Triune Being of Man“Now may the God of peacehimself make you completelyholy and may your spirit andsoul and body be kept entirelyblameless at the coming of ourLord Jesus Christ.”(1 Thess. 5:23)

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, andsharper than any two edged sword, piercing evento the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and ofthe joints and marrow (body), and is a discerner ofthe thoughts and intents of the heart.”(Hebrews 4:12)

Triune Being of Man

“outer circle the ‘Body’ is shown astouching the material worldthrough the five senses of ‘Sight,’‘Smell,’ ‘Hearing,’ ‘Taste’ and‘Touch.

“The gates to the ‘Soul’ are ‘Imagination,’ ‘Conscience,’‘Memory,’ ‘Reason’ and the ‘Affections.’

“The “Spirit” receives impressions of outward andmaterial things through the soul. The spiritual facultiesof the ‘Spirit’ are ‘Faith,’ ‘Hope,’ ‘Reverence,’ ‘Prayer’and ‘Worship.’

In his unfallen state the ‘spirit’of man was illuminated from

Heaven.

but when the human race fellin Adam, sin closed the

window of the spirit, pulleddown the curtain, and the

chamber of the spirit became adeath chamber and remains so

in every unregenerate heart

until the Life and Light givingpower of the Holy Spirit floodsthat chamber with the Life andLight giving power of the new

life in Christ Jesus.

‘spirit’ of man:‘being the sphere of God-consciousness, isthe inner or private office of man wherethe work of regeneration takes place. .‘the main theatre of the Holy Spirit’s activity inman, and the part of man’s nature with whichHe has peculiar affinity

‘It is by his spirit that the Christian both servesand worships God.

“For God is my witness, Whom I serve with myspirit in the Gospel” (Romans 1:9).“God is a spirit; and they that worship Himmust worship Him in spirit and in truth” (John4:24).

‘soul’ of man:man not only has a living soul but he is a livingsoul. .

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of theground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath oflife, and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7)

We have seen that the spirit of man is the sphereof activity where the Holy Spirit operates inregeneration.

Just so is the soul the sphere of activity whereSatan operates making his appeal to theaffections and emotions of man.

‘soul’ of man:Satan knows full well that he dominates thepsychical or the soulish man

the soul is the seat of the affections, right orwrong, of love, hate, lusts, and even the appetitesof the body

Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against thesoul (Peter 2:11).

The soul of man, that is, his affections and desires, are never directed Godward until after the spirithas become regenerated. Man can never loveGod nor the things of God until he is born fromabove.

Winning the battle on theinside is a prime

requirement for us in orderto advance in our walk with

the Lord.

2 Corin. 10:5-6 “Casting downimagination, and every high thing

that exalteth itself against theknowledge of God, and bringing

into captivity every thought to theobedience of Christ;

And having in a readiness torevenge all disobedience, when your

obedience is fulfilled.”

The story of Israel’s struggle toenter the Promised Land was

pictured as an inward battle forus today

The account of the conquest ofCanaan in the Old Testament isa picture if this inward battle.

Hebrews 3:17 “But with whomwas he grieved forty years?

was it not with them that hadsinned, whose carcasses fell in

the wilderness? 18 And towhom sware he that they

should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?”

Hebrews 4:1 “Let ustherefore fear, lest, a promisebeing left us of entering into

his rest, any of you shouldseem to come short of it.”

We have strongholds in ourmind that keep us from the

fullness of Gods purposes andpromises. These mindsets arestrongholds that keep us back

from entering our innerpromised land

Fear, doubt, unbelief, is the giant thatmost Christians carry with them to the

grave. Most Christians do not believe thatGod will take care of them. The childrenof Israel had experienced the power ofGod in the defeat of Pharaoh, they hadwitnessed God take care of them in the

wilderness, but when it came to thecrunch they failed because of unbelief.

Hebrews 4:3 For we which have believeddo enter into rest, as he said, As I have swornin my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest:although the works were finished from the

foundation of the world.

Hebrews 3:19 So we see that they couldnot enter in because of unbelief.

If we have major unresolved problems in ourlives, we need to seek to resolve them beforewe become active in external warfare.

is important to win the battle on the insidefirst before we begin to wage war externally.

We realize that we are not yet perfect, however we need to be walking in the lightand be free from major spirit based problems..

If the enemy has ground in us we will bevulnerable.

anger

fear resentment

unforgiveness jealousy pride

These things give ground for theenemy to knock us out of the battle.

Now sometimes just through obedience to Godand through dealing with these things in ourlife, you can get free..Sometimes you don’t need someone to cast itout from you. How many of you know that ifyou start starving it in your spirit, you can startruffling the cage, and that kind of wants outbecause you don’t feed it anymore.

And so we are to deal with the flesh, but theflesh gives occasion to these spirits.

The flesh opens the door to these spirits

THE FLESH OPENS THE DOOR TO THESE SPIRITS.

Grounding In The Word Of God

You need to be grounded in a good

understanding of your authority in theLord, and the legal defeat of Satan.

Don’t Be Ignorant Of Satan’sDevices

The Church today is dangerously ignorant of theschemes of the devil. Some pride

themselves in not knowing much about the

devil and his devices, saying they focus only onJesus..

Apparently the apostle Paul did not feel that way.II Corinthians 2:ll “ Lest Satan should get an

advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of hisdevices.”

In the New Testament equivalent: THELAND IS YOUR SOUL

If you are to be sensitive to the Lord and walkwith Him, your soul has to come into rest.

The incompatibility between your spirit and yoursoul sets up a tension that is very destructive interms of physical health and peace of mind.

The Bible talks a lot about the importance ofunity, but first unity must occur between our

spirit and soul.

In the New Testament equivalent: THELAND IS YOUR SOUL

Self Pity, Depression, Jealousy, Anger,Bitterness, Resentment, set up a barrier

hindering Christ in your spirit from comingthrough our soul to the outer world. Your un-

renewed mind comes into conflict with themind of Christ in you and actually becomes an

enemy of the Lord within us.

In the New Testament equivalent: THELAND IS YOUR SOUL

Romans 8:7 “Because the carnal mind (naturalmind) is enmity (an enemy) against God: for it

is not subject to the law of God, neitherindeed can be.

When there is unity between your soul andspirit, the mind of Christ can flow easily

through us.

Our will controls both our mind andemotions

Hebrews 4:3 For we which have believed doenter into rest.

God gave us a will so that we can choose ormake choices on how we are going to live.

The will must be surrendered to God and Hiswill, this is a choice that sets the rules of thegame.

Once we surrender our will to the Lord wehave to be careful to ascertain the mind or willof God and choose to follow it. This takes faithand an implicit trust in God.

Unity is first an inner quality

A competitive spirit is alien to the Kingdom ofHeaven; there is no competition in heaven.Godliness with contentment is great gain,

being content with what God has purposedfor us and seeking to attain the highest in it is

a pure motivation for advancement in theKingdom of God.

Unity is first an inner quality

We must achieve a unity or compatibilitybetween our spirit and our soul, the two mustbecome one in order for God to use us at the

level He wishes to. We must win this battle onthe inside.

Jesus clearly implies that there will beno rest to our souls until we are yoked

to Him

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come unto me, all [ye]that labour and are heavy laden, and I will

give you rest

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for Iam meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find

rest unto your souls.”

Jesus clearly implies that there will beno rest to our souls until we are yoked

to Him

Take His Yoke: His plan for you is to rest in it:The battle on the inside must come to an end,

only then will you have rest

Stop fighting for your rights, trust God, wemust die to ourselves and live unto God.

1. Understand the Purpose

God’s Battle Strategy

Romans 7:18 ”I know that nothing good lives inme, that is, in my sinful nature…”

We need to recognize that our flesh is bad andwill seek to kill us, spiritually, if we let it reign.

2. Prepare

God’s Battle Strategy

An army travels on its stomach” – a famoussaying that tells us we cannot just march intobattle and expect to win.

You need provisions and support. We prepare byreading and remembering God’s Word, comingto fellowship, praying, worshiping.

3. Perform Reconnaissance

God’s Battle Strategy

We need to survey the world that surrounds us,our universe, to be aware of what things will pullus toward the flesh, and what will urge us in thespirit.

Look out for mine fields of the flesh and avoidthem. The flesh doesn’t go away, it just goes intohiding.

4. IFF – Identify Friend or Foe

God’s Battle Strategy

Many of us think we can handle the flesh – butyou can’t change the flesh, you can only kill it.

How do you do that?

That’s why you need to be aware of what’s fleshand what’s spirit in your life..

Galatians 5:17 “For the flesh lusteth againstthe Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: andthese are contrary the one to the other: sothat ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

4. IFF – Identify Friend or Foe

God’s Battle Strategy

James 3:18 “And the fruit of righteousness issown in peace of them that make peace.”

Basically, that which brings you and others closerto God is of the spirit, those things that drive youor others away is of the flesh.

5. Keep the Communications Lines Open – andObey Your Commander’s Orders

God’s Battle Strategy

Keep praying, keep talking to God, keepfellowshipping with other believers who aregoing through the same struggles as you.

It may not feel good to do battle against theflesh, but you are just following orders.

6. Watch Your Perimeter

God’s Battle Strategy

Just when you think your life is pretty stableand the war with the flesh is over – that’swhen you need to watch what’s going on inthe perimeter of your life – your flesh, you seemay be dead, but it sure acts like it’s alive andwill strike when you least expect it.

Paul said: 1 Cor 10:12 “ So, if you think you arestanding firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”

7. Don’t wait to be attacked

God’s Battle Strategy

Don’t just sit around waiting for the flesh torear its ugly head – attack!

Ask God to reveal areas where your flesh rulesand then kill them

how?

8. Use Overwhelming Force – but not your force.

God’s Battle Strategy

Galatians2:20 “I have been crucified with Christand I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. “

The life I live in the body, I live by faith in theSon of God, who loved me and gave himselffor me.

Rely on the Spirit – ask His Spirit to fill youeach day, every day.

Then, desire God, and let Him provide whatyou need when you need it.
