19 th May 2015 Dear Parent/Carer, Year 11 Examinations & Study Time The summer examination season commenced on Monday 11 May and continues through to the final examination for Year 11 on Friday 12 June. As a reminder, examination timetables are available on the ‘Examinations’ page of our website; visit www.isleworthsyon.org. Please find below some of the details for the end of the examination season. Friday 22 May Your son’s last full morning in school is Friday 22 May. There is an English Literature examination taking place in the morning, but at the end of the examination we shall be taking the opportunity to hold our Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly. The boys will return to the school hall during Period 3 for a formal assembly which allows us to take the opportunity to mark the end of Year 11, before the half-term break. At the end of the assembly, the students will leave school. We anticipate that this will be at approximately 12.30pm. It is a tradition that students sign shirts as some form of memento; however, if they plan on doing this, they should bring in a spare shirt for this purpose. If your son has ordered a Leavers’ Hooded Jumper, this will be issued at the end of the assembly. Students on Free School Meals will be able to use their allowance at break-time. Examinations after Half-Term From Monday 1 June until the end of the examination period, your son is required to follow the timetable that he has been given with examinations, revisions sessions and some lessons to support any remaining subjects. There will also be some warm-ups starting at 8.00am or 1.00pm, unless otherwise notified by subject staff. Please note that non-attendance at an examination will result in a charge being made, so do be sure that you are familiar with your son/ward’s timetable. Where students are taking BTEC courses, the course does not finish until all coursework has been received, accredited and submitted. Many students on BTEC courses will be in school to finalise their coursework and should attend all their BTEC lessons as normal, as long as they do not clash with examinations or examination preparation classes. They may also be directed to attend school at other times to ensure they have completed coursework to an appropriate level. While students are in school, may I remind them they are required to wear full school uniform. If students are on the school site, they are expected to be in either an examination warm-up, an examination, or a lesson. Where students are not in an examination warm-up, an examination or a lesson, they may work under supervision in the library or be allowed to leave the site. They are not, however, allowed to use the school sports facilities. Please do remember that we continue to expect the highest standards of conduct from the boys. I would be grateful if you would continue to set this expectation. Revision It is, of course, critical that your son/ward makes a concerted effort for the remaining examinations. A blank revision timetable is available to download from the website. Please make sure that your son/ward plans his revision over half-term and covers six hours each day as a minimum commitment.

Year 11 Examinations & Study Time

The summer examination season commenced on Monday 11 May and continues through to the final examination for Year 11 on Friday 12 June. As a reminder, examination timetables are available on the Examinations page of our website; visit www.isleworthsyon.org. Please find below some of the details for the end of the examination season. Friday 22 May

Your sons last full morning in school is Friday 22 May. There is an English Literature examination taking place in the morning, but at the end of the examination we shall be taking the opportunity to hold our Year 11 Leavers Assembly. If your son has ordered a Leavers Hooded Jumper, this will be issued at the end of the assembly. Students on Free School Meals will be able to use their allowance at break-time. Examinations after Half-Term

From Monday 1 June until the end of the examination period, your son is required to follow the timetable that he has been given with examinations, revisions sessions and some lessons to support any remaining subjects. There will also be some warm-ups starting at 8.00am or 1.00pm, unless otherwise notified by subject staff. Please note that non-attendance at an examination will result in a charge being made, so do be sure that you are familiar with your son/wards timetable. Revision

It is, of course, critical that your son/ward makes a concerted effort for the remaining examinations. A blank revision timetable is available to download from the website. Please make sure that your son/ward plans his revision over half-term and covers six hours each day as a minimum commitment.

  • Finally, please do keep supporting and monitoring your son/wards examination revision. Even at this stage, sensible, sustained work will have a positive impact on examination outcomes. Books and Lockers

All textbooks and library books must be returned to the members of staff or the librarian. This must be done after your son/wards last examination. If your son/ward has used a school locker, this needs to be cleared and the key returned by the same date. We will reserve the right to withhold examination results or certificates should items not be returned. Examination Results

Results will be issued at 9:00am on Thursday 20 August. Students are welcome to discuss them with members of staff should the need arise. Sixth Form Enrolment

This takes place on Thursday 20 August or Friday 21 August, between 10:00am and 2:00pm. If you are unable to enrol at these times, the process can be completed at the start of the Autumn Term. Donations

If parents/students are willing to donate blazers/ties/sports kit etc. to help younger students, we would be happy to accept them as donations at any time after your son/wards examinations. Thank you in advance for your consideration. The Isleworthians Association

There is also an opportunity to join the Isleworthians Association. All Year 11 students are eligible to join. I hope that many will choose to continue their association with the school through membership and participation in sports teams. You can access membership forms through their website: www.isleworthians.co.uk. The Year 11 Prom

This takes place on Friday 26 June. It takes place at Brentford Holiday Inn and promises to be another special event. Subsidised tickets are on sale from school. Please do encourage your son/ward to celebrate the end of examinations through their attendance at the Prom. The Staff at school wish all students good luck with the examinations. Please do remind your son/ward that good luck is most often made with thorough preparation. We hope to see many of them continuing to flourish in the Sixth Form or to hear of their successes elsewhere.

    FINIS CORONAT OPUS

    Yours faithfully,

    Euan Ferguson Headteacher
