Workshop Registration Information Workshops are approved for training credit by the MSDE Office of Child Care Credentialing Branch

Registration. All workshop participants must pre-register –NO EXCEPTIONS. Participants are required to register and pay for workshops in advance. Registration is accepted by phone, mail or in person. The training line for phone-in registration is operational from 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday. Visa or MasterCard required for all registrations done by phone. Mail registration form to Child Care Links of Harford/Cecil Counties 2105 Laurel Bush Rd., Suite 105, Bel Air, MD 21015. Child Care Links does not accept personal checks. Fees Paid are NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you miss a workshop, credit or transfer to another workshop may be given if Child Care Links is notified at least 24 hours prior to the workshop. If after hours, please leave a message on Child Care Links’ answering service. No credit or refunds are issued for “No Shows”. Call 443-512-0462 with any questions or concerns about our refund or credit policies. Any credits issued are good for one year from the date of issue. Late Arrivals. Workshops begin at stated time. Our instructors reserve the right to refuse admittance to any workshop for any participant arriving 15 minutes or more past the start of the workshop. Credit or transfer will be issued at the discretion of the Child Care Links staff for any participant turned away from training for lateness. Cancellation or change policy. Child Care Links may need to cancel a workshop due to lack of enrollment; in this event, a CCL staff member will contact you at the phone number or address you provided upon registration. If we need to cancel a workshop and you do not wish to be transferred to another training, you will be issued credit good for one year or refunded fees paid for the canceled workshop. If you are phoning in your registration please verify that we have the correct contact information, including more than one telephone number where you can be reached. Rude and/or disrespectful behavior during workshop will not be tolerated. Please remember to exercise good judgment and respect for both the trainer and other participants in your session. Core of Knowledge certificates will be issued at the conclusion of the training session for all participants who successfully complete all requirements set forth for the course. Child care is not provided during workshops. Workshops provided by Child Care Links are intended for adults only. Please make other arrangements for care of your children during workshop hours. Workshop locations. Child Care Links has two locations where we offer trainings. One location is at our main office on 2105 Laurel Bush Rd. Suite 105 Bel Air, MD 21015. The second location is at the YMCA of Elkton on 25 YMCA Blvd. Elkton, Md. 21921. If you need directions to either locations please let us know upon registering for the trainings. Inclement Weather - Please note that the training department of Child Care Links follows Harford & Cecil Counties Public School Weather Policy for closings and delayed openings. If you are scheduled for a workshop and Harford or Cecil County Schools close for inclement weather, our workshop will be canceled. During the weekend our workshops will be canceled if Parks and Rec. cancels school activities. If, for any reason, this changes, a CCL staff member will contact you. Attempts will be made to reschedule any canceled workshop.

6 - Thinking Outside the Box (After School Activities) (CU, HSN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - Learn how to think "Outside the Box" when planning lessons for school aged children. We will integrate literacy, science, math problem solving, art, music, fitness and nutrition activities during this interactive workshop. In addition, we will discuss the basics of STEM education and engages in STEM activities. 7 - I Don’t Feel So Good: Childhood Illnesses (HSN) 6pm-9pm - $25 Understand common childhood illnesses by learning symptoms, treatments, when it’s necessary to call the doctor, and how to problem solve while keeping your cool. Expand your knowledge base by learning practical techniques for providing safe care to infants and children. 9 - Working with Mixed Ages (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 This workshop is designed to help caregivers identify and address the challenges of working with mixed age groups of children. Strategies for meeting and understanding the needs of all individuals in the group will be offered. 11 - Medication Administration (HSN) 9am-3pm - $60 Newly approved Office of Child Care training teaches all aspects of giving medication safely in your center to all ages of children. This includes liquids, pills, capsules, topical, epi-pens and also general information on inhalers. You will even learn how to properly wash your hands. 13 - Encouraging Language and Literacy from the Dollar Store (CU) 6pm-9pm - $15 - Do you love shopping at the Dollar Store? If you answered YES, then this workshop is for you. You will learn how to use items found at the dollar store to engage children in activities to enhance language and literacy in your program. 14 - MMSR Module 1 (CD,CU,P) 6pm-9pm - $30 - Participants will define what school readiness means in Maryland, also define and identify attributes of culture. You will identify components of developmentally appropriate practices, will learn to match standards, domains of learning, and components of DAP. Must take class on 1/16. 16 - MMSR Module 1 (CD,CU,P) 6pm-9pm - $0 - Participants will define what school readiness means in Maryland, also define and identify attributes of culture. They will apply the Inquiry Model of Assessment to observations of young children, will sort fact from interpretation and identify strategies for building relationships with families. Must take class on 1/28. 22 - Bridging the Gap Between Home and School (CO) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - This class is designed to help participants understand the concept of building partnerships with families, discuss barriers to forming partnerships, and identify strategies for overcoming barriers and creating effective partnerships. 24 - Pre-Service Mod # 3 Keeping Kids Fit & Safe (HSN) 8:30am-12:30pm - $35 -Specific focus of this class is centered upon components of emergency preparedness, menu planning, and health & safety concerns of young children. 24 - Pre-Service Mod #4 Making it Work for All-Exploring Special Needs (SN) 1pm-5pm - $35 - This class will include basic information surrounding inclusive child care settings, ADA requirements in health, behavioral and developmental issues and concerns. 25 - Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9am-3pm - $30 - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child care programs. Participants will complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their child care programs; gain an understanding of disasters that are not likely to occur in Maryland and know why their programs should prepare for emergencies and disasters. This workshop meets the 6 hour COMAR requirement for child care centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

27 - I See a Rainbow (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - Learning about color is more than just naming and identifying. It will give parents and daycare providers tips on how to make the transition from the diaper to the toilet a successful task with little stress 31 - Pre-Service Mod # 5 Keeping it Real! Professional Practices for a Successful Program (P) 8:30am-12:30pm - $35 This workshop will give providers the opportunity to explore and understand the importance of specific concepts and practices that may lay foundation for a successful program including supervision , marketing, abuse and neglect, contracts, appropriate guidance policies and procedures, record keeping and handbooks. 31 - Pre-Service Mod #6 Planting the Seed-Developing Connections with the World Around Us (CO) 1pm-5pm - $35 This workshop will provide an overview and focus of the importance of developing and maintaining relationships with children’s families and the larger community. 1 - MMSR Module 3 - (CD, CU, SN, P) 9am-3pm - $30 - Participants will identify strategies to support dual language learners and will identify strategies to make families feel welcome. They will analyze and apply steps in the Inquiry Model of Assessment and will describe the steps toward reflective practice. 3 - More than Magnets (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - At heart, every young child is a scientist, seeking explanations for each new phenomenon. Participants will learn a variety of strategies and activities to provider for children of all ages, including those with special needs, to encourage scientific thinking and exploration, and recognize that science is more than just magnets! 4 - 90 Hour Young Child: Growth & Development/Methods & Materials 6:30pm-9:30pm - $500 (Includes a $150 Non-refundable deposit) Note: this class meets every Tuesday and Thursday for 15 weeks - Designed to satisfy the 90 hour requirement as stated in COMAR 07.04.01 for directors and child care preschool teachers (formerly called senior staff) in a group child care centers. Course provides student in-depth view of the child, who he/she is, the individual needs and how child care teachers can help. In-class sessions will cover opportunities to observe and work with children, identifying developmentally appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, activities and the daily operations of a child care center. This class begins February 4, 2014 and ends on May 15, 2014. 5 - Fun Circle Time Activities (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 Get ready to have some fun! Join us for circle time! This is a special time in every program when you gather around with your children and share stories, songs, games, finger plays and whatever fun activity that comes to mind. 7 - SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) 9:30am-11:30am - $20 In this workshop you will learn about safe sleep environments to help reduce the risk for SIDS and other infant death. 8 - Medication Administration (HSN) 9am-3:00pm - $60 Newly approved Office of Child Care training teaches all aspects of giving medication safely in your center to all ages of children. This includes liquids, pills, capsules, topical, epi-pens and also general information on inhalers. You will even learn how to properly wash your hands. (Location of training is 11 Calvert Rd, Intersection of Biggs Hwy and Calvert Rd)

Join us to learn more about The Maryland Child Care Credential program that recognizes child care providers who go beyond the minimum requirements of state licensing and registration regulations. Come learn about the six levels and how to get a bonus check for each. 12 - Child Abuse and Neglect (HSN) 6pm-9pm - $25 This course will help you identify signs and symptoms of various types of child abuse and neglect. You will also learn appropriate responses and reporting expectations according to Federal Law. We will discuss real life examples of both abuse and neglect and discuss reasons this is so prevalent in our society. 15 - MMSR Module 4 - (CD, CU, SN, P, CO) 9am-3pm - $30 Participants will identify strategies for working with colleagues and will analyze and apply steps to implement the Inquiry Model of Assessment. Participants will identify strategies for communicating with families and will compare and organize portfolio components. 18 - Understanding Bullying Behavior (SN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - This course will provide partici-pants with an understanding of why children become bul-lies and victims. Participants will learn proactive strategies for dealing with bullies and getting victims to open up as well as designing a policy regarding bullying behaviors. 19 - Building a Child’s Self Esteem (CD) 6pm-9pm - $25 Learn the principles of self-esteem and how to recognize children’s feelings. How do we enhance a child’s self-esteem?

22 - Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9am-3pm -$30 - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child care programs. This is just a wee sampling of activities planned for this class. 26 - CPR 6pm-9pm – $35 – This workshop is designed for providers and parents of young children. March 2014 Course Descriptions

1 - MMSR Module 5 - (CU,SN, P, CO) 9am-3pm - $35 Participants will analyze ways in which the environment influences a child’s behavior and will analyze ways in which personal beliefs influence relationships. Participants will identify strategies for effectively communicating with families and will develop strategies for supporting smooth transitions. 3 - Keeping it Professional - (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 As a child care professional, you are required to possess a large body of training that helps you sustain a quality program. Your programs are monitored and regulated by the Office of Child Care. you are held to a high standard of providing quality care. This workshop is designed to give you professional strategies to better manage your family child care program. 3 - Fun with Water & Ice - (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 Children love to play with water! In this workshop we will explore the changing properties of water and show you how to liven up your science curriculum by exploring simple science concepts. Come ready to walk out with great ideas to bring back to your program. 5 - Creating Sociable Children - (CD) 6pm-9pm - $25 This course is designed to discuss reasons why children may be less socialized in today’s society. Discuss barriers to socialization. Learn age appropriate methods and activities to help students learn manners, social skills and conflict resolution skills. 8 - Medication Administration (HSN) 9am-3pm - $60 *Limit 10 * Newly approved Office of Child Care training teaches all aspects of giving medication safely in your center to all ages of children. This includes liquids, pills, capsules, topicals, epi-pens and also general information on inhalers. You will even learn how to properly wash your hands. 10 - Anger Management (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 This workshop is designed to help participants determine what triggers anger and develop strategies to keep those trig-gers from tipping us over the edge. This session will focus on the communication process as a whole and how positive communication can be used in managing anger.

12 - Business Administration Scale (BAS) (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm $ 30 - The BAS for Family Child Care is the first valid and reliable tool for measuring and improving the overall quality of business and professional practices in family child care settings. It is applicable for multiple uses, including program self-improvement, technical assistance and monitoring, training, research and evaluation, and public awareness. The BAS is designed to complement the widely used Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale-Revised (FCCERS-R). When used together, they provide a comprehensive picture of the quality of the family child care learning environment and the business practices that support the program . 15 - Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN,P) 9am-3pm $30 - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child care programs. Participants will complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their child care programs; gain an understanding of disasters that are not likely to occur in Maryland and know why their programs should prepare for emergencies and disasters. This workshop meets the 6 hour COMAR requirement for child care centers, family providers, and family child care applicants. (Location of training is 11 Calvert Rd, Intersection of Biggs Hwy and Calvert Rd). 19 - Beautiful Stuff (CU) 6:30pn-9:30pm - $25 - This workshop is designed to help participants determine what triggers anger and develop strategies to keep those triggers from tipping us over the edge. This session will focus on the communication process as a whole and how positive communication can be used in managing anger. 22 - First Aid & CPR 8:30am-5pm - $60 Both/$35 CPR/$35 First Aid - This workshop is designed for providers and parents of young children. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. First Aid Certificate expires in 2 yrs from date of issue. CPR certificate expires in 2 yrs from date of issue.

24 - Basic Sign Language (SN) 6pm-9pm - $25 This workshop will help individuals in the use of basic sign language for immediate communication and/or the preparation for teaching children. 24 - Childhood Depression ~ Turn that Frown Upside Down (SN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - This workshop is designed to teach you the signs and symptoms of depression in children, and how to deal with it in a child care setting. 26 - Footsteps to Fitness – Helping Children Achieve and Maintain Fitness (HSN) 6pm-9pm - $15 - Approximately12.5 million of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese, putting them at risk for adult health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke. Parents and caregivers are essential influences when it comes to the nutrition, physical activity and health needs of children. Use the techniques in this class to help make healthy living fun! 31 - Working with Mixed Ages (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 This workshop is designed to help caregivers identify and address the challenges of working with mixed age groups of children. Strategies for meeting and understanding the needs of all individuals in the group will be offered.
