It is a challenge – make sure you
have a piece of paper and pencil
ready to calculate
your answers using column
method.
Reasoning focus:
This week, we are going to move
on to decimals, looking at numbers to one decimal place. This means
that our decimals will move only into the tenths column in our place
value chart. Decimals are similar to fractions as they represent a
part of 1 whole. For example, think back to our Dienes. If we
consider a 10 rod to be the whole, then each square with in it
becomes a part. The whole as a fraction would be 10/10 because there are 10 cubes in total. One
square would be 1/10.
Have a go at changing the
numbers below into fractions out of 10.
6= 4= 2= 5= 7=
Geography Focus:
Create a PowerPoint about
Norway. You could either include facts about their
culture, landscape, tourism, climate etc or you could base
it on their advances in the world of renewable energy,
e.g. wind turbines, solar panels, hydropower and
biomass. Your PowerPoint should be at
least 6 slides long. Include lots of pictures as well as facts. You could present it to
a family member or upload a video of your presentation to
DB primary (just remember to keep the camera on your
powerpoint rather than your face). If you are posting on
db primary please let your teacher know that you have
done so.

bm8scw Literacy Task:
Watch SPTV for Daily Literacy A suffix is a letter or group of letters
that goes on the end of a word and changes the word's meaning.
Watch this clip to learn more about the suffixes -ing and -ed.
Watch the short Bitesize Clip: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zvqn2v4
Some suffixes have specific uses. Adding -ing can change a noun
into a verb.
For example: garden to gardening.
While adding -ed can put a verb into the past tense.
For example: jump to jumped. Different suffixes follow different
spelling rules.
Times
Table Rock
Stars –10 minutes practise. Log on to Rock Stars and
practise your times tables for
10 minutes. Each Monday a Rock

12pm. It will finish at 12pm on
Friday! Which class will be the
Rockstars winners? Reward stickers
will be posted on DB Primary for
everyone that participates! Good
luck!
Now, when we convert these into
decimals, we divide by the whole. Therefore, our 6 for example
would be divided by the whole amount, which is 10. 6 ÷ 10 = 0.6. You can use place value
charts to help you divide by 10. Have a go at converting the rest
of your fractions into decimals. Can you remember what happens
when a decimal ends in 0?
You could even add a short
quiz at the end to test your friends and family!
Watch this next clip to learn about the
spelling rules to follow when using the suffixes -er, -ing, -est, -ed and –y.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z
vqn2v4 There are four spelling rules to
remember when adding -er, -ing, -est, -ed and -y.
Top tip! To understand spelling rules, you
need to know the difference between vowels and
consonants. Vowels are the letters a, e, i, o and u. Consonants are all the
other letters. You also need to know what root
words are. Root words are the basic words that are used to
form other words. They haven't had prefixes or suffixes added
to them yet. Suffix spelling rules
Rule 1: For words ending in two consonants, just add the suffix to the root word.
For example: smart + er = smarter
Rule 2: For words that end in a short
vowel sound followed by a consonant, you need to double the last letter then
add the suffix. For example: mop + ed = mopped Rule 3: For words ending in a
consonant followed by an ’e’, you need to drop the ‘e’ before you add the
suffix. For example: stride + ing = striding Rule 4: For words that end in a consonant and a ‘y’, change the ‘y’ to
an ‘i’ and then add the suffix. For example: cry + ed = cried However if the suffix you want to add starts with an ‘i', you keep the original
‘y’ so that you don’t end up with a double ‘i’. For example: cry + ing = crying Watch out! These rules are true most of the
time but there are always exceptions to spellings in the English language. For
example, skiing.
Practise You may need paper and a pen or
pencil for some of these activities.
Activity 1 Have a go at this suffixes quiz. Can
you get all five questions correct?

Reasoning focus: Today we will look at hundredths,
so let’s look at our place value chart again. We know that if we
divide a whole number by 10 we move it one place to the right.
When working with hundredths we divide by 100, moving 2 places
to the right.
Instead of our numbers showing part of 10, if they have 3 digits,

Literacy Task:
Watch SPTV for Daily Literacy This week we will be using the
information we have learnt about Norway to compare it to the UK before writing persuasively to adopt their Eco
friendly way of life.
At the bottom of the page, think carefully about how advanced Norway
are in setting a leading world example of living an Eco friendly life. What do
they do to promote ‘green’ living? Think about the different types of
energy that they have, about their eco cars, fishing and farming. How to they look after their environment?
How do they encourage recycling? Create a mind map (Knowledge
harvest) of all the positive ways each country adopts this.
Think about the following five areas
that you might know about. Is there anything else you could add to your
mind map?

e.g. 1.23, they represent part of
100. The process is the same, only we
divide by 100 rather than 10. Therefore, in this case 6 ÷ 100 = 0.06

decimals. When we compare numbers such as 9, 98, 987-
how do you know which numbers are larger? It’s all to do with where they sit in a place value
chart. We know that numbers in the hundreds column are larger
amounts than those in the tens.
How would you find the largest
amount between these numbers? 189 and 187.
You move through the columns, starting with the hundreds column,

about identifying the features of writing Persuasively
The features of persuasive texts are: Title implies a point of view
Reasons to support the viewpoint Facts and evidence to support
reasons Connectives to link ideas (e.g.
however, therefore, furthermore) Persuasive devices: Agreement
(e.g. obviously, without doubt)
Powerful adjectives Rhetorical questions

then the tens and finally to the
ones. We use the same process to
compare decimals. Look at this chart. We always start from the left and work to the right.
Although B has smaller numbers- 0’s and 1’s, the 1 is in the ones
column. A has nothing in the ones column which means that B is the
larger number.
Remember to write your new
knowledge in full sentences and complete the box with as
many new facts as you can! How many of your questions been answered?
Send a picture of your
completed KWL grids to your teacher on DB primary.
Conclusion to summarise and
state opinion Task 1:
Read over the different examples of persuasive texts. Can you identify their features in each of them? You may
wish to get some colour pencils to find the different parts in each.
What do you notice about each of the texts?
Task 2:
Read the information about Fidget Spinners (See below) and why children
want to have them in the classroom. Can you persuade us that they should
be allowed? Write a short paragraph using some of the features of persuasive writing to convince us!
Send them to us on DN Primary.

Reasoning focus: Rounding decimals is very similar
to rounding whole numbers! All you need to remember is that
numbers 4, 3, 2, 1 round down and 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 round up!
E.g. 19 rounds up to 20, 14
rounds down to 10.
Practise with these whole numbers first:
Science Focus: Last week, we spent a bit of time looking carefully at
different invertebrates and seeing if we could find them
in their natural habitat.
We have thought carefully
about how living things can
be grouped and classified using a branching key.

Literacy Task:
Watch SPTV for Daily Literacy Today we are going to use our plan to
write our piece of Persuasive writing. Persuasive writing needs to have a
focus so that it becomes balanced in its viewpoint. Our writing is going to have
the big question: Why should Britain become more Eco friendly like Norway?
When writing we need to make sure
that we follow the structure carefully. Our writing must include:
An introduction that outlines our discussion and mentions the question.

Remember, when rounding we look to the last digit in a number, it’s just the same with decimals. We
round them to their nearest whole number. E.g. 3.7 would round up
to 4. 3.2 would round down to 3.
Practise with:
3.7= 9.8= 2.7= 12.3=
24.8= 76.4=
Play the sort it game! This is

then play the yes / no game. What questions can you ask about the leaves to try and
identify them? Eg: Is it smooth on both
sides? Write down the questions that
you ask and the answer you receive.
You can then take 4 leaves
and glue/ tape them to the bottom of the page. Then
work your way upwards to create a branching data base – what was your starting

Today we will be looking back
through our learning on decimals. Use the SPTV videos and the input
from this week to remind you how to find decimals and how to convert them into whole numbers.
Feel free to message your teacher on DB primary if you have any
questions.
Watch the CAFOD Powerpoint
called Nitu’s Story. Think carefully about the thought-
provoking questions in the story. How did it make you feel?
Over the last few weeks we have been thinking about the
special qualities that different people have and how
wonderful they are.
Read the following letter of St Paul with the children:
Paul was always writing
letters to the friends he had made all over the world. In one letter to the Christians in
Colossae he said: “You are created by God, to
be like God. You are God’s people, his
saints. He loves you. You are all different.
You come from different places, speak in different
ways, have different
customs. But the important thing is
that you are God’s children.
4H– will begin at
12pm. It will finish at 12pm on
Friday! Which class will be the Rockstars
winners? Reward stickers
will be posted on DB Primary for
everyone that participates! Good
luck!
Starter:
So love one another, help
one another, be at peace with one another.
And let the love of Jesus fill your hearts and minds.” (based on Colossians
3:10−11)
Or, in another letter to the Christians in Corinth, Paul
talked about the different gifts that people are given by
God (1 Corinthians 12:4−30, adapted).
There are many different
gifts. There are all sorts of things to be done for others. God gives each of us
different gifts. Some are wise; some can explain
things well; some can make people better; some can make
people happy. It’s like your body. Different parts have a
different job to do. Each part is different and
important. Your body needs
all the parts to work well together. You need a head to
think, eyes to see, hands to hold, feet to walk, ears to
hear. If your whole body
was just an eye, how would
you hear anything? If your whole body was just an ear,
how would you smell anything? Each part is put there by God for a special
purpose. Just as each gift is given to us by God for us
to use, we need one another so that everything that needs
to be done is done.
Look carefully at the picture of the box of chocolates.
Although each one looks and tastes different, they all
contribute to the whole package – just as we all have a place in this world
and we rely on one another
from everyone else –it’s what
makes us unique It is a good think to be different.
Write a short paragraph outlining all the gifts and
special qualities you have.
Monday’s Literacy
Activity 2
Add a suffix to each word in the list, making sure to spell it correctly.
Choose from the suffixes: -er, -ing, -est, -ed.
Try to use each suffix at least once.
1. Laugh
2. Short
3. Tall
4. Help
5. Hop
6. Slip
7. Shop
8. Chat
Top tip! Remember spelling rules 1 and 2.
For words ending in two consonants, just add the suffix to the root word.
For words that end in a short vowel sound followed by a consonant, you need to double the last letter then
add the suffix.
Activity 3
Add a suffix to each word in the list, making sure to spell it correctly.
Choose from the suffixes: -er, -ing, -est, -ed.
1. Shine
2. Joke
3. Happy
4. Like
5. Funny
6. Worry
7. Cute
8. Try
Top tip! Remember spelling rules 3 and 4.
For words ending in a consonant followed by an ’e’, you need to drop the ‘e’ before you add the suffix.
For words that end in a consonant and a ‘y’, change the ‘y’ to an ‘i’ and then add the suffix. However if
the suffix you want to add starts with an ‘i', keep the original ‘y’.
Activity 4
Now you are a super speller, try this activity!
Read each sentence carefully then add a suffix to the word in brackets so that it makes sense in the
sentence.
Choose from the suffixes: -er, -ing, -est, -ed.
Think carefully about the four spelling rules.
1. I am (plan) to go on a walk at the weekend.
2. I (walk) for miles yesterday.
3. Sally was busy (write) in her diary.
4. Kim (carry) the shopping in from the car.
5. Number 4 always have the (bright) Christmas lights on the street.
6. When I am older, I want to be an Olympic (swim).
7. I got told off for (spy) on my sister.
8. The new sofa was much (wide) then the last one.
