Year 10 & 11 Mock Examinations

Dear Parent,

As you will be aware from our Academy calendar, the Academy’s internal mock GCSE examinations

will take place from the week beginning Monday 21st

November 2011 through until Friday 2nd

December 2011. Your daughter’s subject teachers will have been preparing her for the exams during

lessons in terms of content and revision techniques.

The mock examinations are a key indicator of how your daughter is progressing with her GCSE

studies, and your daughter should therefore, treat them as such by applying herself fully in the build

up to and during her examinations. We will inform you of your daughter’s results via the publication

of a current projected GCSE grade in your daughter’s next Grade Card, which you will receive

towards the end of this term.

We would appreciate you encouraging your daughter to revise carefully for her mock examinations;

good practice now will engender good habits for future public examinations. Could we also ask that

your daughter comes to school prepared with the correct equipment for each examination as it is

Academy policy not to lend equipment during examinations. It is also the responsibility of your

daughter to check her seating arrangements on the exam notice board, and to arrive in good time

prior to the start of her exams.

Outlined over the page, is the examination timetable for the mock examination fortnight.

Please note in particular, that all exams will take place in the Gym and Drama Studio, with the

exception of Music, Art, Textiles, Drama and ICT OCR (highlighted in yellow) due to the use of

specialised equipment.

AM exams will start at 9.00am, mid-morning exams at 11.15am, and PM exams at 1.15pm,

regardless of the length and finish times. Students need to ensure that they arrive in advance of

these times, and that they have checked the exam notice board for their allocated seating position.

Exams held in the Gym/Drama Studio will be supervised by external invigilators or by specialist

subject staff for the highlighted subjects.

There will be NO Study Leave for students during the mock examination period. Lessons will

continue as normal. Where there are only small numbers in class, teachers will focus on coursework,

study skills and other skills that could help boost examination performance.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your support during the mock examination fortnight and

throughout the rest of the year. We wish your daughter every success in her exams.
