business?

Could you have advertised differently to make an impact of profit? Did you target your customers

accurately?

You will be using percentages today so if you have forgotten, or are not sure, have a watch of the

video:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/znjqtfr/articles/zcfyw6f

Remember to find 1% divide by 100

To find 10% divide by 10

To find 50% divide by 2 (to find half)

What might you do to find 23%
