– Will feed in to summary session and manifesto session

• Manifesto session– What are the new approaches, tools and strategies that can be

taken on?– What are the resistances/barriers to adopting/developing these

practices?– What needs to happen to address these issues?

• The Chew Table– Opportunity to explore new ways, to talk, discuss and find out

• Showcases– Innovative teachers & students sharing stories of practice

End-user innovation

… a source of innovation, only now becoming widely recognized, is end-user innovation. This is where an agent (person or company) develops an innovation for their own (personal or in-house) use because existing

products do not meet their needs

“end-user innovation [is], by far, the most important and critical”

Eric Von Hippell Sources of Innovation

Expertise and innovation•Innovation takes place through complex process that link many different actors together

•The boundaries of organisations and industries are sites for innovation

•Problems and needs of users can be met with the potential solutions in creative processes

• Dynamic, shifting– Social context– Education context – Economic context– Technological context

"The ubiquitous presence and utility of ICT in modern life are having a significant impact on the way we live, and even on the notion of an educated person. It has led to the concept of the knowledge society - sometimes also called the learning society or information society. There is a widespread awareness that these developments have profound implications for education, and that schools must change, but as yet little detailed consideration of the extent of the change needed and the advantages that ICT can bring. The growth of the knowledge society and the pervasiveness of the technology represent a major challenge and a major opportunity for education."

Use a side of the cube – label it “1”

What are you addressing/aiming to solve?

•Responding to Every Child Matters?

•Responding to the Personalisation agenda?

•Taking advantage of the expertise of parents and local community?

•Help 1 child recognised their learning outside school to build on it in school?

Innovation is driven by people and often happens at the boundaries between different disciplines

Innovation is a process, it's confusing to think of it as a thing

If you want to learn about innovation, don't pick up a book with innovation in the title, read autobiographies

The quickest way to innovate is to bring innovative people into your organisation

Page 25: Why Don't You: Innovations Cube

By definition, life is change and change is constant. Innovation is about being the change rather than facing the change. Change is human nature, it is at the core of every person, without it we experience stagnation and complacency. To empower people to be innovative is a collective responsibility. Innovation and education should go hand in hand – it is the lifeblood of our children and the future of our world

Teachers TV is innovative in two ways – it’s the largest-ever project to record and disseminate the teaching and learning in a nation’s schools, and all its programmes (approaching 2000 of them) are available for viewing on its website (www.teachers.tv), as well as on-air on digital satellite and cable TV. The marriage of high-quality television with advanced broadband delivery on this scale is, we believe, unique in the field of television, as well as in the field of education.

Innovation is the key criteria in deciding what programmes to commission and what new media projects to develop.  The innovation may be the idea, the technology, the format or the use of new talent - and often it means creating new partnerships to make new things happen.

We know we're there to stimulate debate not provide definitive answers - we're creating content to help people make up their own minds about an increasingly complex world.

For us and our students, innovation is a way of thinking. We encourage intuitive thought, without fear of risk, free and able to grasp what are we trying to achieve, and how best can we make it happen. Innovation is creation.
