Meet a diversity of live “Alien Invaders!” Our “aliens” are animals that were once family pets, but somehow were released into the wild. With this program, we will learn about some of the challenges that these aliens face in foreign lands, as well as the problems they create. Find out how Tuck, a Monk Parakeet, a feathered friend who should live in Brazil, came to live wild in Connecticut. Discover how Cane Toads made their way into the sugar cane fields of Florida and how Rain, a Green Iguana came to be high in tree in Bridgeport, Connecticut! Finally, we’ll uncover how a turtle called a “Red-eared Slider” made it all the way from the southern U.S. to a pond in Greenwich, CT.

There are millions of species of insects, mammals, reptiles, fish, and amphibians. Learn with Jenn about the way many of these animals make their homes, care for their children, and hide from predators!

Inflammation in your body is thought to contribute to obesity, heart disease, and cancer. Learn what foods fight inflammation and keep your body healthy.

Everyday history is being made. Marvel will discuss what happened each Wednesday, years before. From new science technologies, to famous trials, to historical war days, and even Hollywood gossip, find out what happened on this day in history!

This is a drawing strategy that helps build confidence, especially for people who say “I can't draw!” Using a grid helps break down the drawing into smaller sections and people feel less overwhelmed. Applying the grid technique from a photograph allows artists to create an accurate and proportional drawing.

Drawing is the foundation of any visual art form. You will be inspired to draw the world around you with guidance from an experienced instructor. Develop your natural talents, discover new ideas, and improve your artistic skills. Drawing is an activity of searching and exploring, and it can be a very pleasant past time. Materials provided. Beginners and accomplished artists are welcome!

Most of the works date from 1720 to 1745 and were selected by New York-based sculptor Arlene Shechet from the promised gift of Henry H. Arnhold.

The collections now number approximately 11,791 paintings, works on paper, sculptures, photographs and illustrations by American artists. The last, a unique component of the holdings, is the Sanford B.D. Low Illustration Collection, named in memory of the first director. It represents an enormous range of media and subject matter and includes important works by such noted illustrators as Norman Rockwell.

Origami was initially known as orikata (folded shapes). In 1880, however, the craft became known as origami. The term origami comes from the Japanese words oru (to fold) and kami (paper). It is not known why this term was chosen, although scholars have speculated that the characters for this term were simply the easiest for schoolchildren to learn to write. Join Lia each month to learn a new item to fold starting with a butterfly!

Wave Hill Botanical

Gardens, Bronx New York

Wave Hill is a 28 acres estate in the Hudson Hill section of Riverdale, Bronx, in New York City. Wave Hill currently consists of public horticultural gardens and a cultural center, all situated on the slopes overlooking the Hudson River, with expansive views across the river to the New Jersey Palisades. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the estate includes three houses and a botanical garden. The oldest part of the main house, Wave Hill House, dates back to 1843; Glyndor House dates from 1927, and contains a multi-room art gallery; Perkins Visitor Center, which was originally a garage, contains a gift shop and an information desk.

In this class we'll be using our imagination and creativity to pretend to be a historic or famous figure. At first the clues are difficult, but the more clues we reveal, the easier it will be for others to guess which famous figure you have in mind. In a recent session, the most clever clues were “I am not a human or animal but I am in the entertainment world.” They followed that with “I am only three feet tall.” He was Charlie McCarthy, a wooden puppet! See if you can stump your friends in this educational, interactive program.
