Xale Inspiração – Inspiration Shawl(English Version)

By Iris Alessi

This idea was born after a class about

shawls creation in I Brazilian Knitting

Congress. A magical conversation had

shown me the possibility of creation. What

seemed impossible until that moment. I

had already seen some shawls without

lace, but the biggest passion was always for

the laces. But, creating my own pattern?

Until that day it seemed impossible.

It seemed... Since that class until the start

of creative process some days had passed. I

looked for many stitches, saw many works

that I liked, but until I found the perfect

stitch there were many drawings in the

paper. These drawings became the first

chart. That soon became a sample made by

yarns and needles.

After completing the first chart, I needed

another chart to finish the shawl, but

nothing that I had drawn fitted in the first

chart. For it, I created an intermediate

chart to link both drawings.

None of this would have been possible without Paula Nina’s (from Peace Knit Love

http://www.peaceknitlove.com/) magical class. Thank you Nina for changing transpiration into

inspiration.

Notes:

The Inspiração (‘Inspiration’ in English) shawl is knitted from neck to waist, in two sections.

These two sections are equal but mirrored so that each side has a trim "out of work". Because

of this, the charts (A, B and C) have the right and left sections. They are signed above each

one. The central stitch is signed too in the description (in yellow) and in the chart (with the

letter C). In all of the charts, the three first stitches are not accounted and should always be

worked in knit. The first chart (A) has seven repetitions. The second and the third one are

worked only once.

The charts are knitted from right to left, following the numbers sequence. The chart shows the

right side of the shawl.
