Cost / Design Issues
• Cost risk• Build costs running costs?• Integrated yield integrated costs?
• Target Station Design choices depend on grasp of these issues
![Page 17: WP2 Superbeam Work Breakdown Structure Version 2 Chris Densham (after Marco Zito version 1 )](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022032414/56649ee95503460f94bfb13d/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Cost Drivers: the good news?
Our ideas of the Cost Drivers are:1. Proton Driver (shared with NF) – SPL costs already
estimated by R. Garoby2. Civil Engineering: Tunnelling, buildings (NB strongly
site specific)3. Shielding: Steel and Concrete4. Far Detector (excluded from this WP)• Item 1 is already estimated• Items 2 and 3 are relatively easy to parameterise and
estimate based on CERN costing tool• Item 4 is excluded
![Page 18: WP2 Superbeam Work Breakdown Structure Version 2 Chris Densham (after Marco Zito version 1 )](https://reader031.vdocuments.site/reader031/viewer/2022032414/56649ee95503460f94bfb13d/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Safety Issues
• Civil engineering and construction• Lifting / handling• Maintenance of active components• Fault scenarios – risk of radioactive emissions
