The Wrexham Network is pleased to be sharing the results of the commission bid funding won in October 2007.
This was from the Welsh Assembly Government to produce a model 14-19 network communications strategy.

Campaign Aims
Digital in contrast to the usual paper-based marketing
Targeted at meeting the needs of 14-19 year olds in the Wrexham area including:• Year 9s, 10s and 11s • 16-19 year olds in work, education, or classified at NEETS
Aimed at meeting the strategic aims of the Wrexham ANDP to create a directory of local provision and to meet targets for increased participation of 16-19 year olds in learning activity.

Meeting Customer Needs
1) www.mychoicewrexham.comThe website design, style and language were targeted at the age group with:• Animation and video • Minimal text • A learner blog to encourage interaction • A course search facility for each age group
2) Promotional Film: http://www.frozenmoon.co.uk/14-19-promo-film.html
A promotional film was made to advertise the site on social networking sites and to be viewed on the website. This featured:
• Learners enjoying a range of courses at schools and colleges across the network • The voice-overs and music were provided by network students

Bus adverts included rears and interiors on 10 buses in a 2 month campaign to launch the site. Rears were targeted primarily at parents as the car drivers most likely to see them.
The films were placed on social networking sites that are used by the age group including Bebo, You Tube and Myspace to help drive traffic to the site.

• Materials to promote the website were designed to appeal to the age group, with recycled and eye-catching pens, rulers and heart shaped pencils. Mouse mats were chosen to be placed in school computer areas and paper based materials were kept to a minimum.

Measurement & Learner Feedback
o Information about learner’s needs and their feedback were provided through an evaluation of present communications and a survey with learners which gave valuable insights into their preferred communication methods and helped to decide on the name of the website.
o A secondary internet study of 14-19 network sites in England helped to refine ideas for the site.
o Impartial focus group research by the Responsive College Unit with 8 groups of learners from across the network, provided useful feedback for the development of the website.

A Success…
• The Wrexham Network has a fantastic new online directory and promotional film that it can be proud of and which is ready for the students and wider public to use in choosing their options for 2009-10.
• Though still in the early stages of use and exposure to the target group, focus group research and feedback from the network has been positive.
• The campaign offered a targeted design that appealed to the age group, whilst still being of high enough quality to be carried through onto supporting promotional items like bus backs.
• The impact has been high with a co-ordinated ‘mychoice’ branded campaign recognisable across a suite of promotional materials
