Our School RulesOur School Rules Focus of the WeekFocus of the Week

Woolworth’s Earn and Learn: The Woolworths ‘Earn and Learn’ program has now finished. It has been wonderful to have so many bringing in their stickers already or putting them in the boxes at the two Woolworth shops. A lot of our sporting equipment comes from this program, including all the soccer nets and many of the different balls we have. If you have any stickers at home, even if they are not on cards, please send them in so we can get them organised and swap them for valuable equipment. Thank you for your terrific support with this program.

Parent / Teacher/ Student Interviews: Thank you to all who came along to the Parent /Teacher / Student Interviews last week. It was a great opportunity to congratulate our students on the hard work they have put into their learning this year, as well as look at future goals.

Peer Support: Throughout this term, the Year 6 students have run the Peer Support program throughout the school, meeting in small groups most weeks to help students in developing personal resilience when dealing with issues such as bullying, as well as working on strategies for team building. I would like to thank the Year 6 students and teachers for all their time and effort they gave put into running this program this term, and also thank all the students who worked so well in their groups. It is an extremely valuable program that enhances all our relationships, helping to build the culture we have here at McAuley.

Lost Property: As the term comes to an end, we would love to clear the Lost Property of all the nameless items which have found their way there. If your children have lost items over the term, you are very welcome to come and see if any of the items we have belong to your family. We endeavor to return all items with names on them, but there are still so many items unclaimed. These items will be brought to the front office and those left unclaimed when holidays begin will go to either the clothing pool or St Vincent de Paul. All year our wonderful Librarian, Mrs Garnon, has continually sorted through the lost property, identifying and returning items that are labeled with names. A huge thank you to Cath for this service.

Kinder 2020: Mrs Tavares and myself are continuing to interview our new Kinders for 2020. It is an extremely exciting time for both the children and their families, as they begin to navigate the way towards ‘big school’. We are still accepting enrolment applications for Kinder 2020, so if you know anyone who has a child starting school next year and hasn’t made up their mind which school to send their child to, perhaps you could suggest McAuley. It would be lovely to have them come along and have a look at what we have to offer. I am very proud of our school, and love the idea of more wonderful people joining the McAuley family.

Focus of the Week: We Are Respectful in the Church Most weeks we are fortunate enough to have some of our students attend the Parish Mass of a Thursday and a primary class attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the Chapel behind the Church. It is lovely to see how these students are so respectful when they are in these very special venues. Last week all of the school attended a Mass in Thanksgiving for our First Communion children. Once again, it was wonderful to see how respectfully the students entered the Church.

Assembly: Kinder C will host our last assembly for the term this Friday, 5th July, commencing at 2.20pm. Please remember that bus zones will be in place during Assembly time so please park around the corner in March or Byng Street to avoid parking in the Bus Bay and receiving a fine. All parents and friends are very welcome to join us for all our Assemblies.

Wishing you a great week,

Robyn Petty

Confirmation Parent Meeting The parent meetings for the sacrament of Confirmation will take place this Wednesday 3rd July in Kenna Hall. There are two times: 9:30am and 7:00pm. Parents or guardians of any students who wish to receive Confirmation in 2019 need to attend one of these meetings. At the morning meeting there will be colouring-in books and toys for small children.

Fijian Assist a Student Fundraiser

This Friday we ask that all students wear casual clothes and if possible, donate a gold coin. The money raised will go towards assisting a Fiijian student with the cost of their education. We thank our McAuley family for again supporting this worthwhile cause.

Chapel Decorating Committee - Flower Donations

Year 6 are doing a wonderful job tending to the Chapel with Mrs Tavares. If you would like to participate, please donate some beautiful flowers (real or fake). We do this on a Tuesday at lunch-time so we can only accept real flowers on a Tuesday before 1:20pm. Any donations can be left at the front office throughout the year.

We would like to keep this going and change the flowers weekly. The flowers are a symbol of new life because we believe in the Resurrection, that Jesus rose to bring new life and it is important to remember this, especially when we gather in the Chapel.

Thank you.

By Lydianna, Gemma, Ruby, Immy, Lily, Bella, Micaela and Mellisa.

First Holy Communion Thanksgiving Mass and Cake

Thank you to our Year 3 students and teachers for leading us in the First Communion Thanksgiving Mass. It was a beautiful Mass and it was wonderful to see so many respectful students participating throughout it. We also thank Melinda Milne for supplying the gorgeous cake for the celebration afterwards.

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW OUR STAFF MEMBERS?

This week we share a little snippet of our Year 6 Teachers.

Scott Hudson was born in Canowindra and raised on a 3000 acre property 50 minutes from Cowra and 14 minutes from Wyangala Dam. Mr Hudson went to a primary school with a total enrolment of 24 students. He spent his Secondary education at Saint Raphael’s in Cowra. He and wife Julie (also a teacher at Anson St ) have 3 children. Mr Hudson has taught in Catholic schools for over 26 years both in the Primary and Secondary (Mathematics, Science and P.E). He loves dessert, loves the Tigers, Tim Tams and teaching at Catherine McAuley. He always wanted to be a Jedi!

Camille Tavares née Bayada

Mrs Tavares was born and raised in Orange along with her six brothers and six sisters. She studied teaching in Bathurst. Her first three years teaching were in Cootamundra, followed by a year at Pambula Beach. Alt-hough living the life in a beautiful coastal village, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to return home and so accepted a position at St Joseph’s in Orange, followed by a year in Blayney and then six wonderful years at Catherine McAuley. Mrs Tavares is married with two children who attend school at McAuley, her idea of the perfect afternoon is sitting on the verandah with family, sipping on a cup of tea and munching on a São with cheese and tomato!

Rebecca Hughes Nee Wilson

Rebecca grew up on a farm near Canowindra with her parents and 3 sisters. She studied at New-castle University and moved to Old Bar where she had her first teaching position and has now moved back to the Central West. Rebecca's favourite things to do include playing piano, learning guitar, dining out, spending time with friends and partaking in retail therapy. She loves podcasts, documentaries and stand up comedy.

Kate Wright Mrs Wright was born and raised in Dubbo where she attended Catholic primary and high schools. She com-pleted an Education degree at CSU Bathurst. Mrs Wright’s first teaching job was at Holy Family in Bathurst for 3 years. After that she moved to the ‘Big Smoke’ and taught at St Cecilia’s Primary School in Balgowlah. Mrs Wright then headed north to ‘Summer Bay’ or Avalon, on the Northern Beaches, where she taught for 7 years. It was here that she met her husband (who was the guitar teacher) and went on to get married and start a family. They did decide to spend a year house-sitting, which led to 14 moves in 13 months, with a newborn in tow....not something she’d recommend. (The house-sit, not the child.) They decided to make a tree-change to the Central West in 2014 (after the arrival of child #2) and not long after, took up a part-time position at Catherine McAuley. Mrs Wright loves teaching and she is grateful everyday for the blessings in her life. Robbie Mortimer

Mr Mortimer was born and raised on a vineyard just outside of Orange. He is the youngest of 5 boys (poor mum). Weekends consisted of Rugby League and work on the family farm. Mr Mortimer attended James Sheahan, until he was shipped to Stannies in Bathurst in Year 8. He moved to Brisbane the day he finished his HSC to follow a Rugby League dream with the Redcliffe Dolphins. Mr Mortimer spent 4 years in Brisbane before visiting an Indigenous community in FNQ which ultimately made him want to become a teacher. He moved home to Orange to start studying teaching and playing gigs every weekend at local pubs, clubs and weddings. Mr Mortimer has a love for music, travel, family and friends. He has travelled to many amazing places in the world such as Cuba, The Bahamas, Mexico, USA, Canada and Japan. Mr Mortimer had a great upbringing. He and his brothers were raised to have a go at anything and to love their mother.

cupcakes for your child to share with their class on their birthday. This is so that teachers are aware that

cakes will be coming in and they can then schedule a time to celebrate with the class. Please note no

chocolates or lollies are allowed. Please write ingredients (if home baked) on a piece of paper and attach

to the container. This is to avoid a child receiving food that they may be allergic to eg. Almond meal or

Nude Food Tuesdays are coming to McAuley!!

In Term 3, Nude Food Tuesday will be introduced to Catherine McAuley. If you’re

not sure what a Nude Food Tuesday is - please read the information to see why we

need to do this!!

Well done to the many children who already bring their lunches to school without

any packaging. Our aim is to make it a whole school practice. How good would it

be to eventually have a Nude Food Week! Next term, we will give recipes

and ideas on how to make it easy for parents to make this happen.
