Year 10 History World War II Australian War Memorial Task

The Second World War is such a vast topic, it is useful to approach it from as many different angles as possible. We are fortunate in being able to use a national institution like the Australian War Memorial.

What to do

Step 1: You will be allocated a topic. Do a little research on it before you go (10 minutes). This will save you time when you get there and help you find your exhibit.

Step 2: Go to the War Memorial and find your allocated exhibit. They are all in the Second World War gallery. Ask the War Memorial staff if you need help. Read the placards and look at the artefacts displayed there. Take some photos of artefacts you find interesting and take some notes about what the placards say.

Step 3: Create a wiki page in the War Memorial wiki on our CGS Connect site. Write at least 150 words about what you found out and upload at least one photo and give it a caption.

Completion date: Thursday 15 May. You could do this during the holidays.

Tips and tricks

Why not visit the display that most relates to your essay topic while you are at the War Memorial?

To create the wiki page: go to our CGS Connect page. There is a menu in the centre left of the screen that has ‘Causes and Course of World War II’ and other headings. The last one is ‘War Memorial Wiki’. Click that. When you get to the wiki there is a large grey button in the top left of the wiki home page that says ‘create wiki page’. Click this and then start entering your content.

To insert a picture: Click the picture icon (the little picture symbol third from the left on the bottom row of the toolbar). Search your computer for the image and click ‘open’. Then select the ‘appearance’ tab and adjust the size. If you enter 300 in the first dimensions box the second will adjust automatically.

If you are having trouble getting to the War Memorial, come and speak to me, but don’t leave it until Term 2 to do so.
