Why You Should Send Your

Kindergartner to Summer Camp

It’s almost summer and you may be debating whether or not your kindergartner is ready to head off to summer day camp with the “big kids”.

Though they may seem like babies still, kindergartners are more than ready to spend fun-filled days with playing games, making colorful crafts and meeting lots of new friends.

Following are just a few of the reasons you may want to consider packing your five- or six-year old off to a local day camp for kids.

Cool School Preview

If your youngster hasn’t yet headed off to kindergarten, summer day camp can provide a preview of the school year ahead and help him get a head start on “real school”.

Like primary school, summer day camphas structured days, rules, and lots of new classmates.

Kids learn to organize their belongings, function as a group and follow the leadership of adults other than their parents.

Day camp also gets kids ready for being away from mom and dad for a set period of time each day, and with a high student-to-counselor ratio ..

... counselors have more time to entertain and distract kids suffering from a bit of separation anxiety than the average kindergarten teacher.

Getting In The Swim

Swimming is a lifelong skill that not only provides hours of fun but also has a strong safety component.

All kids should know the basics of the sport, and many camps offer basic lessons along with instruction in water and pool safety.

Your little one will learn to be safer at the beach and pool while having a splash-tastic time beating the heat.

Break Time

Keeping a rambunctious kindergartner entertained all summer can be pretty exhausting, and camp keeps kids safely and happily entertained during the day.

Parents can tend to work, house projects or even a new sibling, and then feel relaxed, refreshed and ready to hear about the day’s adventures when their camper comes home sweaty and happy at the end of a busy day.

Souped-Up Social Skills

Packed with new friends and lots of ways to get to know them, camp is a great place for kindergartners to get used to meeting new kids and getting along with other youngsters.

Counselors are skilled at helping children share, play fair, take turns and treat others kindly, skills that will come in handy as they enter elementary school –and all through life.

Kids learn to be more empathetic and helpful, and the non-competitive activities give a real boost to self-confidence.

Camp Lets Kids Be Kids

Traditional day camp gives little ones one of the greatest gifts of all; it lets them spend the summer just being kids.

Camp is all about action and without television, computers and other techy distractions, your kindergartner can swing, jump, play, swim and just get outside and run wild before the structure and expectations of school take over.

At The End Of The Day

For many kids, one of the best things about day camp is that they get to return home at the end of a lively, frolicking day with lots of stories to tell their family.

They’ll delight in describing how their team finally won at Ga-Ga ball, the thrill of finally jumping into the deep end of the pool or the cool new friend they made at lunch.

Let your kids enjoy the experience of summer day camp at Maplewood Summer Day Camp.

Experienced staff will keep your child both safe and busy with arts and crafts, games, water sports, gymnastics and more.
