Y13 Video Analysis

Jodie Birkbeck, Charlotte Park, Laura Naylor & Ashley Billingham – Dear Devil

Storyline•A horror trailer teenage girl appears to become possessed after reading the devils diary.

ShotsThe trailer seemed much more authentic due to this appearing before the trailer began. I really liked the

lighting at this point of the trailer and throughout, it added to the creepy and eerie atmosphere.

The font here fits nicely with the rest of the trailer. It increases it authenticity as a horror trailer as many horror trailers have shots that only contain writing to help explain what it happening.

ShotsThe angle used here is quite interesting, its not just straight on, its as if something is watching her climb into the attic.

I really like the lighting in this shot, once again it adds to the creepy atmosphere that a horror trailer needs. The way the light shines looks really good.

I like this part of the trailer, it begins quite dark and as she comes around the corner, the attic brightens up a bit more.

Shots

I like the recurring theme of the font throughout the trailer, the colour stands out as the rest of the trailer is quite dark.

I like the angle of this shot as it looks quite interesting. Rather than showing her whole body, it focuses on her walking towards the camera and the saw she is dragging.

I like the end scene that shows them walking off together, it shows that there is a happy ending and the credits rolling over is also quite simplistic like the title, which works nicely.

Evaluation Actors – The choice of actors in this horror trailer we very good, the main actress protrayed the eerie feel of the trailer very well.

Locations – The locations used within this trailer were very traditional of horror trailer, for example the loft/attic. This fit really well with the trailer and like the actors, addded to the eerie storyline.

Sound – The whispering voices at the beginning of the trailer stood out the most to me as it was a combination of different voices and it sounded interesting and made me want to carry on watching to find out what the dates meant.

Edit - I really liked the editing within this short film, it transitioned very well between the shots of charlotte and the title and the words etc. The end of he trailer where it sped up added more suspense as it flashed quickly between shots.
