Evaluation of Feedback on the Pitch

IntroductionOn the 10th of December I pitched my idea of ‘M’ magazine to a publisher. Within my

pitch I included many details about my magazine; such as, the title, genre and frequency of release. Other details that I included in my pitch were promotion of the magazine, growth and budget plans as well as the target audience details. To make

my pitch effective I added my final front cover and double page spread design at the end to show the publisher how the magazine was going to look.

Strengths of my pitchBy looking at the feedback from my Survey Monkey survey and the witness statements, I have been able to identify my strengths and weaknesses when delivering the pitch. The main strength that was commented on was my growth plan; this is because it was extremely detailed and showed exactly how I planned on reaching my target readership. Another strength that was commented on was that the information delivered in my pitch was all suitable. Additionally my research into the marketing of my magazine to make sure that I reached a wide range of people and checked all the costs and income from each was commented on as a further strength in my pitch. Finally a comment on Survey Monkey said that the way I stayed calm and answered the questions at the end was good.

Weaknesses of my pitchThe main weakness that people commented on was the way it was delivered, as I lacked eye contact with the audience. This could be easily improved if I was to pitch again, as I would make sure to have eye contact with the audience and speak louder. Another weakness of my pitch was that it was hard for people to see the content on Prezi as I didn’t add a zooming feature to show them all the details. This can also be easily improved as I would just add a zoom effect to the most important frames so that the audience can see the details clearly within the presentation. Additionally, a weakness of my pitch was to explain the details within my pitch in depth, these included details such as the demographics of the audience and using the appropriate terminology when needed. The last presentation weakness within my pitch was the terminology used; this is because my terminology for some of the details was not appropriate for my pitch.

Improvements made to PreziSince collecting all the feedback I have made improvements to my Prezi, this will help me to eliminate some of the weaknesses within my pitch and the presentation. The improvements helped me to improve the quality improved the quality and delivery.

The main change made to my Prezi was the layout of the frames, I placed them in a shape of an ‘M’, this helped me to increase brand identity as well as insure the publisher would remember the title of the magazine. By placing the frames in this shape it also helped to keep the layout tidy and professional looking.

How well did you understand the content within the presentation?

Yes100%

Was the presentation of the content suitable? Why?

Before After

Another improvement I made to my Prezi was the format of the text; this is because I changed the headlines to a bolder green font to make it easier to see. I chose the colour green to match the house style of my magazine. The font is bigger and bolder so that it is clear for the audience to see, even from the back of the room.

I added more frames into my Prezi to spread out the content and make it easier to read and to help ensure I focused on the more important content within the frames.

The last improvement I made to my Prezi was adding a zoom feature to important details in my Prezi. This was mentioned in my feedback as the publisher struggled to see the smaller details within the content such as the production plan, image plan and mood board etc. By making these improvements to my Prezi it has helped me to make the presentation of the pitch suitable for the publisher.

Front cover and double page spreadIn my pitch I added my first drafts of my front cover and double page spread. This helped me to show the publisher the development that my magazine went through in the production process. After showing my first drafts I added a screenshot of the feedback that I received for these edits. This also helped me to show the publisher the different types of research and different opinions that I received to make sure that my magazine was suitable for the audience and publishing. Finally I added the final edits of my front cover and double page spread.

I believe that my magazine final pages were successful as they matched the criteria. The most successful features within my front cover were the barcode section, the cover lines and the layout of the page. The barcode section was successful because I made sure to keep my brand identity by adding a logo next to the barcode, as well as the logos of the social media sites. The cover lines were a successful feature of my magazine because they all surround the main image well and yet they do not block the image at all. The layout of my magazine front cover was successful as it looks like the stereotypical magazine, whilst being appropriate and original for my specific audience.

The weaknesses within my front cover are that the background is too plain, and the main image could have had another effect. To improve the background I could have added a colour gradient to remove the appearance of emptiness on the page. Another effect to the main image could have made the image stand out and appeal to the

audience more. These strengths and weaknesses were commented on when I was looking at my feedback from my pitch.

The main improvement that could have been made to my double page spread is that the images could have had another effect to make them more appealing. Another improvement that could have been made to my double page spread is to ensure that the image captions fit the images correctly. A good detail of my double page spread is that the questions and answers were differentiated well and could be read easily. Another good point to my double page spread is the layout as it is clear to read as well as suitable for my magazine.

Production planIn my pitch I also spoke about my production plan to the publisher, this helped me to show the next steps for my magazine. It also helped me to show that I had researched other magazines to work out that my staff will be organised each month to make sure that I always reach the deadline for the release date. From the feedback I received, I have added all the appropriate content into my production plan which included details such as the content that will be added into the magazine on specific days. Another good aspect of production plan is that it is realistic, as I have made sure to always have a month to make my monthly magazine. This means that the content will always be good and well thought through. Having a month long production plan also helped me to make sure that the magazine will always have a lot of content.

ConclusionIn conclusion, my pitch was successful as the feedback from the Survey Monkey and witness statements was positive. Most people understood the content that was presented within the pitch, as it was portrayed in a clear, suitable way. The main improvement would have been to present the pitch better by keeping eye contact with the audience and speaking at a suitable volume for everyone in the room to be able to hear me.My pitch received a common rating of 4/5 and this is positive as it shows that although there was room for improvement it was good for the audience.
