Year 1 Term Three Overview Welcome to Term 3! We hope you had an enjoyable holiday with your child. We look forward to continuing to be a part of your child's learning journey throughout the term. English This term we will be learning about information and explanation texts, exploring text purpose and language features. Take home reading books will continue to be distributed weekly as they remain an essential part of English practice both at home and at school, along with Tricky Words and Jolly Phonics sounds. o Letter sounds and grammar will continue to be taught through Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar. o We will resume Phonemic Awareness within our literacy block through ‘Heggerty’. Mathematics Measurement: Using units of measurement We will be exploring the three components of measurement; objects (e.g. pencils/string), spaces (e.g. oval/Book Nook) and events (e.g. recess time/brushing your teeth). We will use uniform informal units to measure and compare lengths, mass and capacities of pairs of objects. Number: Students will be revising reading, writing, modelling, and ordering numbers to 120. They will further explore the number name pattern to support their knowledge of number line sequence and location. They will begin to explore place value, counting collections to 100 and partitioning numbers according to their place value. Building on their Natural math strategies we will be learning about changing the order, halves and secret code. History Students will be looking at places, objects, communities and technology from the past and the present and within the context of the student’s own world. They will explore and explain how some aspects of daily life have changed over recent time while others have remained the same.

Child Protection ProgramThis term we will build on relationships and trust.We will also be exploring risk taking andemergencies by discussing consequences anddecision making.

PE/Health, Japanese and Arts

SciencePhysical Science:Light and SoundThis term, students will explore how light and soundare produced by a range of sources and can be sensed.They will be exploring how their senses are used tolearn about the world around us i.e. our eyes detectlight, ears detect sound, and touch allows us to feelvibrations. They will investigate how sound is producedusing a variety of objects and actions such as striking,blowing, scraping and shaking.

Push and pull affectsExploring how objects move and change shapee.g. moving through air, water and land.
