What is Physics?

Physics is the study of matter and energy and there interactions.

Physics is often considered an experimental science.

It also comes from Greek, meaning “nature”.

Technology

Physics has evolved over the years and most technology involves the concepts of physics.Manufacturing is all Physics-based technology.

CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, a particle accelerator

Universal Understanding

All branches of science contain physics and physics is involved in virtually everything.

An understanding of physics is required in understanding concepts of any other field of science.

Impressing Colleges

Physics is a challenging class and many colleges are impressed with students who take initiative to take the class.

SATs

Physics helps students require skills that may help preparing for and taking the SATs.

Physics also includes quite a bit of math skills which may also be useful.

Careers Involved in Physics

Engineers, the second largest profession in America, are applied physicists.

A knowledge of physics is a must for numeral forms of employment.

Thought Process

Physics is a skill that requires the right and left parts of the brain. Converting verbal information into pictures, and then into math is not easy problem solving.

Physics requires a higher level thought process.

The Arts

Part of physics is the study of sound, a must for any musician.

Physics is also the study of light, a must for visual art (paintings), photography, film, and stage lighting.

Many famous physicists were artist/musicians: Einstein, Feynman, Theremin, Moog, and Leonardo da Vinci.

Everyday Life

Physics broadens a person’s perspective in general.

A basic understanding of physics can lead to an everyday understanding of politics, history, and cultures (ex: global warming, energy sources, atomic bomb, industrial revolutions, etc.).
