What will be studied this termYear10 will study the novel ofMice and Men.For reading students will:

Show a clear understanding of the text through an analysis of language and how language isused to create particular effects. They will also evaluate and make interpretations of the textaccording to different perspectives and language variation.

Some students will understand the social and historical context of the text. They will use thisto develop in-depth and detailed evaluations of the text and key features of the text.

    For speaking and listening:

Students will maintain and develop their talk purposefully in a range of contexts. They willstructure what they say clearly, using well selected vocabulary and appropriate intonation andemphasis. They use standard English confidently in a range of situations, adapting asnecessary.

Some students will make a range of contributions that show they have listened perceptivelyand are sensitive to the development of discussions.

How will work be assessed During the summer term, students will complete a series of activities, practice exam questions

and a controlled assessment will be completed. Practice assessment activities and controlled assessments will be marked according to the

schools assessment and feedback policy, the criteria outlined above and GCSE Mark

schemes. What needs to be done at home

Students are required to read the text fully and carry out research connected to the text togain a clear understanding of the social and historical context.

Differentiated additional skills based tasks will be given according to the needs of the group. Revision and practice of writing skills, grammar, punctuation and spelling. Resources and practice exam questions are available via the facultys website, BeENGspired

which can be found through the school website. What Key Language will be developed

Standard English and non-formal language used with text. Encouraging students to use and understand more ambitious vocabulary relating to the text. Evaluate, analyse, identity, compare, infer, deduce, structure, dialogue, representation,

context, select, literary, interpret, features, quotation, explanation, language, perspective, effect.

Vectors Recall the definition of a circle and identify (name) and draw the parts of a circle

Understand related terms of a circle

Draw a circle given the radius or diameter.

Understand and use the fact that the tangent at any point on a circle is perpendicular to the radius at that point.

Further Graphs and Functions Plot and recognise cubic, reciprocal, exponential and circular functions y = sin x and y = cos x, within the range -

    360 to +360

Use the graphs of these functions to find approximate solutions to equations, eg given x find y (and vice versa)

Find the values of p and q in the function y = pqx given the graph of y = pqx

    Match equations with their graphs

Recognise the characteristic shapes of all these functions

Construct the graphs of simple loci including the circle x + y = r for a circle of radius r centred at the origin of the

coordinate plane Find the intersection points of a given straight line with this circle graphically

Select and apply construction techniques and understanding of loci to draw graphs based on circles andperpendiculars of lines

Solve exactly, by elimination of an unknown, two simultaneous equations in two unknowns, one of which is linearin each unknown, and the other is linear in one unknown and quadratic in the other, or where the second equationis of the form x + y = r

    Transformation and Functions Apply to the graph of y = f(x) the transformations y = f(x) + a, y = f(ax), y = f(x + a), y = af(x) for linear, quadratic,

    sine and cosine functions

Select and apply the transformations of reflection, rotation, enlargement and translation

    of functions expressed algebraically

During this term you will gain an understanding of some of the requirements of the GCSE course.

Develop your creative ideas through investigations, informed by relative (contextual) studies and othersources

Looking at the artwork of others both traditional, modern and contemporary

    Demonstrate analytical and cultural understanding

Explore and refine your ideas through experimenting and selecting appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes

Record ideas and observations, illustrate insights relevant to their intentions in visual and/or otherforms

    How will work be assessed

You will be continually assessed, based on the Assessment Objectives laid out by the exam board.

What needs to be done at home

As a dedicated Art student you should be creating artwork and refining your skills all the times.

The more time an artist spends on honing their craft the more successful the work they produce willbecome.

Even when homework is not set students should be working on extending their portfolio further.

Assessed work must be connected to the starting point you (the students) have been given.
