Your leadership at Zion remains determined to seek another pastor by way of calling for an experienced man from the field. We trust that our God already knows who that man will be and that the Lord, Our Good Shepherd, will continue to guard us, to guide us, and to feed us through His Word and Sacraments. Thank God We Get What God Wants!

When I was still a parent of young children, it was not uncommon for our children to hear me say, “You can’t always get what you want”. This would, at times, disturb them, even anger them, as we walked past the candy isle in a store or saw the other enticing items near the checkout counter.

Such words might also agitate our emotions even in adulthood. We do not always get what we want. But in the spirit of Christian faith we learn to say, “Thank you God, for giving us what You want.” This might encompass the untimely illness or tragedy that can drastically curtail our family plans. This could involve a real finan-cial strain that might eliminate or delay a planned purchase. In such situations our God still and continuously reassures us that nothing “in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39).

Perhaps, more immediately, we at Zion might consider how we were unable to receive a new graduate from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary to serve as a second pastor for Zion. The apparent spiritual needs have been noted by our church council and voters. The need for planned Outreach and greater In-reach within our church’s ministry has been determined. There is also the need for more spiritual growth opportuni-ties in the way of Bible Classes, Stewardship training, Youth ministry, and Assimila-tion for our newest church members.

Our God reminds us and humbles us, by teaching us to receive His gifts in His time, not our time. So, we first thank God for the great and awesome gifts we already have received. Indeed, greatest among those is the saving faith He has implanted within our hearts. “No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3). In Jesus’ own words to His disciples, who saw and did spectacular miracles on a special mission trip, He said: “Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20). We have this all in our possession by grace alone. We have done nothing to earn or to deserve such an assurance through Christ.

Your leadership at Zion remains determined to seek another pastor by way of calling for an experienced man from the field. We trust that our God already knows who that man will be and that the Lord, Our Good Shepherd, will continue to guard us, to guide us, and to feed us through His Word and Sacraments.

What God ordains is always good; He is my friend and Father.

He will not let me suffer harm Though many storms may gather. Now I may know both joy and woe; Some day I shall see clearly That he has loved me dearly. (CW 429:3)

Summer Fellowship Beginning in June, we will offer our Sunday worshippers the opportunity to mix and to get

better acquainted with each other. Each Sunday, following our morning worship service, we will offer a time to gather around and enjoy coffee and light breakfast treats (donuts, coffee cake, etc.). In order to provide this fellowship opportunity, we need people to “host”. Host-

ing would require you to set up, make coffee, provide the treats and then clean up afterward.

The coffee, small plates, napkins and cups are provided by the church.

A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the narthex.

The 2017 Confirmands gifted the church a candle holder for the Christ Candle.

The Memorial Fund received gifts totaling $580.00 in memory of Matthew Schoenbeck.

Zion Altar Guild received a gift of $20.00 given in memory of Matthew Schoenbeck.

Light in the Darkness Fifty-four women and men from fifteen congregations in the Chicago

Area Circuit of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society (LWMS) met

at Good Shepherd, Downers Grove, on Saturday, April 22, to learn what

God is doing through WELS missionaries in East Asia. Speaker Pastor

Adam Gawel, former missionary in East Asia and now serving at St. An-

drew, Chicago, told how Christianity is growing in East Asia and plans to reach Chinese speaking people

living in Chicago. During an interactive Bible study women expressed the hope, peace, and joy felt be-

cause of faith in Jesus. Missionary Terry Schultz showed pictures of the children at Branch Schools in

Haiti receiving and giving thanks for the socks, t-shirts, under garments, barrettes, erasers, etc., they

received as Christmas gifts from the Chicago Area Circuit. A short video of mission work in Nigeria (our

world Befriend A Mission assignment) was shown. An activity was making cards from kits to send to all

home and world missionaries. The next LWMS rally will be at Christ the King, Palatine, on October 7,

and will feature Missionary Douglas Weiser who is now serving in Nigeria.

Do you have a mission field that is near and dear to your heart?

The Chicago Area Circuit of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society introduced the LWMS Yes!

Grant.

Any confirmed woman belonging to an LWMS member congregation in the Chicago Area Circuit

may apply for a $100 grant (upon discussion with her congregation's LWMS reporter) to be used to

sponsor an event that will support a WELS mission or will promote LWMS. To learn more about Mis-

sions Projects supported by WELS/LWMS follow this link - http://www.lwms.org/
