    WHOSE CHILD IS THIS?

"Whose child is this?" I asked one daySeeing a little one out at play

"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile"Mine to keep a little while

To bathe his hands and comb his hairTo tell him what he is to wear

To prepare him that he may always be goodAnd each day do the things he should"

"Whose child is this?" I asked again

As the door opened and someone came in"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile"Mine, to keep just for a little while

To teach him how to be gentle and kindTo train and direct his dear little mind

To help him live by every ruleAnd get the best he can from school"

"Whose child is this?" I ask once moreJust as the little one entered the door

"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled

And each took the hand of the little child"Ours to love and train togetherOurs this blessed task forever."

Here's to the Kids that are Different

    Author Unknown

Here's to the kids that are different,

The kids that don't always get A's.

    The kids that have ears,

twice as big as their peers,Or have noses that go on for days.

Here's to the kids that are different,

The kids that are just out of step.

    The kids they all tease,

Who have cuts on their knees,

And whose sneakers are constantly wet.

Here's to the kids that are different,

The kids they call crazy and dumb.

The kids who aren't cute and don't give a hoot,

Who dance to a different drum.

Here's to the kids who are different,

    For when they are grown,

    As history has shown,

It's their difference that makes them unique.

    Unity

    By Ray A. Lingenfelter

    I dreamed I stood in a studio

    And watched two sculptors there,

The clay they used was a young childs mind

And they fashioned it with care.

    One was a teacher:

    the tools she used were books and music and art;

    One was a parent

With a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done,

They were proud of what they had wrought.

For the things they had worked into the child

Could never be sold or bought!

And each agreed she would have failed

    if she had worked alone.

For behind the parent stood the school, and behind the teacher stood the home!

Children Learn What They LiveDorothy Law Nolte, Ph. D.

    If children live with hostility,

    they learn to fight.

If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy.

    If children live with tolerance,

    they learn to be patient.

    If children live with encouragement,

    they learn confidence.

    If children live with praise,

    they learn to appreciate.

    If children live with fairness,

    they learn justice.

    If children live with security,

    they learn faith.

    If children live with approval,

    they learn to like themselves.

If children live with acceptance, and friendship,

they learn to find love in the world.

    I Believe

    Author Unknown

I believe in children's laughter, the sweetest perfume of a newborn baby's skin

and that every child is entitled to happiness, decent housing, health care,

proper nutrition and a good education.

I believe that our schools should be places of discovery and growth, not of

danger, that teachers should be paid more than lawyers and that parentingshould be a required course in every high school.

I believe that "quality time" is a phony notion that cannot substitute for

substantial time spent with our children.

I believe that baseball and other children's games can be magical and should

be wrestled from screaming competitive coaches and returned to play.

I believe that childhood should be a time of sand castles and celebration andthat the defense of innocence is as important as the defense of our borders.

And I believe that our most urgent mission should be putting the needs of our

    children first.

    Every Sunrise

Every sunrise is a present, a gift from God above,

Gift-wrapped with scarlet ribbons and tied with bows of love.

Each is a new beginning, a time to start anew,

While all the stars are sleeping, and the rose is fresh with dew.

Each day's a new creation, too lovely to ignore,And we may not find a blessing, just outside our door.

We cannot keep the past, like fireflies in a jar,

Nor journey to the future by wishing on a star.

Every sunrise is a blessing, a gift for just today,

Rejoice, my friend, embrace it before it fades away!

you make my favorite cake for me and I

learned that little things can be the

    special things in life.

    When you thought I wasn't looking, I

heard you say a prayer, and I knewthere is a God I could always talk to and

I learned to trust in God.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw

you make a meal and take it to a friend

who was sick, and I learned that we all

have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw

you give of your time and money to help

people who had nothing and I learned that

those who have something should give to

    those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt

you kiss me good night and I felt loved

    and safe.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I sawyou take care of our house and everyone

    of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw

how you handled your responsibilities, even

when you didn't feel good and I learned

that I would have to be responsible when

    I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw

tears come from your eyes and I learned

that sometimes things hurt, but its all

    LITTLE CHILDREN

Little children are a treasureTheir worth you can not measure

In terms of money or gold.Their voices are the melody

That vibrates deep inside of meWorth their weight, a thousand fold.

    Their eyes so brightly shining

They are the silver liningThat brightens up my day.I couldn't live without themMore priceless then any gem

    My loneliness they chase away....

    Our Children

I sit and wander, where time goes

we try our best to teach them right,

as times change and our children grow,

We love them with all our might.

It's not easy to raise a child

at times, we don't know what to dowe weren't given any instructions

    It's a challenge that's all new.

    Our children, are our lives

    and our most important goal,

to love and to guide them

and to place them in life's role.

    Our children are our future

    and time will only tell

the job we've done as parents

and if we've done it well....

    Children

Children are like kites, you spend a lifetime

trying to get them off the ground. you runwith them until you are both breathless.

When they crash you add a longer tail. They

hit a rooftop you pick them up and comfort

them. You watched them get picked up by the

wind. You assure them that they will someday

fly. Finally they are airborn. They need more

string and you keep letting it out, with each

twist of the ball of twine. There is a

sadness that goes with the joy. As the kite

becomes more distant you somehow know thatthe lifeline that held you together will

snap, to soar as it was meant to

    soar......free and alone.

    A BUTTERFLY IN THE WIND

    A child is...

    A butterfly in the wind,

    Some can fly higher than others;

but each one flies the best it can.

Why compare one against the other?

    Each one is different!

    Each one is special!

    Each one is beautiful!

    the masterpiece

    for life fulfilled...

You are my child. Now with all things

    CHILDREN'S EYES

What kind of world is it my friend that little children see?

I wonder if they see God first

    because they just believe?

Do they see strength in caring eyes

who watch them as they play --

or maybe love through gentle hands

that guide them on their way?

Do you think they dream of future times

when they would be a king --

or just enjoy their present lifewhile with their friends they sing?

Do they see the acts of kindness

done for people who are poor?

Is the very best in everyone

    what they are looking for?

And when the day is over,

as they close their eyes to sleep,

do they look forward to tomorrow

    with its promises to keep?

If this is what the children see,

then it should be no surprise,

the world would be a better place

if we all had children's eyes.

    A CHILD'S HEART

A child's heart is full of love

    Bearing all the burden

Holding on to every promiseEven the uncertain..

A child's tears happy or sad

    Are real from within

The cry's come from their souls

    Brought on by confusion..

A child thinks of only goodNo matter what has happened

They love their mom and dad

But their souls will never mend..

Hold a child oh so close

    Don't ever let them go

A gift from the all mighty

    Like the first fallen snow..

    Unconditional love

Is all that they say and more

    A CHILD'S LOVE

A child's love is like a whisper, given in little ways we do not hear.

But if you listen closely it will be very clear.

They often do not say it loud, but in how they come to you...

Daddy, will you play with me? Mommy, tie my shoe?

The many ways they tell you, changes as they grow.

Dad, I made the team today! Mom, I've Got to go!

Pop, I need some money, You see there's...this girl at school.

Mama, I met a boy today and Wow, he's so cool!

Dad, I've got something to tell you... I think she is the one!

Mom, he asked me to marry him. Would you love him as your son?

    I am the child,

NINETEEN "SOMETHINGS" TO SAY TO CHILDREN

I love you! There is nothing that will make me stop loving you. Nothing you

could do or say or think will ever change that.

    1.

You are amazing! I look at you with wonder! Not just at what you can do, but

who you are. There is no one like you. No one!

    2.

It's all right to cry. People cry for all kinds of reasons: when they are hurt,

sad, glad, or worried; when they are angry, afraid, or lonely. Big people cry

    too. I do.

    3.

You've made a mistake. That was wrong. People make mistakes. I do. Is it4.

something we can fix? What can we do? It's all over. You can start fresh. I

know you are sorry. I forgive you.

You did the right thing. That was scary or hard. Even though it wasn't easy,

you did it. I am proud of you; you should be too.

    5.

I'm sorry. Forgive me. I made a mistake.

    6.

You can change your mind. It's good to decide, but it is also fine to change.

    7.

What a great idea! You were really thinking! How did you come up with that?

Tell me more. Your mind is clever!

    8.

That was kind. You did something helpful and thoughtful for that person.

That must make you feel good inside. Thank you!

    9.

I have a surprise for you. It's not your birthday. It's for no reason at all. Just

a surprise, a little one, but a surprise.

    10.

I can wait. We have time. You don't have to hurry this time.

    11.

What would you like to do? It's your turn to pick. You have great ideas. It's

important to follow your special interests.

    12.

Tell me about it. I'd like to hear more. And then what happened? I'll listen.

    will you remind me?

    15.

I missed you. I think about you when we are not together!

    16.

Just try. A little bit. One taste, one step. You might like it. Let's see. I'll help

you if you need it. I think you can do it.

    17.

I'll help you. I heard you call me, here I am. How can I help you? If we both

work together, we can get this done. I know you can do it by yourself, but I'm

glad to help since you asked.

    18.

If I Had My Child to Raise Over Again

If I had my child to raise all over again,I'd finger-paint more, and point the fingers less.I would do less correcting and more connecting.

I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.I would care to know less and know to care more.

I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.
