Wilcox Wildcats December 4, 2018 Reading News: Reading: This week students are learning how to find the main idea out of a non-fiction text by reading. They are utilizing subheadings to determine the main idea of a text. They also are learning to pay closer attention to the reading level of the books that they are checking out. We want to make sure that students are reading “just-right” books. Writing: This week we are continuing to draft our personal persuasive essays. Students are learning how to properly organize their body paragraphs by including their thesis statements and examples. We will also be looking at how to write our introductions for our essays as they continue the drafting process. Spelling and Grammar: PREFIXES! This week we are learning prefixes and will also be tested on these this FRIDAY. The students have a tool in their binder that they can use to study throughout the week to prepare for the quiz. They will also be using itooch and MobyMax to prepare for the test. Fluency: Due Friday! 1 Math News We will review long division today and tomorrow. Our computation test is Thursday and final test is Friday. Students benefit from reviewing the strategies at home. You can always review the lesson on the Envision website with your child. They know their password and usernames. Yellow math page due completed on Friday. If your child is not proficient in basic facts, have them practice each night. Students can always use MobyMax at home to help with this. Science/S. Studies This week is HOUR OF CODE. Students will be taking part in the national coding lessons. Reading News: Reading: This week students are learning how to find the main idea out of a non-fiction text by reading. They are utilizing subheadings to determine the main idea of a text. They also are learning to pay closer attention to the reading level of the books that they are checking out. We want to make sure that students are reading “just-right” books.
