WHY ATTEND THE YOUTH INVOLVEMENT CONFERENCE? Aend a unique all-city youth conference planned by and for teens! Aend excing workshops designed for you – from tech talk to pung your ideas to work! Share your ideas on how to make your community a beer place for young people! This is an excused pre-arranged absence for Bellevue public schools. Students that aend will earn six community service hours! It’s FREE! (Lunch provided as well)—Not a bad deal to learn, play, and make a difference! 2018 YIC WORKSHOP TOPICS AND DESCRIPTIONS Intenonal Communicaon for Building Bridges – k4p.org: Join Kids4Peace for a workshop that will help to deepen your communicaon skills and empower you to use these skills to build bridges across backgrounds and experiences. Explore new ways to engage in building empathy and cultural understanding in every community you are a part of, and leave empowered to intenonally communicate with everyone you encounter. Workshop will include skill building exercises and opportunies to pracce skills in a fun and safe seng. Social Jusce – Movement of Advocacy for Youth (Youth led-workshop): Hear from passionate youth about issues affecng our world today ranging from educaon to immigraon topics. Explore ways how you can be part of social change and learn how young people are making a difference in our community. Show Me The Money! – Wells Fargo: Planning for the future means planning today. Learn personal finance including how to budget your money, respon- sible spending, saving, and planning for the future. Wells Fargo bank works to educate community members and young people on basic finance. Breaking Free! (Youth-led workshop) – Life as a teenager can feel easily subjecve to the views of your peers. Come join a youth-led session discuss- ing issues such as stress and insecuries. This workshop is interacve with team building exercises and games to help you discover who you are and what makes you special. College Life 101 (Panel Discussion) – – Curious about life aſter high school? Come hear from recent high school graduates, college students, and working young professionals as they share their personal experiences from post high school life, college courses, and career pathway opportunies. This is an inter- acve format with brief panel presentaons and Q & A format moderated by Bellevue Youth Council members. Recommended for High School students. Think Beyond Green (Youth-led workshop) WE are the soluon we’ve been waing for. Taking care of our environment is the keystone to a sustainable, thriving community. Learn how to save our planet from the dangerous impacts of global warming. In this interacve workshop, you will learn the science of global warming and how all of our daily choices make a difference towards it, either posive or negave. The workshop will include a presentaon about the contribuon of cizens to climate change in Bellevue/Seale, a personal carbon footprint simulaon exercise, group discussion, and a call to acon.You will have the opportunity to join acon teams, bring ideas to your school, and volunteer for environment restoraon work pares. Our generaon will have to deal with the effects of climate change. Learn, advocate, and make goals. Be the change you want to see. High School Life 101 (Panel Discussion) – From class schedule, AP courses, school dances, and social life, this workshop will cover all your curiosies’ about high school life! Come hear their personal stories and advice from current high school students that will help you prepare for the next chapter of your second- ary educaon adventure. This is an interacve format with brief panel pre- sentaons and Q & A format moderated by Bellevue Youth Council members. Recommended for Middle School students. Be the Change! – (Community Service Panel Discussion) – Looking for op- portunies to get involve? Make a difference! Come learn about community service opportunies and see what organizaons are doing to help families and children in our area and around the world. This is an interacve format with brief panel presentaons and Q & A format moderated by Bellevue Youth Council members. CERT Lite Emergency & Disaster Preparedness – Are you prepared? – Are you prepared? Do you have a plan in case of disaster or emergency? Plan for the unexpected by learning some valuable informaon and skills necessary when it happens as part of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. This workshop will be both informaonal and interacve including pung out a fire with a fire exnguisher using a simulator! City of Bellevue Fire Department Office of Emergency Management will be hosng the workshop. Microsoſt Tech Talk – Learn new tools that help students create, plan, manage, and share ideas in our digital world. The Bellevue Microsoſt store will share new and excing technology that’s emerging and available now for your use. BELLEVUE YOUTH LINK PROGRAM Bellevue Youth Link is a youth leadership, development and community service pro- gram in the City of Bellevue, Parks & Community Services Department that works in partnership with the Bellevue School District. Founded in 1990, BellevueYouth Link gives young people an acve voice in the community through leadership roles and opportunies to make a difference! Bellevue Youth Link consists of the Youth Link Board, Bellevue Youth Council, and various Acon Teams. The Youth Link Board advises the Bellevue City Council, Bel- levue School Board and City Manager on youth issues and programs affecng young people and serves as a voice for the youth community to elected and public officials. The Bellevue Youth Council meets twice a month to plan various community service projects every month and special events throughout the year. The Acon Teams are the smaller commiees that focuses on fulfilling the goals and agenda as idenfied during the all-city biennial Youth Involvement Conference. TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING AT MEYDENBAUER CENTERParkingislimitedatMeydenbauerCenterandguestsareresponsibleforparkingfee.Parkingforthedaywillbe$10percaratMeydenbauerCenter.Carpoolsareencouragedforstudentsandadultsplanningtodrive.Schoolandcharterbuseswillhaveadesignateddropoffandpickuplocation.However,therewillbenoparkingonsiteforschoolandcharterbuses.Please do not park at Bellevue City Hall.
