This is a FREE service every Tuesday. The bus will leave Schubert at 10 am and return at 12 noon. This will give seniors time to shop for groceries, visit other stores or take time to have a coffee! It can be a tough time of year for those who live alone on a low income or without family near-by. So NexusBC is reaching out to share a bit of seasonal cheer. We also have a 'Donate' button on our website where folk can donate to the Making Spirits Bright Campaign for gift cards. Gift cards from stores that are of most use to seniors in need include the Wholesale Club, Safeway and Walmart, and the activation receipt should be enclosed. This year's program runs from November 1 – December 20. The Making Spirits Bright campaign aims to let seniors in Vernon know they are cared for and appreciated during the holiday season by giving them a gift card for items that they want and need. Members of the community can purchase a gift card for any amount from a local store that provides the basic necessities (food, toiletries and clothing), and bring it to the NexusBC office along with a cheerful card. www.nexusbc.ca Working To Make Spirits Brighter For Seniors At Christmas HALINA ACTIVITY CENTRE HALINA ACTIVITY CENTRE CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON Wednesday, December 11th at 11:30 am Wednesday, December 11th at 11:30 am Entertainment, Door Prizes, Raffles, Buffet Entertainment, Door Prizes, Raffles, Buffet Tickets in advance Only $15.00 Tickets in advance Only $15.00 Reserve your table of 8 by calling Reserve your table of 8 by calling the office at 250 542 2877 the office at 250 542 2877 or email [email protected] or email [email protected] Recreation Centre Auditorium Recreation Centre Auditorium 3310 37th Ave, Vernon 250.542.2877 3310 37th Ave, Vernon 250.542.2877 HALINA ACTIVITY CENTRE CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON Wednesday, December 11th at 11:30 am Entertainment, Door Prizes, Raffles, Buffet Tickets in advance Only $15.00 Reserve your table of 8 by calling the office at 250 542 2877 or email [email protected] Recreation Centre Auditorium 3310 37th Ave, Vernon 250.542.2877 SCHUBERT CENTRE DECEMBER FUN SCHUBERT CENTRE DECEMBER FUN EVERYONE WELCOME! Well, our first attempt at addressing the issue of transportation for seniors ran into some roadblocks. But we are not a group who gives up (call us persistent!). So we're establishing another Transportation Action Team to tackle this pervasive problem. Transportation is a HUGE issue for many seniors, and we will give it another shot. We'll keep you in the know with any progress.

More Great News – this pass is now available! It is intended for low income seniors who live in the Greater Vernon area to encourage their access to local recreation, cultural and creative opportunities. It has benefits from twelve local agencies and includes vouchers for free coffee/snack or lunch at our seniors' centres, $5 tickets to Vernon Vipers Games, a family pass to the Science Centre, reduced rates to Performing Arts Spotlight shows and lots more! The pass is FREE to eligible seniors and can be obtained at the Greater Vernon Museum. Bring some ID and take advantage of this great opportunity.

Greater Vernon Multi-Agency Seniors Pass for Seniors – GV-MAPS

Information/Referral/AdvocacyThe team has been active in putting together a Senior's Resource Guide. The guide provides seniors and those who care about them with people to call, places to go and websites to check out for guidance about a multitude of issues including health and wellness, housing, nutrition and recreation. These agencies are meant to be a first point of contact. If they can't help you directly, they will know who can. Great news! A first version has been printed and is available to pick up at NexusBC. This action team is also working on a Seniors Information Fair to take place in the late spring, as well as a speaker series for seniors' service providers. Stay tuned!
