WEST TEXAS A&MThe Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M registered their third straight victory on Saturday night as they dropped the first frame before responding to roll the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State (20-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-14) in front of over 500 fans at the WTAMU Field-house “The Box” in Canyon, Texas. Earlier in the afternoon, the Lady Buffs swept past Oklahoma City University (27-25, 25-21, 25-11).

HOME DOMINANCEThe WTAMU Fieldhouse “The Box” boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 438-65 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 87.2%. The Lady Buffs are no-stranger to starting off the season on a high-note, WT is 31-5 all-time in season opening games in-cluding an impressive 27-1 when the Lady Buffs open-up the season at home including a sweep of Dallas Baptist earlier this season.

WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCHWT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2014 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his seventh season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 343-58 (.870, 12th year) including a 207-38 (.865) mark in Canyon.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCEEntering last Tuesday, LSC volleyball teams were 79-46 overall this season, the squads were 18-7 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 12-5 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. Tarleton State’s Hailey Roberts (Offensive) and Angelo State’s Katie MacLeay (Defensive) picked up weekly Lone Star Conference awards while TSU teammate Chandler Gow was tabbed the league’s Setter of the Week announced last Tuesday afternoon by the LSC offices located in Richardson, Texas.

A LOOK BACK (SWOSU RECAP)The Lady Buffs were led by Cori Haley with a match high 17 kills on 37 swings with just three attack errors to hit .378 on the night while Courtnee Curl registered 15 kills and Michaela Montgomery had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, Jessica Jackson guided the WT offense with 45 assists while Lauren Britten led the team with 14 digs on the night.

A LOOK BACK (OCU RECAP)The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Haley with 12 kills on 27 swings with just one attack error to hit .407 on the afternoon followed by Montgomery with nine kills and Lexi Davis with seven, Jackson guided the WT offense with 28 assists to go along with 10 digs for the double-double while Aspen Sanders tied a team lead with 10 digs.

2015 LADY BUFF VOLLEYBALL GAME NOTES

GOING FOR 1,000The Lady Buffs registered their 998th and 999th program victories dating back to the 1980 season in a pair of Saturday wins over Oklahoma City University and Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Lady Buffs are an impressive 999-355-2 since the 1980 season for a winning percentage of 73.6% when WT started competing in the NCAA following a run through the AIWA.

EASTERN NEW MEXICOThe Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico enter the week with an overall record of 6-9 with an 0-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play as they carry a two match losing streak into Tuesday night’s matchup with WT. ENMU is led by second year head coach Sia Poyer who led the Greyhounds to their first LSC Tournament appearance since the 2014 season in his first campaign in 2014. Prior to being named the eighth head coach in ENMU history and succeeding his former mentor Mike Maguire, Poyer spent eight years in the same position at Valdosta State. Eastern New Mexico is led offensively by Lauren Frye with 224 kills (3.86/set) on 485 swings with 98 attack errors to hit .260 on the season followed by Brooklyn Biel with 102 kills (1.76/set), Alexis Aguirre guides the ENMU offense with 359 total assists this season to average 6.19 per frame while Andrea Aguilar leads the way defensively for the Greyhounds with 263 digs on the season to average 4.53 per set. ENMU is hitting .163 as a team with 691 kills (11.91/set) on 1,964 swings with 370 attack errors to go along with 650 assists, 81 service aces, 769 digs and 116 total blocks (2.00/set) on the season.

THE SERIES VS. ENMUThe Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the rival Greyhounds, 63-11 with WT taking the last 18 meetings between the two teams in a series dating back to the 1980 season. West Texas A&M is 24-8 all-time in Portales as they have taken the last nine meetings between the two teams at Greyhound arena dating back to a ENMU sweep on Oct. 25. 2004. Five of the last eight meetings between the two teams have ended in a Lady Buff sweep while the Greyhounds have taken just two sets from the Lady Buffs since Jason Skoch began his coaching stint in Canyon prior to the 2009 season.

87 CONSECUTIVE LSC VICTORIES - The Lady Buffs own the NCAA Division II record for consecutive wins against conference opponents, WT claimed 87 straight

wins against the Lone Star Conference between September 8, 2006 and September 13, 2011. During that five-year span, the Lady Buffs claimed five Lone Star Conference Championships and made three appearances in the NCAA Elite Eight with a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

28 STRAIGHT WINNING SEASONS - The Lady Buffs have registered a winning campaign every year since 1987, marking 28 consecutive seasons with a winning re-

2015 west texas a&m laDy buff Volleyball Entering his seventh season at West Texas A&M in 2015, head

coach Jason Skoch looks to build upon the great success of his first six years as the Lady Buffs’ leader.

The 2014 campaign was another dominating run thru the Lone Star Conference for the Lady Buffs as they went a perfect 16-0 in league play to claim their 19th LSC Championship while registering a perfect league record for the 16th time since the 1986 season.

The Lady Buffs participated in their 10th straight and 25th overall apearance in the NCAA Postseason as they made an appearance in the South Central Regional Semifinals before dropping a five-set thriller to host Colorado Mesa in Grand Juntion to finish the season with an overall record of 32-5. Skoch was named the LSC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and his fourth overall award since joining the league prior to the 2009 season.

2013 saw the Lady Buffs continue their dominance of the Lone Star Conference as the team went a perfect 16-0 in league play to claim the program’s 18th LSC Title. WT hosted the South Central Regional Tournament at “The Box” as they claimed the program’s 13th Regional Title, the Lady Buffs advanced to the National Semifinal match before falling to BYU-Hawaii in a five-set thriller. Skoch was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) South Central Region Coach of the Year as well as the LSC Coach of the Year for his efforts. The 2012 season saw the Lady Buffs claim the LSC Tournament Title after a thrilling five set win over Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas followed by WT taking the South Central Regional Championship to make the program’s 12th appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight held in Pensacola, Florida. WT finished the season with an overall record of 33-5. In 2011, the Lady Buffs went 34-3 including a 19-1 mark in the LSC for their sixth consecutive and 17th overall LSC Championship. WT made its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA postseason, Skoch picked up his second consecutive LSC Coach of the Year honor. The Lady Buffs put their mark in the NCAA Record Books in 2011, recording the longest conference win streak in Division II history of 87 matches from Sept. 8, 2006 – Sept. 17, 2011. In 2010, the Lady Buffs finished the season with a 27-9 overall record and a flawless 14-0 mark in the LSC. The team won its fifth consecutive LSC Championship and 16th overall. WT reached the NCAA Postseason for a sixth consecutive season before Emporia State in the opening round of the South Central Regional Tournament. Skoch was named the LSC Coach of the Year. In his first season with the team in 2009, Skoch (rhymes with ‘coach’) led the ultra-successful Lady Buffs to fourth-consecutive and 15th all-time Lone Star Conference title, 20th NCAA Regional tournament appearance and 11th NCAA Regional title, and 11th NCAA Elite Eight appearance. The team experienced their fourth National Championship match appearance in Lady Buff history and finished second behind three-time national champions, Concordia-St. Paul, finishing the season with a 39-4 record. Skoch currently boasts an incredible career win-loss record of 336-50 (.870) in his 10 years as a head coach, including a 200-30 (.870) mark in his six seasons at the helm of the Lady Buffs. Before coming to Canyon, Skoch served as head coach at Truman State. While with the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association-member, he guided the Bulldogs to four-consecutive top-10 rankings in the AVCA final poll. While at Truman State, he compiled a 137-22 record (.861), made five consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, developed 11 All-America student-athletes as well as two MIAA Most Valuable Players. The Bulldogs were MIAA regular-season and tournament champions in both 2006 and 2007, and spent a portion of the 2005 campaign ranked number-one in the national polls. Additionally, the Bulldogs have been ranked in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll every week during his tenure as head coach. While still at Truman, Skoch recruited the 2009 AVCA National Freshman of the Year, Megan Sharpe. He capped off his first season at the institution with a South Central regional title before falling in the Elite Eight against host and national-No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney.The Bulldogs rolled through the MIAA in 2006, going undefeated and once again capturing the MIAA tournament championship. The season was culminated with Skoch being named MIAA Coach of the Year. The squad spent five more weeks atop the national poll late in the season, and, after being recognized as the MIAA Coach of the Year for the first time, Skoch’s squad was again selected to host the South Central Regional. Skoch came to Truman after spending one season as an assistant coach at Mississippi State University. He was part of a first-year coaching staff which led Mississippi State to an improvement of 11 wins overall and tied a school record for the most wins in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. Skoch also had previous NCAA Division II experience as he was an assistant coach at Central Oklahoma in 2003. Other coaching experience for Skoch includes spending one season as head coach with the Stillwater Volleyball Club and the Kaeppa Oklahoma Charge Volleyball Club. He is a former player with club teams at Penn State University, the University of Memphis and Oklahoma State University. Skoch earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State in 1998, with a major in statistics and a minor in mathematics. He earned a Master of Science in Statistics from Penn State in 2001. Skoch and his wife, Karen, reside in Canyon with their son, Jay and twin boys, Kyle and Kade.
