WINTER HAIR CARE TIPS

The cool breeze may calm the soul, but it leaves the hair frizzy and unmanageable. Proper preventive steps need to be taken during this season to ensure that your hair does not get damaged.

Here are a few tips for keeping your hair healthy and gorgeous despite the unforgiving temperatures.

CONDITIONING IS A MUST

Condition your hair every time you wash it as it increases the elasticity, strength and shine of your hair.

Use cold water for the last rinse as it will lock in the moisture and seal the hair ends. Avoid going outside with wet hair. Your hair will freeze if it’s very cold outside and may even

break.

SHINE ON

Winter can strip your hair of its natural oils and leave your tresses dull and lifeless. Make sure to use a leave-in hair serum or cream. It will smoothen your hair.

Avoidance of hair dryers and curling irons during the winter months is better. But if have to use, use a leave-in conditioner.

COVER YOUR CROWN

Wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind. If you are going to be outside, especially in extreme temperatures or wind, use a silk scarf

to protect your hair. Sunlight can be as damaging in the winter as it is in the summer! Make sure that the scarf, hat or cap is not so tight that it will restrict blood circulation in your

scalp.

DO NOT SHAMPOO OFTEN

Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water. The heat can dry out and/or damage your hair and skin. Use lukewarm water instead.

Also, do not shampoo your hair too often, at least not more than twice a week so that your natural hair oils are not depleted due to excessive washing.

FIGHT BACK STATIC

Hair static is caused by lack of hair moisture. Brush with a hairbrush having natural bristles and not plastic bristles. Also, use a wide-tooth wooden comb; but, do not comb your hair when it is wet.
