The next section of work for you to continue at home, is developing the theme/concept ‘identity’. I wouldlike you to now take your projects in YOUR OWN direction.

• This project will continue into year 11 as part of your 60% course work.

• Don’t panic! That doesn’t mean you all have to do portraiture for the next project.

• Everyone will be given the theme ‘Identity’ in Textiles, and every project will evolve into a completelyunique outcome. For example you may look at finger prints, social media and develop a series ofmark making responses, or you may focus on peoples beliefs and machine stitch/print/draw/embroiderfrom Churches/mosques/places of worship etc.

• If you had a project/direction in mind discuss it with us and we can see how to relate it to the themeidentity.

• Work your way through the tasks in sketchbooks or anything that can be used creatively that youhave at home. If you want to work on a larger scale we can provide large paper.

TASK 1 – CREATE A MIND-MAP

Look at the next slide for keywords to help you.

Make sure you present your mind maps creatively!

Task 2. MOOD/THEME BOARD –Developing a mood/theme board that takes you into YOUR direction/theme

TASK 2 – Mood/Theme board

You have researched and responded to a wide range of artists and you are now ready to develop your own theme/concept/style based on this research.

1. Create a mood/theme board with images from magazines, internet and your own drawings. Make sure it shows the theme/direction you want your own work to go in.

2. Explain your theme/concept with detailed annotation.

• See the next few slides for help.

• Present it well, annotate to explain the images you have included, and how they relate to the topic of identity.

Task 3. OBSERVATIONAL DRAWINGSDraw from real life or images, not your head! Really look at what you are drawing from.

TASK 4 – Drawing from real life or imagery based on your theme/concept.

1. Draw in a variety of mediums from real life or images. You could use different drawing techniques and mediums to suit your theme (e.g. print, stitch, paint, pattern, computer aided design (photoshop)

2. Drawing for your theme – Consider what your theme is, for example, if ‘hiding your identity’ was a theme you may distort an image before drawing it or apply camouflage to the image.

3. You can draw from real life, the photography of other, magazine images, or you can take selfies or photos of others. You can use filters and different apps to alter and add effects to these.

See the next slide for help and inspiration.

Task 4. ARTIST RESEARCH

TASK 4 – Find an artists work that reflects your theme or a style you like.

1. After researching and selecting a relevant artist create an ‘Artist page’ on them like you have done before. Include information about them, images and copies of their work. This will help influence the style of your work, and give you ideas.

See examples of artist research pages on the slide.
