The Board of Education (BOE) of the Woodridge Local Schools on October 8, 2013, endorsed Goal Statement 3: Expand and enhance our emphasis on rigor, relevance, and opportunity for all students to ensure that they can compete successfully beyond high school.

Section 1: Rigor and Relevance The four school sites in the Woodridge Local Schools continue to align their building plans to the district’s K-12 plan. The first section of the district and building plans focuses on supporting the BOE goal of expanding and enhancing rigor and relevance throughout the district. Among the questions addressed by the district CIP team was why do we intend to expand and enhance rigor and relevance. A review of trend data sources was then used to determine rationales for continuous improvement efforts in each of the following strategic areas:

• all aspects of 21st century technology including keyboarding and other computer skills; • gaps in student achievement among subgroup populations; • time and time management; • student achievement results including all measures in the new state report card; • Ohio’s Learning Standards as demonstrated by the revised curriculum maps.

Three objectives were then determined. These objectives are intended to demonstrate what success would look like throughout the K-12 system. Objective 1: Teachers will ensure at least one year’s growth for all subgroups in reading and math with a reduction of achievement gaps among all subgroups. To support the attainment of this objective, educators will receive enhanced student demographic information to identify student subgroups and service delivery models. Professional development will continue to be provided on changes to the state report card with emphasis on the growth and progress measures. Professional development and resources will also be provided related to increasing student success through instruction and assessment. This objective will ensure at least a year’s growth for all subgroups with a reduction in subgroup achievement gaps. The application side of learning will be enhanced through greater appreciation of background experiences such as field trips and mentoring. Objective 2: Teachers will evaluate the rigor, relevance, and opportunity of all scheduled educational programs and adjust allocations of time and time management as needed. To support the attainment of this objective, intervention and enrichment (I/E time) will continue to be provided for all student subgroup members. Programs to address the need for 21st century keyboarding and computer skills – and the role of cursive handwriting – will be implemented. The allocation of resources (personnel and equipment) needed for the state testing window will be reviewed and improved. Co-teaching and teacher collaboration will continue. Time for planning and preparation for instruction and assessment will be reviewed. Recommendations for adjustments in all of these areas are possible.

Objective 3: All personnel in all departments and grade levels will review the cross building content delivery and the effectiveness of content approaches and tools. To support the attainment of this objective, multiple K-12 data sources including classroom, district, and state assessments will be reviewed and analyzed. Recommendations for adjustments will be made.

Section 2: Opportunity The next section of the district CIP focuses on multiple layers of opportunity, as stated in BOE Goal Statement 3. A review of trend data sources was then used to determine rationales for continuous improvement efforts in each of the following strategic areas:

• the effectiveness of BOE community based communications; • gaps in student achievement among state report card subgroup populations; • school approaches; • diversity initiatives to ensure increased opportunity for all students; • student success in emerging subgroup populations including Gifted and students with 504

accommodation plans; • 21st century technology and needed support systems; • Response to Intervention (RtI); • College and Career Readiness.

Seven objectives were then determined. These objectives are intended to demonstrate what success would look like throughout the K-12 system. Objective 1: Students will be able to use technology effectively and efficiently for various learning purposes. To support the attainment of this objective, an aligned technology plan will be created and implemented that will address the need for a systematic approach to the teaching and learning of keyboarding, navigation, publication, sending and retrieving information, and storing and organizing information. Opportunities for technology use for students will be integrated into content instruction, navigation instruction, keyboarding skill development, academic exploration and research, etc. All technology initiatives will be reviewed, and Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) opportunities will be investigated and potentially expanded. Objective 2: Teachers will continue to focus efforts on the implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI), both academic and behavioral. To support the attainment of this objective, the RtI academic framework will continue to be implemented. Increased student academic success will be measured through local and state data sources. Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) training is a prevention-oriented way of adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions to improve academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.

Objective 3: Teachers will meet the learning needs of all subgroups and ensure at least one year’s growth for all students, including those subgroups not defined by law. To support the attainment of this objective, student subgroup data will be reviewed and analyzed. The state report card lists ten subgroups defined by law that determine racial, socio-economic, and learning data. The needs of students in emerging subgroups will be met. All students will be provided information and guidance related to the opportunities within the Six District Educational Compact. Enrollment of Woodridge High School students in Woodridge-based Six District Educational Compact programs will be increased. Overall enrollment of Woodridge High School students in other Six District Educational Compact programs will also be increased. Objective 4: Educators will increase parent involvement and provide learning opportunities for parents and families. To support the attainment of this objective, parents and families will continue to be educated about the importance of home responsibilities for success at each grade level. Homework completion, study skills and vocabulary development, and content specific learning strategies remain important for student success. Parent and child educational opportunities should be enhanced. The effectiveness of parent and family communication tools (Progress Book, Blackboard Connect, and Remind 101) should be monitored. A “Welcome to Woodridge” tri-fold flyer that explains available resources should be developed for parents new to the district. Objective 5: The district and buildings will continually improve communication with the community at large. To support the attainment of this objective, adult education opportunities should be offered. Communication with community members who are not parents or associated with the schools must be improved. District communication tools such as The Bugle should continue to be measured for quality, effectiveness, and distribution purposes. Every edition of The Bugle and the district calendars are posted on the district website. The effectiveness of the district website and use of other social media should be measured. Objective 6: The district will design and implement College and Career Readiness programming in collaboration with the Six District Educational Compact and Summit Education Initiative. To support this objective, district administrators will work to strengthen relationships and building new ones with College and Career programming partners in an effort to enhance existing initiatives and to build new programs to support career awareness goals district-wide. Goals would include increasing Woodridge student participation in Compact Career Programs as well as developing new career pathway opportunities for students at WMS and WHS. Objective 7: Appropriate computer technology, tools, and connectivity will be available for student and staff use district-wide. In an effort to maximize the integration of technology district-wide, the district will create and implement an instructional technology integration plan that will provide appropriate hardware, access to grade level and age appropriate applications and software, and connectivity district-wide. Professional development, policy revisions, expectations, infrastructure enhancements, and hardware purchasing plans will be developed.
