THE MOUNTAINEERS LAST TIME OUTMOUNTAINEERS NIP KNIGHTS IN THREE9/22/2012 La Grande, Ore. – The Moun-taineers volleyball team closed out a weekend at home with a sweep of Warner Pacific Col-lege (25-16, 25-22, 25-23). The Knights battled throughout the match, but could never find momentum throughout a set in Quinn Coliseum Saturday.

“Warner Pacific played really scrappy tonight,” EOU head coach Kaki Morehead said. “They dug the ball really well and made us work for our points.”

Stefani Sorensen followed up her 19-kill night from Friday with a 15-kill performance against the Knights. Taylor Stewart and Casey Loper each had 11 kills.

Jessica Perron recorded 22 of the EOU’s 47 assists in the match. Karly stack finished with 19.

Stewart added a team-high 17 digs. Kaitlyn Duncan added 12 digs.

The opening set went back-and-forth with the score 13-11 in favor of the home team. Warner Pacific head coach Nels Norquist called a timeout when the score moved to a four-point lead, 16-12. The Knights scored two straight points before EOU rattled off seven in a row to take a 24-14 lead. Sorenson tallied five kills in the set, with Taylor Stewart recording four kills.

EOU squeaked out a win in the second set. The Knights tied the match twice in the early going but could never put together a run to overtake the Mountain-eers. A Sorenson kill started a 4-0 run, making the score 14-10. That space stayed intact until a service error made it 24-22. Sorenson had three kills in the

closing five points for the Moun-taineers including the game winner.

After the 10-minute intermission between sets, the Knights came out ready to play. Warner Pacific jumped out to a 5-1 lead. EOU shook off the rust and moved ahead by five points, 20-15, with a strong set by Loper. The sopho-more tallied six kills in the final set, more than she had through the first two sets. Following a timeout the Knights made their own move to tie the score 20-20. With the score knotted 22-22, Morehead called a timeout of her own.

“I just talked the team about playing with fire,” Morehead said. “We lost it a little bit of that in the third set. As always we just need to play consistent EOU volleyball. All in all it was a good weekend.”

Devan Belshe led the Knights with 11 kills.

Marchelle Bostic and Rylie En-gelson each had 17 assists.

Samantha Bryan had a team-high 17 digs. Belshe and Bostic each had 10 kills.

With the win the Mountaineers improved to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Con-ference. The Knights dropped to 9-6 overall and 3-4 in confer-ence.

EOU will travel to Caldwell, Ida-ho for a meeting with Coyotes in an I-84 battle. The College of Idaho improved to 11-4 overall and 8-0 in conference with a four-set win against Concordia. Live video and stats will be avail-able on EOUsports.com.
