    thefounderofthemarshmallowexperiment. Justasinterestingasitsname,thisexperimentisquiteunique,buthas

    fundamentalrulesnomorecomplexthanaparentleavingtheirchildforamoment,whileatreatisalsoleftbehind. This

    investigationwasfirstheldinthelatenineteensixtiesattheBingNurserySchool.Lehrerdescribesthattheroomwasa

    littlemorethanalargecloset,containingadeskandachair.Now,tothissettingaddachildaroundfouryearsold.A

    forfeited. Themajorityofthechildrenstruggledtoresistthetreatandheldoutforanaverageofthreeminutes

    asLehrersays.Someatethemarshmallowwithoutdelayanddidntevenringthebell.InLehrersconclusionitwasthat

    Mischellbelievesthatintelligenceisnotwhatshouldbefocused.LehreremphasizesthepointMischelismakingashe

    arguesthatintelligenceislargelyatthemercyofselfcontrol:eventhesmartestkidsstillneedtodotheirhomework.

    Whichistrue,youcanbesmart,buttheonlywayyouhadattainedthatmuchknowledgewasthroughstudying,and

    surelythereareotherthingswewishtodoinsteadofstudying,especiallywithchildren. LehrerrevealsMischels

    carsandclothing,fameandfortuneallinyourpalm,thesearenotthethingsthatfirstmakeushappybecausethereis

    somethingthatcomesbeforethat. Iremembersittingdownonenighttowatchamoviewithmytwosiblings.It

    wasDisneysnewestmovie,ThePrincessandtheFrog.Ihadbeenexpectinganother typicallovestorythathad

    somethingtowithmagicandwishingstars,butbytheendIwascryingandproclaimingittobemymostfavoriteandthe

    bestDisneymovieIhadeverseen.Itwasthestoryaboutadarkskinnedwoman,namedTiana,wholivedinNew

    Orleans.She
