*Donations of crayons and other children’s art materials must have this label: “Conforms to ASTM D-4236,” or similar language. This label means that the formulas of the crayons and other art materials have been reviewed by a toxicologist for chronic hazards and are labeled appropriately. Crayola is our preferred brand for crayons, markers, pencil and finger paints.
Donor Guidelines Toys are an important part of the patient care experience at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. We gratefully accept donations of new toys, stuffed animals, games and books for children of all ages. Toys are used throughout the Medical Center for comfort, play, distraction, and therapeutic programming for children and adolescents. See our toy use guidelines for further information on how Connecticut
Children’s uses toys.
For suggestions, please refer to our toy wish list which includes all our favorite things. Although we are happy to receive most anything, very large items are not easily used in a patient room. Stuffed animals must be newly purchased (within the last six weeks) and have the original store tag or box. Items should not be gift wrapped.
We gratefully accept handmade blankets and hats; however, we ask that the following be observed:
Handmade items cannot be accepted if they are made in an environment where there are pets or smokers. Blankets can be fleece (tied or sewn), quilted, knit or crocheted. Knit or crocheted baby blankets should be of a tight pattern (open patterns can catch on small fingers and toes or IV tubes). Hats can be in a variety of sizes for babies to older kids and should not have tie closures.
Please note that we do not give handmade hats to preemies (their skin is too fragile) and therefore we cannot use very small hats.
If you are planning a fundraiser to purchase toys or gift cards, please call the Foundation for specific suggestions. Cash donations are gratefully accepted and will help us to purchase specifically needed toy and distraction items. Please call the Foundation or visit our website at www.connecticutchildrensfoundation.org for the forms needed to register your toy drive or fundraiser. Donations may be dropped off in December at the Toy Warehouse, 225 Pitkin Street, East Hartford on the following dates: Dec 7,8,14, 15, 21,22 between the hours of 9am and 4pm. Smaller donations (no more than two bags or a box and a bag, please) may also be brought to the Welcome Desk at the Medical Center in Hartford.
Please call the Foundation at 860.837.5700 for more information or if you have other (non-toy) in-kind items to donate. Thank you for supporting Connecticut Children’s in this special way.
We cannot accept: • Used toys or stuffed animals.
Stuffed animals must be recently purchased (within the last six weeks) and have their original store tag or box.
