Year 5 Due to school closure we have provided set work for your children to access during this time. We will upload a new menu
of work every Friday between 4 and 5pm. We will set daily literacy and maths tasks. We will also provide a Topic sheet
with a range of selected activities for you to choose from.
Literacy Maths
Monday Look at the paintings below. The paintings
depict the story of St. George and the Dragon.
This paintings will be the focus of your
Literacy this week. St. George’s day was on Thursday last week. https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/paolo-uccello-saint-george-and-the-dragon https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/domenichino-saint-george-killing-the-dragon Task: Read the information. Can you relay the information to someone at home?
Look at the paintings. Make a soundscape using
items you have around your home or your voice. How can you build suspense? Think
about the sound of the horse hooves, the dragons footsteps. Maybe you can hear the
dragon breathing, or the princess crying? Record this on an ipad or phone and play it
back. Imagine the scene is alive. Does your
soundscape match?

Tuesday Read the poem about the painting. Work on
how you could perform the poem. What could you use to emphasise your performance? Think
about how you can change your voice to tell the story. Could you add instruments or noises? Task: You are going to write three poems.
One about the princess One about St.George
One about the dragon Each poem needs to be a Kennings poem.
See the information below about how to write a Kennings poem. There are lots of examples of
Kennings poems on google. Kennings poems are descriptive so be creative
and think carefully about the characters and how they are presented in the painting.
Type your favourite one up as a comment under the blog post your teacher has written for this task. Remember capital letters!
Method maths Play a game of battleships with someone in your house – your
brother/sister/mum/dad. Instructions and Play sheet are included below. Co-ordinates worksheet – included below,
Wednesday Create a story map for the story of St.George
and the Dragon. Use the box plan format below to help you with the order of events in the story.
Once you have finished your story map, make a box plan using the template below. You can
print it or copy it out. Feel free to change the sections if you think it would suit you more.
Remember a box plan is a guide. You do not
need to write out the whole story.
It should be used as a plan so when you start writing you have a good idea of what you are
going to write in each section.
