The Williams House at 3820 Avenue F ex h i b i t s design features drawn from the Tudor Revival s t y l e . Since i t s construction i n 1933, the house has changed l i t t l e . I t faces east onto Avenue F, standing i n a predominately r e s i d e n t i a l area j u s t south of the Hyde Park Baptist Church complex.
Of frame construction with stucco and fieldstone veneers, the house features a U-shaped plan arranged around an enclosed courtyard. The asymmetrically arranged facade i s comprised of l i v i n g and u t i l i t a r i a n wings linked by a hyphen to the rear. The southern gabled wing features wood casement windows with multi-pane glazing, while the northern wing houses a two-car garage enclosed by herringbone-patterned wooden doors. A massive stone chimney rises w i t h i n the courtyard, which separates the wings and i s enclosed by a low stone w a l l . Access to the courtyard i s gained by an arched stone gateway, upon whose keystone i s inscribed the house's address. The gentle sweep of the gable roof forms and the decorative h a l f -timbering of the gable ends enrich a picturesgue asymmetry t y p i c a l of the Tudor Revival. Decorative i n t e r i o r and e x t e r i o r features include stone and wood carvings by renowned ar t i s a n Peter Mansbendel.

Constructed i n 1933 by William Kutalek f o r W.T. and C l o t i l d e V. Williams, the house at 3820 Avenue F i s c h a r a c t e r i s t i c of the picturesgue h i s t o r i c i s t architecture of the 1920s and 1930s. With motifs drawn from the design idiom of the Tudor Revival Style, the house includes examples of work of noted l o c a l a r t i s a n Peter Mansbendel, whose residence next door at 3824 Avenue F may have provided the s t y l i s t i c impetus f o r t h i s house. The Williams House retains i t s h i s t o r i c i d e n t i t y as one of Hyde Park's most noteworthy examples of the Tudor Revival s t y l e and i s nominated f o r i t s local a r c h i t e c t u r a l significance under C r i t e r i o n C.
C l o t i l d e I . Mansbendel, daughter of Monroe M. Shipe and wife of woodcarver Peter Mansbendel, paid $1000 t o the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Land Co. f o r the north 47.4 feet of l o t 8 and a l l of l o t 9 i n the Shadow Lawn Addition on March 11, 1925 (DR 497:244). She owned the unimproved l o t s u n t i l November 13, 1933, when she sold the central 67 feet of l o t 9 t o her daughter and son-in-law, C l o t i l d e Valerie and W.T. Williams, Jr. (DR 497:245).
Two days a f t e r purchasing the property, the Williamses hired William Kutalek "to construct, erect, f i n i s h , complete and deliver i n a true, perfect and workmanlike manner a l - s t o r y stucco residence and garage. . ." f o r $5300 (DR 492:124). Kutalek had worked i n Peter Mansbendel's studio as a j o i n e r before entering the construction business (Lowman 1977: n.p.). A member of a small group of home-builders, including Wilhelm Dieter and A.H. Edburg, who often worked together i n the neighborhood, Kutalek crafted the house to r e f l e c t the high degree of craftsmanship and s e n s i t i v i t y evident i n the e a r l i e r Mansbendel House next door. The Williams family s t i l l owns the house.
