Wilcox Wildcats December 11, 2018 Reading News: Reading: This week the students are working on figuring out the main idea in a non-fiction text. They are still working on using their three column note-taking strategies to help them record details from the text that connects to the main idea. This is a strategy that is necessary ALL year long. We have also discussed the importance of reading just right books and goal-setting as we get closer to the second MAP testing date, which is after our holiday break. Writing: This week students will be working on their introductions and conclusions. We will also be editing and revising to prepare us to publish our essays. Hopefully this week students will begin typing their persuasive essays! Spelling and Grammar: Last week we had a prefix test, this week we are focusing on suffixes. Suffixes are word parts that attach to the end of a root/base word. Students will be studying in class to prepare them for the test this FRIDAY. Fluency: Due Friday! 1 Math News Our new topic is over using operations with whole numbers. Students will compare numbers and use multi-step operations to solve problems. We will work on this unit this week and test on Tuesday Dec. 19. A study guide will come home next Monday. You can always review the lesson on the Envision website with your child.
