VP Ramblin’

by Denny Broughel

VP Ramblin’

Well it’s May, and it’s time to blow the dust off our beautiful classic cars, and look for those pesky new oil stains on the garage floor. Checking or changing your engine oil (20-50 wt), transmission oil (30 wt), brake fluid reservoir, and radiator. Maybe you should rotate your tires, and while the wheels are off look for any leaking wheel cylinders. It would also be good the pull the brake drums and inspect the shoes or pads. May 14th is also Mother’s Day, my male friends let us not forget that date. May is also the Carlisle Import & performance car show. Carlisle is a club sponsored event, and if you’re interested in coming with the Carlisle crew please call Steve Bell for any needed information.

Now is the time to fire up our cars drive them like you stole them.

Thanks, Denny

Don’t start the driving season like this . . . . > > > > > > > >

Check your Healey, top off the fluids, charge the battery. And you won’t be the next one to start with a big bang!. .

. . Take a look at the very long calendar of events that the planning committee &

wing coordinators have dreamed up for you. Lots of fun in store—………..see page 3-5

Ladies, would you like to see more events that include fun things geared towards women? Drop our new Ladies Coordinator a line with your ideas at [email protected]. Thank You Linda, for getting this of the ground.

Nuts & Bolts Corner

If you have a particular problem you need help with, please contact Peter Sturtevant at [email protected]

This month Jim Begin, long-time member and owner of a gorgeous BT7-II, passed on a trick

you can use in case of an emergency. This was originally submitted by Denny Rawling of

Ehrenberg, AZ and published in the Farm Show Magazine.

“When a 12-volt pulsating fuel pump quits working, they generally pulse in but not release.

I figured out I could install a 12-volt turn signal flasher unit in the positive lead to the pump

and it will work again. If you want it to pump a little faster, just install a 6-volt flasher unit."

New Technical Director Peter Sturtevant will be hosting monthly technical conference calls. He and members of the Technical Committee , Bob Abbott, Steve Bell, Paul Dunnell, Rick Neville and Ted Stanton will address a great variety of subjects, all geared to help you maintain your Healey The May conference call will focus on your Healey Wheels and Tires.

Club member technical specialists will discuss your call to members to ask the experts your specific questions.

Our May conference call will be held on Monday, May 8 at 8:00PM. To join the conference call 641-715-3580 and enter the PIN 690047#. Please RSVP to Pete at [email protected] if you wish to join the call.

The Bender’s and Dunnell’s head south and west.

This month two long standing club members, Paul & Dale Dunnell and Bob & Betty Bender have moved to Arizona and the Carolina’s,

respectively.

Both have made great contributions to the club in their more than 20 years of membership and will be sorely missed.

We wish them well and hope to see them when they come back to the area.

Good luck and happy Healeying from all of us in the Club.

CLASSIC CARS FOR BELMONT TOWN DAY Saturday, May 20, 2017

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

For the last seven years, many of us have participated in a classic car display in

Belmont Center, MA. The town closes down the main street for a wonderful "Town Day" and we display our cars in "Monterey" style parking, angled to the sidewalk.

The town provides us with bagels and muffins in the morning and pizza and soda at lunch. They feed us!! The town makes beautiful souvenir signs for us with our car information that we can use at other car shows.

This year's Town Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2017.

The Belmont Town Day coordinator, VP of the Belmont Savings Bank, has asked that we again invite those of you who participated in previous years.

The number of spaces on the street is limited. RSVP RIGHT AWAY TO SHOW YOUR CAR!

Please describe your car (make, model, year, color, and cell phone for rain cancellation contact) in your email RSVP and include a picture if you can. Looking forward to seeing you there!

June 17, 2017 The “Rallye for a Cure” puts you behind the wheel of your classic sports car for a great cause!

The Connecticut Vintage and Classic Sports Car “Rallye for a Cure” is holding its third road rallye

to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Starting at Jaguar Hartford, 133

Leibert Road, Hartford, this rallye will wind its way westward through the beautiful country road of

Connecticut. The rallye will culminate at the Lime Rock Park with parade laps on the big track.

Enter as a team (driver and navigator) and enjoy a Game-Tour-Adventure (GTA) Rallye — a fun

drive with a need for a keenly observant navigator! During your drive, record information about the

route in a scavenger hunt style rallye which is fun for all ages. Enjoy the beautiful countryside while

supporting a worthy cause!

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research. Our rallye will

make a dramatic impact for the CT/MA chapter of JDRF as it moves life-altering research out of

the lab and into human clinical trials. Forbes rates JDRF a “top ten pick” for non-profit investment,

and JDRF's expenditures directly support diabetes research and research-related education.

In the past four years, the Rallye has raised over $40,000 to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research

Foundation! Please see our rallye website (http://goo.gl/U8VBmA) for further information and

registration. Join the fun at Connecticut’s 2017 “Rallye for a Cure!”

Austin Healey Clam Bake

Saturday, July 15th – 2:30 pm at the home of Amy & Carl Carvell 12 Spray Rock Rd. Weekapaug (Westerly), Rhode Island

On the morning of Carl & Amy’s Clambake, we’re meeting for a Healey Car Show at the parking lot at the Olde Mistick Village at 10:00 AM. It’s located at exit 90 off I-95, right next to the Mystic Aquarium. There are over 30 quaint shops in the walk-able village and, of course, the aquarium itself is a wonderful experience. We’ll have a popular judging while others are enjoying the area. At 1:30 PM we will caravan to the Clambake over scenic back roads to arrive by 2:00 pm at Carl & Amy’s home in Weekapaug, RI. You are welcome to attend this event whether or not you are joining the clambake. When you leave the Olde Mistick Village and Healey Car Show travel along the coast to Weekapaug for a traditional New England Clambake. Take a walk on the beach, swim or chat with friends. We will start the traditional Rhode Island bake about 4:00 pm which will give you time to get home before it is too late! The cost is $45.00 per person and includes lobster, clams, corn on the cob, sweet potato, white potato, fish and sausage.

The Clam Bake event will be limited to the first 40 people who RSVP to the Carvells.

RSVP : Please let the Carvells know if you will be coming ( see below ) and just bring your check with you.

This is a BYOB party!!!! BRING YOUR OWN BEER or WINE!!

RSVP to Amy Carvell at [email protected], Carl Carvell at [email protected]

or call them at 401-322-7741.

Directions will be available at the Olde Mistick Village.

Northshore Wing Northshore & Eastern Mass. By Coordinator: Rick Neville

Anyone with questions about Northshore Wing gatherings, may contact Rick Neville at 978-810-0963 or email [email protected]

Time for an Insurance Check-Up? You've checked your battery, tire pressures and oil level and think you're all set for the

Healey driving season. Not so fast. The twenty-five North Shore Wing members and guests at the March 25th Appraisal/Insurance Session learned that it might be a good plan to check your insurance policy, too.

According to Hagerty Classic Car Insurance agent Steven Mollohan, president of the

Georgetown (MA) Insurance Agency, dedicated classic car insurance companies can offer better coverage at lower prices than standard insurance writers. But it's important to know there are different coverages for different policies. Mollohan explained the difference between an "agreed value" and "stated value" policy, where under an agreed value policy the insurance company agrees in advance to a fixed amount the company will pay out in the event of a total loss. In a stated value policy, on the other hand, the company agrees only to the maximum it will pay out, but does not specify an amount in advance.

Another important point mentioned was the "usage exclusion clause". Even though some companies advertise "unlimited mileage," many policies contain wording to the effect that usage is limited solely for use in exhibitions, parades, club activities or other functions of public interest. According to Mollohan, Hagerty's policies do not contain such restrictions. This might be something to remember if you take your cars on Sunday drives that don't fit I into the restrictions mentioned in your policy.

Determining the amount to insure your car isn't always easy, but Tom Mannetta, Jr. of Legendary Motorcars of Beverly, MA, a trained vehicle appraiser, was on hand to offer some advice. He recommended a professional appraisal be done every 3-4 years, or even sooner in the event the market for a car is particularly hot. In addition to providing appraisals, a business such as Tom's connection to the nationwide Auto Appraisal Network can provide pre-purchase inspections and purchase assistance throughout the United States.

The meeting also showed the benefits of the Wing structure. On hand at the event at Dave

Altman's and Bob Abbott's location at Altman Distributing in Ipswich. MA were guests from several local clubs including the Jaguar Assoc. of New England, MG Club,British Car Club of NH, and even the Cadillac club.
