“God gave…PASTORS AND TEACHERS, 12to equip (FIT-SET BROKEN BONES IN PLACE AND REALIGN) the saints for the work of SERVICE, for BUILDING up the body of Christ, 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to MATURE MAN to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,

15 RATHER, speaking the truth in LOVE, we are to GROW UP in every way INTO HIM who is the head, into Christ, 16from whom the whole body, joined and held together byevery joint with which it is equipped, WHEN each part is working properly, makes the body GROWso that it BUILDS ITSELF UP in LOVE.

14so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

Ephesians 4:12-16How are we sharpening?

R- Restored and repaired relationship with Whose they are so they can recover who they are

The Foundation of Adoption: “The deepest and strongest foundation of adoption is located not in the act of humans adopting humans, but in God adopting humans. And this act is not part of his ordinary providence in the world; it is at the heart of the gospel. Galatians 4:4-5 is as central a gospel statement as there is: “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”

R- Restored and repaired relationship with Whose they are so they can recover who they are

A restored relationship with God as Father who rescued them in and through Christ in the redemption of Christ to be His Adopted Children. Yet this is NOT an end in itself. We are adopted to Represent God’s Call and Resemble God’s Character to the next generation through making and multiplying disciples towards Servant Leadership. (Ephesians 1:3-6, Romans 8:11-15, Galatians 4:4-5)

Heb 5:13-14. (Heb 5:11-14, 12:11, Matt 5:3-12, 2 Tim 3:16, Ephesians 4:17-19, 20-24)

R- Responsibility and restraint in significant areas of their thinking, emotions and strategies

for life and long term relationships (Genesis 2:16-17, Titus 1:8, 1 Jn 2:16, 1 Cor 9:25, 2 Tim 1:7)

• A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. Proverbs 25:28

3His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly lifethrough our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory andgoodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great andprecious promises, so that through them you may participate inthe divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the worldcaused by evil desires.5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faithgoodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutualaffection, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasingmeasure, they will keep you from being ineffective andunproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9Butwhoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind 2 Peter 1:3-9

Page 35: Why serve in the Rural areas of KwaZulu Natal in … › fileadmin › user_upload › ...Word of Truth in order to develop a Biblical and practical hand up for Orphaned and Vulnerable

M- Meaning through maturity by relevantly interpreting suffering, pain, adversity, loss and trauma. (Heb 5:7-9, 12:11-15, Lam 3:26-28, 1 Pet 4:19, 1 Peter 5:10)

• As God’s Adopted sons and daughters the realities of abandonment, pain, suffering, loss, trauma and adversity do not need to define who they are. They can develop M.A.T.U.R.I.T.Y. using 8 strategies to develop meaning in and through understanding pain, adversity, suffering and trials.
