Women – Really Strong!
The youngest delegate was 17, the oldest was over 80 – but all the nearly 100
women who met at Burbach-Holzhausen for the Germany and Lithuania Territory’s
Women’s Weekend (8-10 November 2013) were there to explore the concept:
‘Women – really strong!’ Special guest Commissioner Nancy Roberts, World
Secretary for Women’s Ministries (IHQ), proved particularly adept at communicating
with all the women there – using humour, energy and a penetrating insight into God’s
word to assure the delegates that they were strong and immensely valued in God’s
eyes.
Under the aegis of Colonel Anne-Dore Naud (Territorial President of Women’s
Ministries, Germany and Lithuania Territory with the Poland Region) and the Women,
Families and Seniors Department (THQ), the programme offered something for all
tastes. On the first evening there was a very colourful session, with games, fun and
dancing, finishing with a period of reflection before its close.
Saturday began with a time of prayer and then, following breakfast, there was
opportunity to study particularly strong women in the Bible in small groups. In the
afternoon there were four workshops, from which the delegates could choose two.
The choices were: Gospel Aerobics, Creative Handicrafts, Self-Assertiveness and
Self-Defence and a seminar on Social Justice, which was led by Commissioner
Roberts.
In the evening, comedienne Britta Lennardt performed her one-woman show about
the role of women and the challenges they face. The opportunity for audience
participation was greatly appreciated.
The Sunday morning meeting was a time for worship and reflection. Cadet Rachael
Olsen and Training Principal Major Annette Preuß gave very moving testimonies and
Sister Joan Sütterlin sang a solo. Commissioner Roberts preached an inspiring Bible
message and many of the delegates responded to it by kneeling at the mercy seat.
At least one woman started her journey with Christ at that moment.
At the conclusion of this stimulating weekend every delegate received a devotional
book and a poem to remind her of who she is and how valuable she is.
