know I thank you all for
making my year of Presi-
dent so wonderfully fun
and gentle. All your con-
tributing hands, thoughts
and suggestions have

huge success as well as
a truly delightful club to

Have an enjoyable and
safe summer.

It’s been such a wonderful
experience being President of
the Woman’s Club of Seal
Beach this year. And the rea-
son this year has been so
exceptional is you, the mem-
bers. The passion, energy
and time you have given this
year to accomplish our goals
is amazing. You’ve worked
and played hard as well as
shared the joys and success-
es of jobs well done.
To know this, one only needs
to look closely at the success
of our Tea and Fashion
Show. So much planning,
beginning with Barbara
Wright’s incredible job and
continuing with all our mem-
bers’ dedication to putting on
such a successful event is
awe inspiring. Then for all
our members and guests to
reap the joys of your job well
done at the tea was so reward-
ing.
Also, every month, because of
Marilyn Bittle’s lunch arrange-
ments, we have such a festive
surprise when we walk into the
Senior Center for our General
Meetings. This month Patty Big-
gerstaff and her committee did a
truly star-studded job of treating
us to red, white and blue dis-
plays for Memorial Day. Truly
beautiful!
The McGaugh blue-ribbon poet-
ry writers were top-notch, as
always. Thank you Karen Rus-
sell for arranging our program of
poets for us again.
One could write for hours of all
the projects that are being quiet-
ly contributed by each member.
And I wish I could. But Libby
Appelgate, our incredible editor,
informs me I must confine my

Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler
It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon." This is
how Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in
love with Red that day in July 1959. The Whitshanks are one
of those families that radiate togetherness: an indefinable, en-
viable kind of specialness. But they are also like all families, in
that the stories they tell themselves reveal only part of the pic-
ture. Abby and Red and their four grown children have accu-
mulated not only tender moments, laughter, and celebrations,
but also jealousies, disappointments, and carefully guarded
secrets. from Red's father and mother, newly-arrived in

I am employed now for the last two days and

difference needed for the rent starting in May.
Thank you for helping me and my family in this
current situation, we really appreciate it.

My name is Michelle L. and I was in need of
rental assistance for one month. I was in a dire
situation and unable to pay all my rent for the
month of April 2016. I lost my job in February of
2016 and was unable to obtain work until March
25, 2016. My husband is disabled and does
receive $1,146 a month for social security and I
was paying the balance of the rent out of my
pay. Since I was not working I was unable to
save all my rent due in April. I recently obtained
my two grandchildren ages 9 and 12 and have
