“Helping you lay the strong foundation upon which the rest of your child’s life will be built!” (Matthew 7:24-25)
A PArent’s PersPective:Pettit Private School is more than a child care facility. We have had two of our children attend PPS. One is now in 1st grade, and when he entered public school, he was well ahead of the other students in his class. PPS prepares children for their future education. Our youngest son is now in the Junior Pre-K class. He has a sense of ownership; he loves going to “his” school. He has a sense of pride and loves everything about it! Thank you, PPS, for showing respect and love for our family!

Are some students destined to struggle with mathematics because
they’re inherently “not good at math?” According to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and Sylvan Learning Center, the answer is no. A study from NCTM shows that everyone can succeed at math. Parents can help their children master math and dispel the notion that math is difficult by talking math with children as they use it in everyday activities whether it be shopping, cooking or dining out. The math experts at Sylvan Learning Center believe that by combining traditional math dril ls and memorization of math facts and formulas with real-life examples and activities, math becomes more approachable and math discovery becomes fun. Using games and activities is a great way to encourage math discovery and enhance basic skills. Sy lvan Learning Center, the leading provider of in-center tutoring to students of all ages and skill levels, off ers tips and ideas to help your children have fun and become successful at solving math problems: 1. Play popular board games that
require basic math skills. Chutes and Ladders® and RackO® develop number sense. “24” and Yahtzee® help computation speed and accuracy.
Problem solving skills are developed through games like TriOminos® and Connect Four®.
2. Review previously learned math concepts before tack l ing new assignments. Starting with familiar concepts helps build your child’s retention and confi dence.
3. Ask your child’s math teacher for a schedule of math topics. Take time to develop two projects or exercises per week that will reinforce what your child is learning in class.
4. Work with your child to solve math problems using multiple methods. This will help your child develop a fu l ler understanding of the computation concepts.
5. Provide pictorial examples of math concepts. Draw or collect pictures of animals, objects or people to show addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.
6. If your child receives an allowance, use it to formulate mathematical problems and teach him about saving. For older children, relate percentage problems to their allowance.
7. Allow your child to plan the next family trip. Help her compute miles, cost of gas and the expenses incurred for food and hotels.
8. Don’t let problems with math linger. Since math builds on previously learned concepts, it is essential to identify and address problems early so they don’t compound (to use a math term).
9. Assemble puzzles with your child.
Puzzles help children learn spatial and visual organization. ese are the basic lessons of geometry.
10. A deck of cards can be a valuable math tool. Card games begin to teach the lesson of probability and reinforce addition and subtraction memorization for children learning basic math facts.
11. Dice are helpful for younger children to practice number facts to six. If they are stumped, they can count the dots to fi nd the sum.
12. Relate math to your child’s favorite sport. Keeping score is a math exercise! Ask him to calculate the number of points needed for his favorite team to win. Encourage him to create multiple point combinations to reach that score.
All Children Can Succeed At Math Sylvan Learning Center Suggests Fun Tips To Help Children Master Math
13. Play car games like “guess my number.” This will reinforce logic skills with children of all ages.
14. Dominoes are a great game for children of all ages. Smaller children can use them to recognize similar quantities while older children can explore the concepts of probability.
15. Encourage your child to do math aloud and to explain the series of steps used to solve the problem.
16. Follow your child’s progress through her math book, tests and homework.
17. Call your local Sylvan Center and sign up for sylvan’s mathprep.com. This site offers over 700 interactive math lessons to help students with their homework. Try the f ree demonstration online at sylvanmathprep.com.

November is the month for being thankful so here is
my list.
I am thankful to live in a country where a person has the right to:

I could go on and on about the ‘Rights’ we have as Americans. But what I am most thankful for is the “Responsibility ’ we have as Americans. I am thankful for my country’s history and the
fact that being an American gives me the right to be free, stupid and irresponsible. It is because of this f reedom that I am proud to call myself an American. I do have the right to be less than I am. As an American, I can be less than what my rights say I can aspire to. As for me, I am a thankful American who chooses to live a life that speaks of hope; promise and a bright future. I am a THANKFUL AMERICAN. God Bless America. ■
Let us remember that, as much has been given
us, much will be expected from us, and that true
homage comes from the heart as well as from
the lips, and shows itself in deeds.

As the days quickly turn to the upcoming holiday
season, most families begin what I c a l l , the Holiday M a ra t h o n R a c e . H o l i d ay activities, shopping, party plans, vacation schedules, child care management arrangements, decorating, gif t wrapping, meal planning, and the list goes on and on. Often in this rush of “activity”, the meaning and purpose of the holidays is swept away in a cloud of good intentions. Failing to take the time to live in the moment adds to stress and burnout for the entire family. Suddenly, the holidays are here and gone before one knows what has happened. This season’s challenge to parents and children alike
Holiday Preparations begin in the Heart
Celebrate the happiness that friends
are always giving, make every day a
holiday and celebrate just living.
Amanda Bradley
should be to slow down and enjoy the individual moments that are shared – building memor i e s o f t ime spen t together and not just the activity of the hour. In reality, the art of slowing down takes eff ort. Slowing down requires learning how to use, and then practicing, the magic of the word “No”. Slowing down is a choice. Often, this choice is difficult and misunderstood. But the reality is, activity does not necessarily equate to enjoyment and pleasure and joy. For holidays to become less stress inducing, control must be exercised. Try to plan activities that involve the family together. Simple things are often the best. Last holiday season,
my family and I (including four grandchildren) planned “memory making” evenings. We choose a night each week for the whole holiday season and created activities that could be shared together. We made popcorn and strung garlands for the birds. We toasted marshmallows and hot dogs in the fireplace. We made paper chains for the tree at Christmas on which we had written phrases describing what we were thankful for. We made spice balls with oranges and cloves to hang in the house. We even spent one night writing out our individual memories of the holidays and reading them aloud. We read the Christmas S tor y together. We made Christmas cards for each other
– to match the personality of the receiver. Oh, we also turned the television off !I guess you could say, we enjoyed the gift of each other. Nothing we did cost much money. But everything we shared was priceless. Holiday preparations do begin in the heart. They begin with the decision to “gift” your time and attention to family and friends. Actually, this is the gift that keeps on giving. Nothing is more loving and personal than the gift of yourself and your heart and your time. Can you recall all the toys and gifts of your childhood or do you remember who you spent the holidays with? Happy Holidays! Begin a memory of the most valuable gift – You! ■

The ho l iday s ea son i s here! How do you avoid
hol iday s t ress and create h a p p y c e l e b r a t i o n s a n d wonderful memories? e key is preparation! Prepare your calendar Carefully consider your calendar and what holiday events are realistic to add to your schedule. Choose activities that are most important to you fi rst, and then add other options as time permits. Remember, an over loaded schedule is guaranteed to create stress. Prepare your budget Be realistic about what you can comfortably spend for gifts, decorations, meals and holiday events. Challenge yourself to make this holiday season credit free! If you do, you will ring in 2010 with joy. Prepare your decorations Schedule one of your
holiday events as the day you decorate. Involve the entire family, play your favor ite holiday music and enjoy a festive meal. is is a great way to usher in the holiday season and create wonderful family memories. Prepare your menus Plan your meals and shop in advance. This will ensure you have the items you need on hand so you are not rushing to the store at the last minute, saving you time and money. How often do you run to the store to pick up just one item and leave with several extra that caught your eye? Prepare your guest list For those events you are hosting, it is best to select your guests and send your invitations out early. Remember, everyone is faced with balancing their schedule at this time of year.
For those events you are invited to attend, please R.S.V.P. promptly! It is an honor to be invited to any event and absolutely thoughtless to not R.S.V.P. If you are unable to attend the event, simply thank your host and let them know you have another commitment. If you said you will attend, then you must – unless there is a dire emergency. If there is, please call your host promptly and let them know. To say you will attend and then be a no-show is simply rude. Prepare your gifts Select gifts based on your budget, relationship and desire - not pressure or guilt. e best gifts are often the most simple. Gifts should be personal - people may appreciate a gift card but no one ever forgets a gift selected just for them.
Prepare your attitude Stress and fatigue make it diffi cult to maintain a positive attitude. Eat healthy meals, get enough rest, exercise and keep a stress free schedule. A good attitude is far more enjoyable than a perfectly set table and beautiful meal served by a cranky person.Prepare your memories Find a way to record the holidays. Take photos, videos, scrapbook, or keep a journal. Pause often and really take in the moments.Prepare your thank you Purchase a box of thank you cards in advance so you are prepared. Don’t forget the stamps! Look for opportunities to express gratitude to others. ere is no better way to end the year and usher in a new one. ■

Wise County 4-H News
New ideas are welcomed in 4-H!By Remi Swensson
Remi Swensson is a Wise County 4-Her and serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Wise County 4-H Council. She is the 4th generation in her family to participate in 4-H.
As many of you know, Fall and the start of school is a busy time.
For people involved in 4-H it is also a busy time. Each Fall we organize our community and project clubs and make plans for our year in 4-H. We also have many Fall activities related to National 4-H week and participate in many local festivals and events. is Fall is off to a great start with all our 4-H activities and I am looking forward to all my projects, especially, my new projects. 4-H encourages us to learn as much about a project area as possible to share with others and become leaders for younger members to follow. It is also important to try new projects once in a while. I’d like to share a little about one of the new projects a person could participate in through 4-H.
It is pretty easy to get comfortable in projects we take every year because we know the routine, however, 4-H’ers are challenged to grow and try new projects and learn about new things. I’m learning about beef cattle this year. I’ve already learned a lot about my heifers including that each heifer has her own personality. anks to some older more experienced youth and their Mom, I learned how to work with my heifers to get them ready to show. There are lots of things I’ll be able to share with others about my heifers as I learn more, and not just grooming and showing, but health care and nutrition. anks to one newly emphasized project in 4-H I could do some serious investigation about cattle. All across the United States and
especially here in Texas, our 4-H programs are emphasizing Science and Technology. is 4-H year at our 4-H Round Up we will have a new competition called Discover Scientifi c Method: Science, Engineering & Technology Poster Competition – is competition challenges youth to use the scientifi c method as they plan and put together a research based project. e participants may choose f rom seven different categories but all projects must be approved by their county Extension agent. Posters will be scored on the following criteria: innovation/uniqueness of idea, poster presentation, oral overview, interview and response to questions, and Notebook. We are lucky in Wise County to have a person who has volunteered to lead all those
interested in participating in this project. If I wanted to I could design a project on something to do with my heifers. Now that would really be tying together two new projects! We have lots to look forward to this year in 4-H. I’ll be sharing more about some of the new projects in upcoming articles. If you have any questions about 4-H please contact our County Extension Offi ce at 940-627-3341. ■

Holidays are just around the corner and the stores are already
pushing for Thanksgiving dinner and the Christmas Holiday sales. However you get ready for the Holidays, this year remember those that might not look at Holidays as f riendly as you do. Economic times are hard for many this holiday season and remembering those less fortunate than ourselves is a great way to remind ourselves and little impressionable eyes that watch us how we can pass this Holiday Spirit on. Here are a few tips for getting ready for the Holidays and Helping at the Same Time.
TOP TEN COUNTDOWN!10: Remember clothes, coats and shoes
that kids have outgrown may benefi t someone else. Plus cleaning the closets makes room for those new gifts!
Getting Ready for the Holidays:
9: Seeking a student or young adult to help with decorating or odd jobs. Gives them some spending money and helps you at the same time.
8: Do a few home repairs that have been put on the back burner. Fixing those small things now may help save you Big later.
7. Don’t forget to take stock of your budget; the Holidays are to celebrate not break the bank.
6. Writing notes this season: it is a great way to let those you have not spoke to in a while know they are on your mind! Send a school picture to old friends and wish them a good Holiday before the season gets you too busy!
5. Men and Women fight and die every day for our safety: keep those organizations and heroes on your list.
4. Make a list of things that you and your family REALY THINK ARE IMPORTANT. Don’t stray f rom the list– keep YOUR holidays YOURS!
3. Our older generations are not to be left out. Call and seek one of those wonderful recipes for your Holiday cooking. You may end up with a great dish and make someone’s day in the process.
2. Let your children, young or old come up with new ideas to help celebrate! You may be surprised at what they DREAM up!

HISTORYWise By Rosalie Gregg, Executive Director, Wise County Historical Society, Inc.
Rosalie Gregg was born near Hayden, New Mexico. Her parents were from Wise County and moved back to Texas in 1933 to take over the property owned by their pioneer family. Ms. Gregg graduated from Paradise High School and from Decatur Baptist College. She married Robert Nolen Gregg, Jr., who had been a Prisoner of War for 3-1/2 year during which time he helped build the railroad that led to the Bridge over the River Kwai in Thailand. Ms. Gregg has been involved with the Wise County Heritage Museum since its inception in 1967. She has four daughters. Three of her daughters teach in Wise County, the other lives near Uvalde, Texas.
With their capture on Java a saga of forty two
months of pain and suffering for the members of the 131st Field Artillery began. When the sur vivors of the USS Houston reached shore they had no clothing, etc., our men shared their possesions with those less fortunate. A bond closer than brothers was forged between these men who spent three and one half years of humiliation, deprivation, mental abuse and horrible tropical diseases with no medication. It was tough seeing friends die, not being able to help them, or to communicate with their families. ey told of being packed in ships holds like cattle wtih no food, water or sanitary facilities, of building road beds by hand with primitive tools. Building a railroad that English engineers said they could not build with their sophisticated tools. That railroad is now known as “The Burma-Siam Railroad,” with a death for every cross-tie. One member of Japanese descent was sent to Japan to work on the docks
THE LOST BATTALION (part 2)
and in the coal mines. He was offered a commission in the Japanese army, and various other things, he refused, telling them he was “An American”. He kept a diary and drawings of things he saw happen, we have both his book and samples of his drawings in the Wise County Heritage Museum Lost Battalion Room. Had his diary or drawings been found, he would have been killed. Just before work began on the railroad, the Japanese offi cer in charge told the men that a railroad would be built b the POWs and that it would be build over their dead bodies. Of the men of the 131st Field Artillery, 133 died working on that railroad. The Americans are an ingeneous sort, they learned to hide items. A doctor’s wife hid her rings in a bar of soap. Some articles were hidden in a baseball. Stealing food became a way of life, they could hide food and the Japanese could not find it. They made their shoes out of old tires, or wood, when theirs wore out. There was a Dutch doctor, Henri
Hekking, who knew what plants they could eat that would keep them alive. Although he could not speak English in the beginning, he was fluent in many other languages and soon learned English. He liked the Americans and worked with them as much as he could. He was so well liked by the American POWs that at various times got enough money together for him to bring his family from Holland to visit. As for sharing, one member was at the point of death, he told one person that if he could get one spoonful of sweetened condensed milk down him he would live. He was given that can of milk by one who had been saving it for future need. e man ilved and was teacher in Austin for many years. People would tel l one mother in Decatur that her son would not come home. She would say, “ I would know.” He would write her from Brownwood, there were no country telephones at that time, telling her he would not be home on a certain week-end. Something would happen
and he could get home. She would be waiting on the square in Decatur, with his car. She had ESP!! One offi cer’s wife in Wichita Falls knew the guys had landed in Java, because her husband called her when they arrived. Our government told her we had no-one in the area. Strange, they knew where to find them when the war was over. Red Cross packages were sent to the POW camps, but the fellows saw very little of them. The Japanese made it very clear they enjoyed these packages very much! ey were issued one item of clothing, called a G-String. Not very warm during monsoon season. Their houseing was made of bamboo, and they learned to cook with bamboo. Sometimes someone wojld find enough items to made what they called a “bootleg radio.” They were told we were losing the war, but they knew we were not. The Japanese had their guns pointed toward the POWs and their orders were to shoot all prisoners if there should be surface invasion of Japan. ■

Your Library By Cecilia Hurt Barham
Cecilia Barham was born to be a librarian. She began reading when she was three and was a library aide in elementary school. After earning a Master’s degree in English, she fi nally realized her true calling and continued her education to become a librarian. She has worked in both academic and public libraries and has found her home at the Decatur Library, where she serves as Library Director. She is professionally active and currently serves as the president of the North Texas Library Consortium and chair-elect of the Public Libraries Division of the Texas Library Association. When she is not working she likes to volunteer, spend time with her husband and fi ve furry children and, of course, read! She may be contacted at [email protected].
It seems as if the holiday season approaches more quickly each year.
Here in the library it is as if we begin planning our holiday programs as soon as Summer Reading Club has ended. e holiday season brings with it a many new books that are a perfect distraction f rom the hectic holiday season. is year’s holiday releases that readers will be watching for include new releases by Barbara Delinsky, Julie Garwood, Kay Hooper, John Lescroart, Anne Tyler, Stuart Woods and W.E.B. Griffi n. Readers will also be watching for Richard Evan’s holiday release for this year, A Christmas List. ere are also many holiday-themed mysteries that come out each season, this year’s include Janet Evanovich’s Between the Plums that will include three of the Stephanie Plum holiday mystery books: Visions of Sugar Plums, Plum Lovin’ and Plum Lucky in one collection and Joanne Fluke’s Plum Pudding Murder. For the children there is a picture book adaptation of e Christmas Sweater and a new Fancy
Nancy book, Splendiferous Christmas. ere are also so many events to attend and the library has their share of these, as well. We have our annual Christmas with Santa, our Friends of the Library Social with live performances, our Book Lover’s Social sponsored by the library’s book club and special events and story t imes throughout November and December. is time of year there are so many books to read, so many things to do. Each year it seems that the holiday decorations are out in the stores a bit sooner and the commercials for toys and games and all the things we need for Christmas begin to air a little earlier and with these things we get that feeling – the Christmas rush. It is the feeling that it is time to start hurrying and worrying about all that needs to be done and bought and decorated and baked and wrapped and sent and so on. Yet, most of us would agree that the true purpose of the holidays are to give thanks, celebrate our faiths and spend time with family
and loved ones. So, how can the library assist you in these quests? We can help you to find creative ways of spending holiday time with family by providing you with holiday craft books for adults, children and families that can bring you together to create Christmas cards, holiday decorations and scrapbooks. ere are also books at your library related to holiday preparations such as holiday cookbooks and craft books on how to make your own Christmas cards. We have Christmas classics that can be read and shared with the whole family, such as A Christmas Carol, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, e Night Before Christmas (in Texas, at Is!) or e Polar Express, just to name a few. Additionally, the library has a large collection of holiday videos and DVDs that we put out in early November each year. So stop by your library for new books and movies or holiday classics that you can share with family and loved ones. ■

Laying Down The Law By James M. Stainton
After seven years in private practice, James Stainton took office as the Wise County Attorney in January 2009. James works with the Wise County Teen Court and Wise County Domestic Violence Task Force and believes that only through involvement and action can we make a difference in our community.
After seven years in private practice,
I have been read ing the headlines lately and it seems
that this Thanksgiving there is absolutely nothing to be thankful for. According to the mainstream media:1. The economy is bad and
getting worse;2. The rate of unemployment
continues to climb;3. Crime rates are going up;4. More and more teens are
getting pregnant;5. The government is bailing
out failing companies to the tune of billions of dollars;
And on and on and on…. So I guess I should call the family and tell them that anksgiving is canceled, right? Well, before I make a decision, maybe we should compare our country with the rest of the world to see if we should be thankful for anything at all this year. After careful review, I think there are a couple of “small” things that we can be
anksgiving is canceled!!thankful for this year despite what the media tells us. O u r e c o n o m y v. t h e rest of the world. There are some areas o f the wor ld where unemployment is over 30%. In many third world countries, the only industry is war, destruction, and death. Although our economy has its issues right now, we continue to have a very high quality of life, excellent public schools, and opportunities for economic advancement. Ok, starting to feel thankful here….. With the invention of the internet and the increase in access to information, it sometimes appears that we are inundated with cr ime. Every time we pick up the paper or turn on the TV, we see multiple reports of horrible crimes. However, statistics show that the violent crime rate continues to drop in most places across the US.
Appearances can be deceiving. I feel thankful that when I look around my neighborhood, I don’t see soldiers or folks with guns patrolling. I feel thankful that we can drive without restrictions between the states and that we feel safe in our homes and workplace. I am getting just a tad more thankful here…not there yet. S ome f o l k s con t inue to be bogged down with feelings of despair about our government and how the current adminis t rat ion i s handling things. While I agree that things are not perfect, we continue to have the only work ing t r ue democr ac y the world has ever known. We continue to work under the Constitution and Bil l of Rights that, among other things, prevents unwanted government intrusion, places regulations on government activities, and details how the
justice system should work Try that in Sudan, Somalia, or our neighbor to the South. Now I am warming up to being thankful this year…. ese are just three things that make me feel thankful when I wake up every morning in our United States. ere are so many more and I challenge you to think up one or two more on your own. It took me a little while to get fi red up and get my thankful rolling, but in the time it took me to write this article, I have concluded that maybe we shouldn’t cancel Thanksgiving just yet. Compared to many people around the world, we have it pretty good here, so maybe this year we should be wary of the economy, crime, teen pregnancy, and unemployment, but we should not let it dominate our lives. So as you prepare for the holidays in what might be a lean economic year, just
remember that your glass of freedom and liberty is still more than half full. While you are at it, take a couple of minutes to say a prayer for veterans, past and present, as they are the reason why your glass stays that way. Hope your holiday season is special this year. See you next month. ■

Heartstrings by Glenn Walker
Beginning at the tender age of four Glenn entered the music business with a weekly radio show. He moved on to television, recording and performing in live venues ranging from Sunday morning church service to opening for Grand Ole Opry stars. Glenn and his wife Leesa moved from Las Vegas, Nevada to Decatur, Texas in July of 2000. He began teaching in 2005 and recently opened Decatur Music.

Yep, consumer education is my mission this month. I’ve seen it
happen too many times to let it continue without a warning. You have a person that you love dearly and Christmas is coming up so you want to do something really nice for them. In the past they have spoken passionately about wanting to learn to play guitar. You come up with an idea for the perfect gift for them, a new guitar! No doubt about it, it is a marvelous idea. You feel good about your decision but knowing little or nothing about them, you have a daunting task ahead of you. You go to a huge music store in the metroplex and are greeted by an odd looking character in a tee shirt with the name of an obscure heavy metal band on the front. When he learns that you want to buy a guitar for a beginning guitarist. He usually will point you in the direction of some shiny instruments, and then will exit the scene at the speed of light, never to be seen by you again. You look around until the volume of guitars, basses and drums drives you
e truth about GSO’s... where they come from and why you shouldn’t buy one!
back thru the doors into the parking lot. Your ears are still ringing when you awaken the next morning but, never mind that, YOU STILL DON’T HAVE A GUITAR! Your next adventure takes place in Everything-mart. You know the place, groceries, shoes, clothing, tires, batteries, plants, fertilizer, craft supplies, drugs, electronics, and toys. Yep, they’re in the toy department. ey have a large supply on hand because they know that not everyone has bought one yet. e packaging is colorful, with cool pictures and the text looks promising. Something isn’t right though. You’re still not convinced that this is the right decision. Perhaps a used one that’s in new condition would be better? What to do, what to do? Garage sales, yeah, that’s a good idea. After all you’ve heard so many stories about people who picked up a 1901 UmptyFratz worth $5M at a garage sale, and they only paid 20 bucks. You don’t have much time left so you finally decide to go with ...
____(Fill in the blank). You don’t know it yet but you have spent good money on a bundle of wood and metal that defi es all attempts to get it in tune. e strings will be too diffi cult to hold down to make anything that even resembles music. And the recipient of this Guitar Shaped Object will rue it’s existence, and tell stories of bloody fingers and the horror of their GSO. I have never had student complain that their guitar stayed in tune too well and didn’t hurt their fi ngers enough. A good guitar cost a little more than your typical GSO, but will be a better gift in the long run. Need more information on buying a suitable guitar? Visit www.decaturmusic.com. ■

Dear Dave, Do you recommend paying off credit card balances before or after you close the accounts?— Anonymous
Dear Anonymous, Either way is fine. The point is to get rid of them, and stop using the stupid things! I like the idea and the fi nality of going ahead and closing the accounts, but doing that will sometimes
spur credit card companies to do dumb, unfair things—like jack up the interest rates. You’re on the right track, though. Personal fi nance is 80 percent behavior, and getting credit cards and credit card debt out of your life is a great fi rst step in learning to behave with your money. You don’t build wealth or save money by using credit cards, and you’re naïve if you think you’re going to play around with a multi-billion-dollar industry
and beat them at their own game. e only way to win against credit card companies is by refusing to play!—Dave
Dear Dave, You talk a lot about delaying gratifi cation in order to attain what you really want. is is such a diffi cult thing to do. What techniques do you use to make this happen?Anonymous
Dear Anonymous, You’re right, it is hard. Sometimes it’s very diffi cult to push away from that second piece of pie or get up off your tail and exercise. But learning to delay pleasure is part of the process when it comes to growing up emotionally. I think when you’ve practiced it long enough your mind begins to grasp
the concept that what’s waiting down the road is much better than whatever happens to be sitting in front of you at the moment. I didn’t want to get up and run this morning, but I know that I look and feel better when I do my roadwork. at’s why I made myself get out of bed early and run three miles. The whole process has to start in the brain, and drop from there to the heart, where it promotes understanding and mature actions. So really, it ’s an intellectual behavior that affects will. You have to logically and intellectually grasp the concept, then think about where you’re going and where you’ll end up as a result of your actions!— Dave
