DONSIMPROVEGREATLYIN2009:AccordingtoSopisSports–asportsinformationcompanythatcoverscollegiatesports,theUSFwomen’ssoccerprogramwasoneofthemostimprovedDivisionIwomen’ssoccerprogramsin2009.USFfinished23rdintheranking,witha1.08improvementrating.SanFranciscoposteda5-13-2recordin2008,beforeimprovingto7-7-5in2009.
TWONORWEGIANSARRIVEONTHEHILLTOP:ChristinaMobergandHannaHaanes,bothnativesofNorway,areinthefirstseasonoftheircollegiatecareersatUSF.HannescomestoSanFranciscowithaplethoraofinternationalexperienceunderherbelt.ThefreshmanhascompetedfortheU16,U17,U19,U20andU23NorwegianNationalTeams.ShewasnamedPlayeroftheMatchintwoEuropeanChampionshipcontests.MobergjoinstoUSFafterleadingFirstDivisionAskerFKtoa2007NorwegianCupChampionship.WhileplayingforAsker,Mobergtalliedanimpressive30goals.Todate,theduohasrecordedsevengoalsandtwoassistsforUSF,whiletaking23shots,14ongoal.TwooftheDons’fourgame-winninggoalshavecomethankstotheeffortsoftheNorwegians.
25thANNIVERSARYOFWOMEN’SSOCCER:The2010seasonmarksthe25thAnniversaryofwomen’ssoccerontheHilltop.In1985,ErikVisserbecamethefirstheadcoachoftheprogram,recruitinges-sentiallyateamofwalk-ons.Sincetheprogramsfounding,Visserhasmovedontobecometheheadcoach of the men’s program and the women’s soccer program has amassed a 178-271-33 all-timerecord.

DONS EARN FIRST REGIONAL RANK IN SIXYEARS: After a convincing 4-1 victory over defendingBigWest Champion UC Santa Barbara Aug. 29, the USF women’s soccer team earned a spotWestRegiontop-10,asannouncedbytheNationalSoccerCoachesAssociationofAmerica(NSCAA).TheDonswererankedseventhintheWest.Theregionalrankmarkedthefirsttimesince2004thatUSFhasearnedtherecognition.
