Responsive Reading

“By All Means”

LEADER: Jesus’ ministry presented three years of challenges to all who encountered Him. His passionate teachings challenged the crowds, His holy authority challenged the Jewish religious leaders, His radical actions challenged the disciples, and His Great Commission challenged all who would be Christ followers. Do you accept Christ’s challenge to live out His Great Commission?

CONGREGATION: We accept the challenge to live out the Great Commission.

LEADER: Paul – also known as Saul, the persecutor of Christians – understood what it would take to live out the Great Commission. He understood that to reach the nations of the world with the gospel and see the lost redeemed in Christ, he must become all things to all people so that by all possible means he might save some. Will you say with Paul that you will live out the Great Commission “by all means”?

CONGREGATION: We will live out the Great Commission “by all means”!

LEADER: Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Will you deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow the example of Jesus by befriending the friendless, touching the untouchable, and offering hope to the hopeless? By serving the undeserved, reaching the unreached, and loving the unloved?

CONGREGATION: “By all means,” we will follow the example of Jesus’ life.

LEADER: Jesus went off the religiously acceptable path when He chose a radical route through Samaria. Not just to go through Samaria but to stop and speak with a woman with an unspeakable story. Not just to speak to her but to offer her truth, forgiveness, and Living Water. Will you step into the world around you and choose the radical routes that lead to those waiting for truth, forgiveness, and Living Water?

(Turn Over to Continue)

CONGREGATION: “By all means,” we will step into the world around us as Jesus did.

LEADER: Jesus cultivated relationships from every strata of society around Him. He befriended the rich and lofty, like Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the Sanhedrin. Jesus enjoyed the companionship of Peter and Andrew, rough and tough Galilean fishermen. And He appreciated the hospitality of everyday women like Mary and Martha. We must cultivate genuine relationships among all peoples for the joy of friendship, companionship, and hospitality without prejudice.

CONGREGATION: “By all means,” we will cultivate genuine relationships as Jesus did.

Leader: Jesus said the greatest commandment is “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,’…..And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:37,39 NIV). Jesus’ example of loving His Father, God, and loving others compels us to create opportunities to demonstrate the love of Christ.

CONGREGATION: “By all means, “ we will create opportunities to demonstrate the love of Christ to all peoples.

ALL: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”
