God of hope Be with us in our Advent journey To the stable and beyond Be with us in our meeting, And in our travelling together, Be with us in our worship And our praying together, Be with us in our Advent journey To the stable and beyond Amen. How often do you ask someone, “how are you going?” and you get the response, “busy”. Busy has become the norm for so many of us in our day to day existence. Our fast paced world demands that everything is instant. We turn on our TVs and watch the movies we want – on demand. We expect service and want what we want, when we want it. We get fed up when we have to wait in queues and there is never enough time in the day to get everything done. Waiting, especially patient waiting, is not something we do well as a society. In this fast paced instant world, Advent is extremely radical and different. These weeks call on us to focus on waiting – patiently – for the Lord. Instead of instant results and rapid fulfilment, we are called to yearn and have a pregnant expectation for the Lord. Advent derives from the Latin adventus meaning ‘arrival’ or ‘approach’. For thousands of years the world waited for the coming of the Messiah to redeem and to save the human race, restoring mankind’s relationship to God. Advent in an opportunity for us to focus towards the mystery of Christmas and prepare ourselves for the coming of Jesus in our lives. Each of the four Sundays of Advent has its own special readings and characteristics:
● First Sunday of Advent - The readings look forward to the "End Times" and the coming of the "Day of the Lord" or the "Messianic Age"; the Gospel is an excerpt from the Apocalyptic Discourse of Jesus in one of the Synoptic Gospels.
● Second Sunday of Advent - The Gospel readings focus on the preaching and ministry of John the Baptist as the forerunner of Jesus, the one who came to "Prepare the Way of the Lord."
● Third Sunday of Advent - The Gospel readings continue to focus on John the Baptist, while the first and second readings convey the joy that Christians feel with the increasing closeness of the incarnation and the world's salvation.
● Fourth Sunday of Advent - The Gospels tell of the events that immediately preceded the birth of Jesus, including the dreams and visions of Joseph and Mary of Nazareth.
The theme of Mary is extended by a focus on her response to the message that she is to be the Mother of Jesus. In the story of the Annunciation we see Mary as a model believer. Mary accepted her vocation and responded in a positive way to the presence of Jesus. We can get ready for Jesus by following Mary’s example and trusting in God and making space for God in our busy lives. During Advent, giving the family time to talk about why Jesus’ coming is important. Jesus’ coming at Christmas is an invitation to accept his love, his peace and his joy. During these weeks we can prepare ourselves to accept this invitation. Particularly at this time of the year when we become so busy with preparing ourselves physically

for Christmas; getting the food, arranging the tree, buying presents that we can forget to prepare ourselves mentally and spiritually for the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our end of year Christmas Paraliturgy is on Tuesday 18 December at 1:45pm. This is a special tradition that we look forward to here at Sacred Heart and one way that we as a community are Advent People. It is a time to come together, reflect, pray and say farewell to those who are moving on and leaving our community. I encourage you to be part of this tradition.

The Giving Tree 2018 Sacred Heart will again have the Giving Tree set up throughout Advent. This is an
opportunity for you and your child/ren to show the joy of Christmas to those in our
community who may be in need. The Giving Tree symbolises selflessness and altruism, we
are helping those people who are much less fortunate than us.
The children in all classes will be talking about the concept of the Giving Tree and will each
be making an angel gift tag. We ask that any families who are able to donate a gift please
use one of the angels that their children have made.
Remember to write the gender and approximate age on the tag or ‘a boy under 10’, ‘a girl
under 12’ or ‘boy or girl under 5’.
This year you may like to donate non-perishable food, that can be used to make up
Christmas hampers as this is something that is greatly needed by many families in our
community.
The Giving Tree will be set up just behind the stained glass window and you are welcome to
come with your child to place any contributions around the tree. In the last week of term
volunteers from St Vincent de Paul will come and collect the gifts and the proceeds from
the Social Justice Team’s recent ‘School in a Box’ drive and distribute them to those in need.
Thanking you in anticipation

ACU Kids Conference 2018
On Tuesday 20th November all the year 6 students, along with Miss Davis and Miss
Marcuzzo, went to Australian Catholic University (ACU) to support 8 of our students who
were presenting a project for the Kids Conference.
The Kids Conference is about "students teaching
teachers", where schools are invited to present how
technology enhances their learning in geography,
science, humanities, history or English.
Diya, Costa, Marlo, Aidan, Chloe, Kathryn, Talia and
Rohaan worked over the term to get their
presentation ready. It was called “Maps n Tech”, focussing on the way robotics, in particular
Ozobots, can be used to in geography.
“It was a good day and we learnt a lot from the other
schools who presented. We were all a bit nervous, of
course, but once we got up there we felt confident. I
was quite proud of how we presented and I think we did
a great job” - Costa
Thank you to the year 6 teachers and parents who helped leading up to and on the day. It
was an exciting experience.

ELearning Vision
Sacred Heart Primary School aims to provide an environment that engages students through; personalised learning,
increasing collaboration and communication between school, students and parents, whilst preparing them with the
necessary skills to become active digital citizens in a global community.
What is a 1:1 Program?
A 1:1 (one device per one child) program provide students with dedicated portable device to use at home and school

the digital generation by supporting individual learning experiences, and support focused and self-directed learning as

learning. Learning can take place in an environment where students use individual digital devices to facilitate more
authentic, collaborative and project-based learning with increased student engagement and motivation to learn.
