Year 6 English for Year 5 Parents

Post Common Entrance ProgrammeThis year’s exciting post Common Entrance programme for our Year 8 pupils has almost been finalised. Once their exams, which are straight after half term, are over, pupils will be launched into four weeks packed with physical and sporting events, drama, cookery and workshops designed to give them new life skills to take with them on the next stage of their educational journey.

Physical activities include a watersports day at Horseshoe Lake and an action packed Bushcraft Week, where they will undertake a variety of adventure and team building activities and, of course, Sports Day.

The group will spend an intense week rehearsing and preparing for a performance of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice which will be presented to parents on the Friday evening.

Visiting speakers will guide the children through workshops on On-Line Safety and the British Board of Film Classification.

They will also have a cookery session and write stories for the Pre-Prep children. A fun skittles evening completes the programme.

In between all these events, Year 8 will be completing their Yateley Manor Award log books to earn their bronze, silver or gold awards.

The Post Common Entrance programme is the culmination of Year 8s’ time at Yateley Manor and complements their hard work academically and within the School community. We look forward to celebrating all that they have achieved at our end of term Speech Day.

Shakespeare Week is less than a month away and plans are well underway for a fun-filled week putting together ‘The Merchant of Venice’ with director Chris Connaughton.’ Children in Year 8 have received news of the character they will play and are in possession of scripts to begin the process of familiarisation and learning of lines. Details of the week itself and costume requirements will be sent out soon. Thank you.Children in Year 7 are also busy learning lines for the up and coming Poetry Picnic Performance on 10th of June. More details will follow directly after half term.

Year 8 Shakespeare and Year 7 Picnic Performance

Head of English, Antonia Robinson, will be holding a Year 6 English for Year 5 Parents meeting on Monday 3rd June

The meeting aims to explain the standard of English expected from children at the age of 11. It also covers how teachers support children in preparation for exams and how parents can help. In the past this meeting has proved to be highly valued by parents.

The meeting will start at 4.45pm and will be held in Johnson and Bronte. If you would like to attend this meeting please complete the form that can be found here.

When she puts her crash helmet on, the car does not know if she is male or female. Born in Guildford in July 1980, Katherine Legge is a British racing car driver and, some might say, the most under-rated sportswoman. To achieve notoriety during her career, Legge has needed perseverance, resilience and an unfaltering desire to succeed.

We are so proud of our two Tenner Challenge Teams and what they achieved on their first venture onto the Young Enterprise scheme. Team ‘Mother’s Little Helpers’ took £170.80 with the sales of their ‘must have’ Mother’s Day gifts. They managed to keep up with demand and engineered a school craze with their brightly coloured pom-pom keyrings. They also made a substantial donation from their profits to the school charity Daisy’s Dream. Team ‘The Ruler’ kept pupils and some teachers supplied with their ever-changing attractive stationery supplies in their custom-made mobile sales box. They took an excellent £49.54. Congratulations and thanks to both teams. Here’s to Tenner Challenge 2020!

Tenner Challenge - Mission Complete

Summer Uniform After Half TermA quick reminder that after half term, all children should be wearing Yateley Manor summer uniform.

A reminder also that as the weather warms up that during the summer hats should be provided for sport or play and a good spread of colourless sun cream should be applied before the children come to school, as the staff are unable to apply it.

Games KitHalf term is an excellent opportunity for parents to check their children’s kit bags to make sure that sports kit belonging to other children has not been put in the wrong bag by mistake.

Several children have lost parts of their sports kit which they will be needing for Sports Day after half term.

If you find kit which does not belong to your child please pop it into School Reception so that it can be returned. Thank you.
