Finalize proposal for oil characterization

2 – assisting in pressure testing

Current:This is normally done by landing one or more cementing wiper plugs on top of the float equipment assembly.

Proposed:This is normally done by landing a solid (top) cementing plug on the float equipment assembly which seals the casing at that point so that the pressure integrity of the casing can be tested.

2 - Conversion

Current:This is normally done by either pumping a surface-released ball through the equipment or by circulating above a certain rate.

Proposed:The conversion is normally executed by either pumping a surface-released ball through the equipment or by circulating above a pre-determined rate.

3.5 u-tube

Current:the natural tendency of a denser fluid to reverse its flow direction once the pressure used to raise it around any “U” shaped lighter fluid filled flow path is released, allowing it to seek its equilibrium on both sides on the “U” shaped path.

Proposed:when a fluid in the annulus (area between the pipe and hole) exerts a greater hydrostatic pressure due to its higher density than that of a fluid inside the pipe The heaver fluid flows from the annulus into the pipe until the hydrostatic pressures equalize

9.2.1.2 – Back Pressure Test

Current:Following a stabilization period not to exceed 2 minutes, there shall be less than 50 mL flow through the float equipment over the next 3 minutes

Proposed:A maximum stabilization period of 2 minutes is allowed. Following stabilization, if needed, there shall be less than 50 ml flow through the float equipment over the next 3 minutes.

Note: if no stabilization period is needed, the back pressure test lasts a total of 3 minutes. In all cases, the test shall be completed within 5 minutes.

Clause 11.1Current:The test apparatus illustrated in Figure 2 consists of a chamber body with attached flange and a mating flange to which the float equipment is attached. For pressure-testing all sizes of float equipment, it may be more desirable to build several chambers rather than one large chamber. The chamber body, flanges and support equipment shall be manufactured and assembled to withstand the anticipated pressures and stressesProposed:The test apparatus illustrated in Figure 2 consists of a chamber body with attached end caps to which the float equipment is attached. … The chamber body, end caps and support equipment shall be manufactured and assembled to withstand the anticipated pressures and stresses

Clause 11.2.2Current:11.2.2 Photograph the valve assembly (top and bottom) prior to the test. Install the float equipment in the high-temperature/high-pressure test apparatus. Differential pressure may be applied to the float equipment as needed depending on the heating medium.

Proposed:11.2.2 Photograph the valve assembly (top and bottom) prior to the test. Install the float equipment in the high-temperature/high-pressure test apparatus. Differential pressure may be applied to the float equipment as needed during the 8 hour soak period.

Clause 11.2.5 – pass / fail criteriaCurrent:….. Over a maximum 30 minutes hold period, the allowable volume through the equipment during any continuous 15 minutes interval shall not exceed 750 ml.

Proposed:

A maximum of 15 mins of stabilization is allowed. Following the stabilization period, if needed, the pressure is to be held for 15 mins. During the 15 mins, any flow through the float equipment is to be measured. Maximum allowable flow is 750 ml during the 15 min hold period.

Clause 11.2.5 – pass / fail criteria

Note: if no stabilization period is needed, the pressure test requires a total of 15 minutes. In all cases, the test shall be completed within 30 minutes.

Clause 11.1 - Apparatus

Current:During pressure-temperature tests, the entire chamber (including the internal portion of the float equipment) shall be filled with a silicone-based oil (with a flash points above the test temperature) such that all air is removed from the chamber.

Proposed:During pressure-temperature tests, the entire chamber (including the internal portion of the float equipment) shall be filled with a silicone-based oil (with a flash point above the test temperature) such that, to the extent practicable, all air is removed from the chamber. The silicone-based oil shall not contain viscosity enhancers or added solids.
