Why Miller?

We’ve been building homes since 1934, that’s three generations of experience. We’ve learned a lot about people and that’s made a big difference to what we do and how we do it.

We’re enormously proud of the homes we build, combining traditional craftsmanship with new ideas like low carbon technologies. The big difference is that we don’t stop caring once we’ve finished the building, or when we’ve sold the house, or even once you’ve moved in. We’re there when you need us, until you’re settled, satisfied and inviting your friends round.

A new home. The start of a whole new chapter for you and your family. And for us, the part of our job where bricks and mortar becomes a place filled with activity and dreams and fun and love. We put a huge amount of care into the houses we build, but the story’s not finished until we match them up with the right people. So, once you’ve chosen a Miller home, we’ll do everything we can to make the rest of the process easy, even enjoyable. From the moment you make your decision until you’ve settled happily in, we’ll be there to help.

Austen Fields 01

Surrounded by miles of beautiful countryside, with the South Downs National Park stretching away to the east, Austen Fields is a peaceful new neighbourhood of modern, energy efficient two, three and four bedroom homes within a few minutes’ walk of the picturesque centre of Medstead, a village of immense charm. With its strong sense of place, this small and prestigious development presents a rare opportunity to put down roots in a mature, welcoming community.

Welcome to Austen Fields

We care about youEvery year, we help thousands of homebuyers to make the move. We understand what matters to you. And that’s what matters to us. You can be sure we’ll do everything we can to make your homebuying experience stress-free and as enjoyable as possible.

Living in Medstead

Quality of life is about the details of everyday living. From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you’re moving to will support you and your family, as well as being a pleasant place to live. So here’s some useful information about the area around Austen Fields.

Page 9: Why Miller? We ve been building homes since 1934,

Village LifeMedstead has a very lively community life, with the area’s many riding stables bringing an equestrian feel to the area. Local activities range from Scouts, Cubs and children’s drama to gardening and model car racing. There are badminton, tennis and bowls clubs, and the village team plays cricket in the Hampshire League. The amateur Medstead Players present two shows in the village hall most years, and a fête is held on the village green each July. The local pub, the Castle of Comfort, is a child-friendly inn with a family garden. Jane Austen, after whom the development is named, lived just three and a half miles away in Chawton, where her house is today a museum of worldwide importance.

TransportFrom Alton railway station, just over five miles away, trains leave for Farnham, Woking and London approximately every half hour. The journey to London Waterloo takes just over an hour. Local bus services run to Winchester and Alton, from where there are connections to Farnham and Guildford. Junction 7 of the M3 is less than 11 miles from the development, and the M25 London Orbital Motorway is just 40 minutes’ drive away.

The Watercress LineAusten Fields is just yards away from the route of the Watercress Line, a popular heritage steam railway that runs from Alton to Alresford, adding some spectacular colour to the local landscape. In addition to their normal services, which stop at Medstead station, the line carries ‘Specials’ including Santa and Real Ale trains.

Around half a mile away on Winchester Road there is a pharmacy, a Tesco Express, an off-licence and, a little further on, a Co-op food store. Medstead village has a grocer and newsagent, and a hardware store that incorporates the village post office. There is a good mixture of supermarkets, high street stores and independent traders in Alton, five miles away, and an even wider choice in Winchester, 13 miles to the east.

Recycling FacilitiesThere are facilities for recycling glass at both Medstead Village Hall and in the car park behind the shops in Winchester Road, where there are also receptacles for textiles.

Education & HealthMedstead C of E Primary shares a site with a community- run nursery, and there is additional nursery provision at St Lucy’s Preschool in Medstead Manor, managed by the Convent of St Lucy. Medstead is in the catchment area for Amery Hill Secondary in Alton, an Academy school that was awarded Leading Edge status in 2010. The Watercress Medical Group, with six GPs and full nursing and dispensary support, is just a few minutes’ walk from the development, and there is a choice of dentists in Alton.
