WIHS was established in 1993 to investigate the

impact and progression of HIV in women

WIHS clinical sites are located in nine states including:

New York; Washington, DC; California; Illinois; Florida; North Carolina; Georgia;

Alabama; and Mississippi

WIHS is funded primarily by the National Institute of Allergy and

Infectious Diseases

WIHS provides evaluation of participants’ health across several

decades of life

WIHS enrolls participants that are both HIV positive and HIV

negative

Each of WIHS’s Clinical Research Sites represents the population of

HIV-infected women within their geographical region

Atlanta WIHS focuses on HIV/AIDS secondary prevention for women through behavioral research and

clinical interventions

WIHS aims to understand the differences in HIV disease and

treatment outcomes between women compared to men, and in different

racial and ethnic groups

WIHS examines the uptake of antiretroviral medications and

predictors of successful, sustained viral suppression
