Web directory of UK rental locations The BVRLA homepage includes a prominent link to an online directory of BVRLA members offering car and van rental services.

Free database of high-risk renters: RISC Developed specifically for the rental industry, the BVRLA’s RISC Online ‘problem renter’ database contains the names of over 8,000 individuals and companies. The system enables rental companies to legitimately share risk information with other BVRLA members in order to gather

information about prospective renters. Some of the things RISC can help protect your business against include:

❱ Customer fraud ❱ Theft ❱ Unauthorised extensions ❱ Late payments ❱ Abusive behaviour

Using RISC can make your business less susceptible to vehicle theft and unauthorised extensions. This could improve your risk assessment process, which will help with your insurance premiums, especially being a BVRLA Quality Assured business.

Business opportunitiesBeing a BVRLA Quality Assured rental company operating under a code of conduct that is recognised by the Office of Fair Trading will allow you to accept referrals from other members.

businesses and consumers, operating a fleet of around275,000 vehicles.

The association regulates the industry through a series of

quality assurance inspections and a mandatory code ofconduct. If you see the BVRLA logo displayed in a rental

branch or on a leaflet or website, it should provide aguarantee that you will receive the highest levels of service.

Should you have a complaint against one of our members

that you are unable to resolve with them, the BVRLA runs a

Rental agreementThe BVRLA industry standard rental agreement is approved by the Office of Fair Trading and bears the Plain English Campaign’s Crystal Mark. There is a four-part form available for purchase or members can simply download the terms and conditions to ensure their primary legal trading document is up to date and legally compliant.

A specially drawn up indemnity form is available to BVRLA members who transact business involving the customer’s own insurance.

Vehicles travelling abroadDrivers taking vehicles from the UK to other EU member states must by law carry the V5C registration document. An exception is made for vehicles on hire, with drivers carrying a Vehicle on Hire Certificate (VE103) instead, verifying that they have permission to be in possession of the vehicle. The VE103 is the only legal substitute for a V5C and the BVRLA can supply these forms to members for sale to the renter.

Why risk your vehicle being impounded abroad with all the associated problems of repatriating the vehicle and an unhappy renter?

Legal adviceOur legal and policy department provides more than 60 fact sheets on critical issues, such as child seats and continuous insurance enforcement. There are three people operating our legal helpline, available to advise on any motoring or rental problem you have encountered.

To find out more about the benefits of BVRLA membership, call our membership administrator June Dyer or head of membership David Hanson – or visit our website: www.bvrla.co.uk
