Federica Pellegrini (Mirano,

August 5, 1988) the first Italian woman who won a gold medal in swimming at the Olympic Games, in Beijing in 2008 in the 200 m freestyle. In her career she won four world titles in the 200 and 400 m freestyle. Currently she is the holder of the women's freestyle world records. It is the only Italian swimmer, and one of the only European to have beaten the world record in swimming in more than one specialty. It is considered the greatest swimmer of all times and one of the greatest athletes in sports history

22 April,1909) is a neurologist and life-long senator.In the fifties, her research lead to the discovery and identification of the growth factor of nerve fiber and for this she was awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1986 .On August 1 2001 she was appointed senator "for honoring the country with outstanding achievements in scientific and social fields"
