A Message from Fr. Ed -
Thursday, April 9, 2020, the Church celebrates and we begin, the Sacred Triduum – Holy Thursday,
Good Friday and Easter. This year our outward Lent has been very different as we still continued to reflect
inwardly, through our Prayer, Fast, and Charity, upon our life and relationship in Christ Jesus. The words of
Scripture continue to echo in our ears, “Be not afraid.” Possibly this year more so than ever, we celebrate the
Sacred Triduum with more depth of faith and eager understanding.
As we celebrate Holy Thursday, we reflect upon Jesus at the Last Supper when he instituted the Eucha-
rist and he washed the feet of the disciples. What were his words prior and after this act of servitude of wash-
ing their/our feet? What was he trying to say to the disciples, what is he trying to say to us? Is God revealing
himself to us? Is Jesus giving us an example to imitate? How can I live this out in my present life?
On Good Friday, possibly hidden to us within the Scripture readings, is the word/concept of
“obedience.” Jesus was in communion/deep relationship with the Father; he offered himself as a sacrifice so
that we might live in the fullness of his relationship with the Father.
At times we all seem to have crosses to bear. What cross was Jesus asked to bear? What crosses are
we carrying? What does being “obedient” to the Father mean for us?
On Easter Sunday we rejoice at the fact that through obedience to the Father Jesus conquered death,
and hopefully through our own obedience to the Father, we will also share in Christ’s resurrection. Easter is a
celebration of life in Christ; a celebration of, through obedience, loving God and loving one another.
Here is a Triduum prayer for us all: Father, let us feel at every moment of our lives the abiding pres-
ence of your Son, by your indwelling Spirit of love. Let us never lose heart, but go forth in confidence, for
the battle is yours, and you are at our side, through Christ Our Lord. Amen. Happy Easter! ~ Fr. Ed

P.P.S.: Tony D. e-mailed this to me this week. It is rather clever and creative.
Just be careful because people are going crazy from being in lock down! Actually I've just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee, and we all agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything; and certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end, the iron straightened me out as she said everything will be fine, no situation is too pressing. The vacuum was very unsympathetic . . . told me to just suck it up; but the fan was more optimistic and hoped it would all soon blow over! The toilet looked a bit flushed when I asked its opinion and didn’t say anything, but the door knob told me to get a grip. The front door said I was unhinged, and so the curtains told me to . . . yes, you guessed it . . . pull myself together.

Easter Flowers and Intentions
The Parish is grateful all your donations for the
Easter Flowers. Father Ed has arranged for a fair
display of beautiful flowers to decorate the church
for his celebration of Easter Mass. All of your re-
quested intentions will be remembered at Easter
and in the Easter Season.
At a future time when public Mass will
again be permitted, we will celebrate together our
return to the Liturgy and the Sacraments; on a des-
ignated day, on which many more “Easter Flow-
ers” will again adorn the altar, the list of your in-
tentions will then be published within the bulletin.
On the Third Day He Rose from the Dead
The Resurrection of Jesus is the crowning truth of our faith in Christ, a faith believed and lived as the central
truth by the first Christian community; handed on as fundamental by Tradition; established by the documents
of the New Testament; and preached as an essential part of the Paschal mystery along with the cross:
Christ is risen from the dead!
Dying he conquered death;
to the dead, he has given life.
The Historical and Transcendent Event
The mystery of Christ’s resurrection is a real event with manifestations that were historically verified, as the
New Testament bears witness.
The Empty Tomb
“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has arisen.”
The first element we encounter in the framework of the Easter events is the empty tomb. In itself it is not a
direct proof of Resurrection; the absence of Christ’s body from the tomb could be explained otherwise. None-
theless the empty tomb was still an essential sign for all. Its discovery by the disciples was the first step to-
ward recognizing the very fact of the resurrection. This was the case, first with the holy women, and then with
Peter. The disciple “whom Jesus loved” affirmed that when he entered the empty tomb and discovered “the
linen cloths lying there,” (that) “he saw and believed.” This suggests that he realized from the empty tomb’s
condition that the absence of Jesus’ body could not have been of human doing and that Jesus had not simply
returned to earthly life as had been the case with Lazarus.
